I don't have a way with words as some do, But I'll try.
My friend and his puppy Nettie were going for a walk in the bush, (we live in Africa you see) when suddenly this big black dog jumped out at them, leaping for my friend. He was still quite young, and it must have been terrifying. But Nettie attacked the dog and actually drove it away. Nettie was a Heaven-sent dog, and she was loyal till the end. She died of old age at the beginning of this year, after protecting them for a long time, and we were all very sad when she had to go.
A story about the same family, but this time I come in too.
Their goat had had a baby, and it was only about a day old. I went to sleep over at their house, and that afternoon we went out to a party. We stayed there until it got dark, and then returned. The first thing we did was run to the Goat Pen. We found the young one lying on his side in the cold, his mother standing away to one side, her back to him. We got a bottle of warm milk and hand fed him, and thought he sucked at the bottle, he didn't do anything but lie on the ground, eyes half closed. I covered it with my thick Jersey(Sweater i think some people call it), and we all huddled close to keep it warm in the chill air. TJ(the one who walked with Nettie)(~TJ~ on cs) ran to get more milk, and Pipsie(*Pipsie* on cs) and I sat silently with the goat, both praying to God that he didn't take it, not yet. Our only light was that of a small torch, and we sat and waited for TJ. The mother goat came and sniffed it, snorted softly, and walked away. She wouldn't accept it again.
We named the young goat Champion, for keeping at the bottle and struggling to hold onto life, and Survivor, in optimism that he would make the next day. We sat with him until late when the moon was high in the sky, and then it was getting so cold we thought he wouldn't make it outside. Zuko, Their mother, came with a box, and we lifted the little goat into it gently. While we were carrying the box, it stopped breathing. "No... no...." TJ whispered, and I prayed with all my heart, "Please God, Don't take it yet. For Pipsie's Sake....." For she bonds with an animal so quickly, and this was her goat's baby. Survivor started breathing again, and we hurried into the warmth of the house. Placing the box in the kitchen, we got Hot Water Bottles, and blankets, and covered it up. It drank some more milk, but it wasn't sucking hungrily. It just seemed to be holding onto life, but not wanting it anymore. Pipsie and I sat by it while Soffie(their little sister)(Sophia

Lassie is a Unique dog. She showed me the true love of a mother for children, even if they are not her own. She is an amazing companion to all, and she took in young Survivor when his mother abandoned him. TJ, Pipsie, and Soffie have the most loving, loyal, trustful companion. We all love her, and though she is "just" a dog, She will always love us.
