Background/History [of pet]:
They that are born on Halloween shall see more than other folk - Saying of unknown origin
One Dark, Cold Night...
It was on Halloween Night that Oblivion was born. It was midnight and there were no stars twinkling in the sky. Only the full moon shone. The trees of the forest were bare and leafless. The wind howled eerily through the branches. He was the youngest of a litter of thirteen. He was born completely black, whereas his siblings were black with white markings. The wolves in his pack thought this was a terrible omen and wanted him out, but he was too young. His mother sighed and took care of her pups. For now, he was treated no differently than any other pup.
As Oblivion was growing up, he was treated less and less fairly, and regularly got left out of everything. He was even last to eat, and even then, he only got scraps and morsels. One day, the pack had a meeting and decided to drive him out. Even his mother and father (the alpha male) wanted him out. That night, they drove him out, which was rather easy to do, with his condition (weak and thin - you could see his ribs). He ran off, whimpering and yelping as the pack chased him out of their territory.
He quickly got out of it and whined. "Why me?" he asked himself and slowly walked away with his head hung low in sadness. He walked for days on end and finally collapsed near Sleepy Hollow's graveyard. He closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep. He slept for hours. When he woke up, he looked around and found that he was in a peculiar place. It was warm and comfortable. He looked in front of him and there was a small pile of meat. He crawled towards it and ate it, savoring the flavour and letting it dance on his tongue as the juices oozed into his mouth.
For about a month, he stayed in that home, mostly being left alone apart from being fed and watered. The person who looked after him talked to the villagers about him and named the wolf Oblivion. He was then set free, back into the wild. Once he was set free, Oblivion wandered back to the graveyard and made it his home. He felt more comfortable than the house he lived in for the past month.
He was happy and the people regarded Oblivion as their protector. But another wolf came into the village and started frightening people. Oblivion went down to the village to see what the trouble was and was faced with a huge brown snarling wolf. The wolf's mouth was dripping with fresh blood, and just behind it was a dead villager - a young male in his early 20's. It was the person that had saved him from death. Oblivion snarled and bared his sharp white fangs and launched himself at the wolf intruder. He and the wolf fought for ten minutes. Suddenly, because of his rage and anger, Oblivion's paws burst into bright orange flames and killed the wolf in seconds. Luckily, he'd only got away with a scratch down his left eye. From then on, he was blind in that eye. He slunk away back to the graveyard to rest and recover, and to mourn the loss of his only friend.
The next day, at around lunchtime, the people of the village had a funeral for the young man. Oblivion watched from the side, too upset to actually be there. He howled an eerie howl as the man was lowered into the ground. His howl was his way of saying goodbye. After the funeral, the villagers all met in the town hall and had a meeting about the half-blid black wolf. They wanted to do something for him. One woman, in her fifties, stood up and announced "I will make him a pendant. A mood pendant, one that actually works. It'll be nothing like the mood rings you buy from the shops." They all agreed and parted.
The woman worked on the mood pendant and tested it continuously for a week before it was perfect. She then handed it to the mayor, who was going to give it to him. Oblivion didn't really do much, apart from get fed and watered by the village people. At the end of the week, a child of about seven or eight years old went into the graveyard and woke Oblivion up. "Come with me, Oblivion" she said happily. "I have something to show you." Oblivion got up, yawned and stretched, then followed the child down through the village and into the town square.
The child laughed and everyone turned to look at Oblivion. His jaw almost dropped in surprise but it didn't. "Come here, Oblivion" the mayor said. The wolf padded through the people and up the stairs, stopping on the wooden stage, just in front of the mayor. The mayor held up the pendant and smiled. "We, the villagefolk of Sleepy Hollow, award you, Oblivion, this very special, one-of-a-kind mood pendant" the mayor said and slipped it onto the canine's neck. "Even though you're quite scary-looking, with your paws of flame, you are a blessing to us all. And I bet Benjamin will be very proud of you." The people cheered and applauded. The photographer took a picture of Oblivion and the next day, news about him had swept across the country. Everyone was reading the newspaper article about him...
Including the Devil Wolf himself. He chuckled an evil chuckle and smiled an evil smile as he read through it. He then called upon his minions. "Bring this wolf to me" he demanded and showed them the picture that had been taken the day before. The minions looked at it and talked to each other. "NOW!" shouted the Devil Wolf. The minions nodded and ran off to get Oblivion.
Oblivion was asleep under the tree in the graveyard. Some minions were watching and giggled. He woke up and yawned. Suddenly, the ground not far from where he was opened up. He stood up and went to it. He looked down it and felt a warm blast on his face. The minions crept up behind him and pushed him in.
The black wolf fell and yelled in fear. He soon landed in a hot place with a thump and was winded. He laid there for a few minutes without moving. The head minion approached Oblivion and smiled a wicked smile. Oblivion stood up and looked at him. "Follow me, black wolf" the head minion told him. "Someone wants to see you." He followed the head minion and padded nervously, looking around at the strange place. His pendant glowed orange, showing that he was scared.
The head minion led Obivion to the throne room of the Devil Wolf. Oblivion looked up at the Devil Wolf and shook in fear. "W-w-what d-do y-y-you w-want f-f-from m-me?" he asked, whimpering and frozen to the spot. The Devil Wolf laughed. "Don't you mean what do you want from me?" he asked. "W-what d-d-do y-you m-mean?" asked a frightening Oblivion. The Devil Wolf sighed. "I know all about you... Oblivion. You are my son." Oblivion looked up at him in confusion. His pendant now glowed a mixture of orange and silver. "Have you ever wondered why you were different? Why you were driven out or why you were the thirteenth in the litter to be born? Why your paws burst into flames? It was because of me, Oblivion. Would you like to have white markings like your siblings?" Oblivion nodded. "Y-yes p-please" he answered, stuttering. "But I want you to do something for me in return" requested the Devil Wolf. Oblivion tilted his head to one side. "What is it?" he asked. "I want to control you in return, as I can't go up there myself" said the Devil Wolf. Oblivion sighed and thought about it. He finally looked at the Devil Wolf and agreed. The Devil Wolf laughed and howled the same eerie howl that Oblivion had...
Oblivion woke up, panting. His pendant glowed orange and silver - afraid and confused. He sighed and stretched himself. "Just a dream" he told himself and walked to the dip just by the gates of the graveyard. It was filled with rainwater. "Just a..." He stopped and looked closer into the puddle. He saw white marks, just like what he wanted. "Not a dream, not a dream. It was real" he said and sighed. "Well, there's nothing I can do about it now" he said and drank the water. What he didn't know was that the Devil Wolf made him ageless. He has lived in Sleepy Hollow's graveyard ever since.
Use [for pet]:
He will be the perfect character for me to have in spooky roleplays. He's been here for a month or so now and he has always caught my eye. Also, Wesleydog said that he was my type of character XD.
