I edited the descriptions a little to make the pattern rule thing a bit more easy to understand.
Basically, if you want to use a pattern that's on an existing animal species-- a bird, a snake, a cheetah, a dog, you name it-- GO AHEAD! >:D

Manmade patterns are really the only things that should be avoided in that department. xD
