That was my first thought also, except my story was going to go a little something along the lines of, the doe is a kelpie-like water spirit that lures men to thier deaths with "why don't you join me by the Loch for a game of chance" *cue sultry stare*

Ah well, im fairly sure i wont have time to write something since i always take an incredibly long time >.<

The night was cold, bitter cold. Wind blew heavy from the northern mountains, sending the small whisper of freeze with every breath they heaved. It had snowed, she thought. Never in all my life has it snowed. The snow was deep, crunching under hoof with each step as the spackled doe wandered her once familiar home. But this home was something new and unknown, the trees had all grown dark and sinister, raising from the glittering white to meld with the inky sky, shadows running to the ends of vision. Just keep moving, you'll find the hollow she thought. One more step, just one more as she plunged another leg into the biting cold that nearly reached her knees. She and her small family had been in the the valley to the south when the chill had begun to creep in. There was something ominous about it, the others had felt it too. They had stayed one more night in the valley before deciding to return home where there had never been chill. Her mother, her sister and herself had set out early when the dew still clung to the tender shoots in the lowlands. Together they had wandered for what had felt like forever, until the winds had started their cruel games. At first it was only the chill wind, it seemed to whisper so softly that only she could hear, you won't find it here. But surely she was hearing things, the wind couldn't really whisper.

That's when the first flake had fallen. It was wonderful at first, exciting and new as the frozen droplets had landed softly on the ground and slowly coated everything in a thin, white powder. She and her sister had been thrilled, they had run through it and hopped about dancing in it, even their mother had given a little laugh. This happy moment gave way to misery as time wore on. Soon the playful powder had fallen so heavily it covered their hooves, numbing the ends of their legs, the wind blowing sharper and biting at their ears as though fanged beasts had latched on. Just keep going, said the does' mother, keep walking and we'll make it to the hollow. They were tired and the sky was darkening, there was no shelter from the wind, no rest for their weary bones and no peace for their fearful minds. All night they had trekked, surely they would be there soon, how long could they go on? The does stumbled onward as fatigue and cold settled in but there was no rest to be had. A rumbling shook the earth as a low growl seemed to shake the trees. This was a dangerous place, the does fled, terror fueling their aching limbs as a wall of ice and snow came bearing down upon them. The wind laughed just above the sounds of the crashing trees and the roaring wave as all three hearts hammered in the creatures' delicate ears. There were shouts to be heard just above the pressing din but all she could hear was the laughter, the promise of death and darkness eternal. She was getting too far from the others. A root, hidden by the previously fallen snow became her downfall. There was a rush and then. . . nothing.

Cold. . . everything. Is cold. She thought, her world still dark and numb. But that was her hope, she could feel the cold and the numbness. She was alive. The snow had covered her but since she was still breathing, her warm breath had melted the space around her head, it felt almost warm and comforting. I'm alive, she thought as exhaustion overtook her once again and she fell into darkness.

She awoke again sometime later, the cavern her breath had created was now larger allowing her to wiggle her limbs a bit. Where was she? With trembling effort she began to knock snow off the roof of her makeshift shelter. Pawing at the ceiling with both hooves, desperate to see the light of the outside world. The trodden snow fell in on her head, stinging her face and nose but she hardly noticed. She needed to get out, find her mother and her sister and get to the hollow. With one last frustrated strike a renewed chill entered the snow cave and with it a bright light. The climb out was difficult, the snow gave way so easily and her delicate hooves did naught but sink into the mass time and again. She was stubborn though, resolve forced her onward along with the drive of survival. She had survived the snowfall and she'd be damned if this non moving snow could hold her. With a grunt and gritted teeth she pulled herself out of the hole and onto more solidly frozen snow. Huffing and panting, her warm breath leaving puffs in the air she stood and looked down at her progress. The doe allowed herself a triumphant snort before looking up to survey her surroundings. Will and triumph melted as she tried to take in the sight. The base of every tree not uprooted was covered in snow, she couldn't recognize anything.

"Mother?" She called but there was no reply. No sound at all but for the gentle whisper of the wind. Her ears dropped along with her heart. What do I do? What would mother do? What if they didn't make it? What if I don't see them again? The questions made her head spin as she was overwhelmed by the dismal possibility. No, she thought. They'll be ok, I made it ok, so will they. They'll go to the hollow

((We have to write stories for the deer that is put up for adoption. It's easier for paper than having people fight over a bunch of deer.Sorry for mini-modding!))

i think i should have her because i've always wanted one of these awsome deer but they are a lot and i dont have enough or i'd give extra rares just to get one.
STORY TIIIME *A*:I walked trough an eerie forest. This forest gave me a chill down my spine.I saw a glow in the bushes and heard a splash. As i peered through the bush i saw a koi fish leaping through the water.it leaped onto the river bank and in mid air it magicly transformed into a beautiful doe.I eyes gleamed with amazment and joy from this glorious sight. She spotted e and ran off.carrying a great grace and beauty as if she was streaming through air.I instistied on going to find her but the next step i took.I fell into a ditch.I broke my arm and coukldnt get out. i was in an agonizing pain.soon came the beautiful doe she looked down at me. Note: Even though this is obviously a koi deer, I went with a different angle to the markings because my imagination ran away with me when I first saw her. I hope this makes sense.

The tracks in the rock of the mountain were said to be made by a doe painting the cliffside. Her delicate hooves sank down into the ground, it was told, and in the softened stone of the ancient cliffside she carved their people. And it was true. Under the petroglyphs of ancient deer running, bucking, mating, fighting, there were indentations in the rocky ground, almost in the shape of graceful hooves.

Done by a doe that adorned herself with ochre and bone char, a streak across her brow, this ancestor lived lifetimes ago, longer than a deer could count back. Some believed she was only a legend, and others that she truly lived. There were some that followed her ways, handed down through word of mouth, and lived as aesthetics, adorning themselves as it was said she did and making their own carvings, obsessed with their people and beauty.

But none dared mark the same cliffside, the same mountain, as the ancient doe, and none came close in the beauty and skill of their carvings.

And so the deer lived, running, bucking, mating, fighting like deer always have, for many, many generations after the ancient doe.

And the black mountain, the mountain of the cliffs of the carvings, having slumbered for so long, began to awake with the smallest of signals. A tremor here one day, a tremor there several later. Nothing that deer fleet of foot would notice, always on the move and preoccupied with living.

As the black ash began to fall, bit by bit until it grew to be too heavy to bear, panic struck the deer, scattering them, while the aesthetics gathered and walked toward the cliffside. And there, white coat gleaming under fallen ash, was the doe of ochre and bone char, leaving tracks in the black, softened ground and carving their people into the cliff.
