Tracker Dog you want:
#73
Name you'll give it:
Dante, meaning 'Lasting' in Latin. I thought this would fit, as he is a rather aged tracker, and the growth on his head can still light, even if dully. He's a lasting spirit, always trying to help where he is, or maybe is not needed.
Reason why you want it:
Usually I love to check out the trackers here, because they are just so cool! I've wanted a tracker since I first saw this place, and visit it whenever I notice there's a new series. But... most of them don't catch my eye quite like this guy did. He may be old, but I can see that he still has a lot of life in him, as well as things to teach. I've tried to find a tracker that really made me desperate to get it, to keep it as my own. So far, the tracker's I've tried for have been really cool, but I didn't feel for them like I do for this one. When I read over his personality, it literally made me smile, perhaps because it reminds me of people I know, or maybe because it's something I can imagine making things with. Stories, pictures, etc.
His design was also a factor (obviously X3). I love the maroon color, and it fits so perfectly with the brown. The lighter (or darker) accents compliment his design, and though the growth on his head may be duller than it was when he was younger, it just makes me want him all the more.
Will it be used in any kind of story?:
Perhaps! I'm not going to lie and say yes, and promise a story that may never come. I do have a few ideas, involving his life when he was younger leading up to now when he is going through the option of adopting. The intro I will write may be used in
Describe its personality:
Dante has a certain kindness, and sense of pride and intellegence that never seems to fade, no matter how long you've known him. He posesses much of the traits he had when he was young. He's quite a prankster, and finds amusement in irritating younger beings. He's very thick headed, and isn't easily swayed, no matter how hard you try to convince him of something that he does not agree with. Once his mind is set on something, it's best to let him at least try what he's wanting to do, because you'll often find him in an irritated mood if you don't. It's easy to get on his bad side, and he can hold a grudge for quite a while.
Most of the time he's silent, and likes to watch before stepping in to correct. Sometimes it's hard to tell he's an aged tracker, still getting quick spurts of adrenaline and being able to run swiftly for a short distance. But he easily tires, and he can often be found either sleeping, or watching his surroundings. When searching or doing something, he takes his time, always trying not to rush into things as he did when he was younger. He gained many scars that way. He expresses his opinions about things very clearly, making sure no one missunderstands what he's trying to get across.
Dante believes eyes are the windows to the soul, and though he can not see, he can still sense. One of the places he can 'sense' best are faces. You'll sometimes feel as though eyes are on you, only to discover that it's Dante with his face facing you. This is one way he learns about others, by studying their expressions and seeing what he can get from their eyes say.
Gaining some knowledge in his time The Tracker Dog Facility and elsewhere, he's always eager to share what he knows with others. Though he can be solitary, he's actually better around others, as he's never been completely comfortable with silence. He likes to think of himself as a guide, acting with kindness and dignity, and always trying to point out what others are missing... Sometimes obnoxiously. He's not too-easily offended, and tries to see both sides to an arguement before making his own desision. Once he reaches his own desision, he rightfully keeps it, as he will often wait for long periods of time before making it. He's always wanting to learn more, and like when he was young, he enjoys fables and mythology.
Write an introduction for your Tracker:
The newly named Dante stared at a young girl standing a few feet away. It was as if the two were having a staring contest, though Dante had no eyes. Both were determind not to look away, and both had the same intent, curious expression as they studied (or sensed, in Dante's case) each other.
Finally, the girl looked away, hiding a smile as she did. Dante gave a snort of triumph and paced back and fourth around the small room, steering clear of this strange female. Just this morning he had been at the lab, dreaming the same dream. He, a young tracker again, bounding through a feild of fresh grass and blooming tulips... Until he had been awakened by a scientist he had known since his creation. They didn't have a bond, no. Especially not after he had injected Dante (then just called '74') with a sleeping syrum, crammed him in a crate, and let this human girl take him to her home. She was different, yes. Most young human beings prefered adopting the younger trackers, so full of excitment and life, instead of grizzled old trackers like him.
He didn't understand how the girl looked upon him, and immediatley felt as though she had to offer him her home with open arms, ignoring his scars and somewhat dull growths. And though he was being rather difficult, she had expected it, as she had been warned before adopting him. It was clear he was going to be cross with her until they came to know each other.
So she waited for him to stop pacing before looking him square in the face, trying to determine where his eyes would be. She marveled at him for a moment, taking in all his features and giving a grin.
Dante turned away, giving her a huff of dissaproval. He certainly wasn't going to marvel at her. Aching for sleep to come, he trotted around, trying to find a place to rest his head, and the girl pointed to a mat on the floor. Groaning, he stretched before jumping on it. May as well make the best of this...
***
Over the next few hours upon his awakening, Dante made a few things very clear.
*No leashes or collars, under any circumstance
*He refused to eat kibble of any kind
*Don't wake him unless you like a grumpy tracker
"You're clearly like no other dog." she muttered.
Obviously. Dante gave her a hard 'look' before lifting his nose. What was that familiar smell? He fallowed his nose around the room, and sat by a door, scraping at it for a moment and looking at the girl expectantly. "Oh, you want to go outside." she chuckled, crossing the room and opening the door. What greeted him was a large, no, huge backyard. Filled with green grass, and... tulips. The tracker didn't wait for an invite and he treaded outside, aware that he would not be running unless he wanted to be stiff when he woke up from his next slumber. He explored, went after a rabbit or two that crossed his path, having no intent on actually killing them. No he wouldn't fancy that taste like he did many years ago.
And not once did the girl interrupt. It was clear he wanted to be alone while he did this.
After a while, the aged tracker came back to the house, and sat beside the wall. The girl reached foreward timidly to stroke his fur. He was probably wanting to have the energy he once had. Dante pretended not to notice as she reached for him, and pulled away at the last second, watching her fall foreward. So close!
If trackers could smile, Dante was doing it. "Oh. Teasing me, eh?" she smiled. The tracker pretended not to notice her, and stood a bit taller, feeling the earth beneath his paws. Yes, he was warming up to the girl. But, she didn't expect to be able to actually feel him until Dante began to grow more comfortable with her. So, with a sigh, she sat back against the door and enjoyed the cool spring breeze.
"I can wait."
