woo:
The sun was hot, and the weather did make one sleepy. Sartores and Benediction were lying down under a tree trunk, back to back. It was comforting to have a solid, warm, furry friend at your back, and they were both sleeping lightly. While their respective elements of plasma and liquid normally hovered above their backs, now the elements hovered directly above where their spines met. Liquid attempted to extinguish plasma, and plasma attempted to evaporate liquid as both elements fought for dominance in the same space. Passa, previous to falling asleep herself just under the edge of the tree branches, had watched this furious and futile fight without much interest.
There was a noise as a brand-new arrival to Ahzen hit the tree. Benediction woke up and elbowed Sartores, who jerked awake. "I heard something," she said in a low voice.
Sartores looked around. Other than some milling Ahzenai and their companions, there was no one nearby. Certainly no one that might prove a threat. "You're still jumpy from our last journey," he said with a yawn, and put his head down again. "We're back in Ahzen now, even if it is the matter cycle."
Benny saw the same thing he did, and was disappointed not to find any threats. "There's something hiding here," she protested, but weakly. Despite her suspicions, she couldn't find any solid evidence.
Sartores and Benediction had almost fallen back asleep when there was a rustle in the branches above them. Both Ahzenai tensed, and without saying anything, leaped away from each other. And a good thing too, for if they had stopped to chat, Reeves would have had a much softer landing. "IMMACHICKEN!" he shouted, "Squaawk!"
Sartores regarded the new ahzenai curiously. "Perhaps a touch of the sun, inducing hallucinations, or maybe it's lack of nutrients, causing a fit..." As he murmured, he walked carefully around Reeves, sniffing at the Ahzenai's ears, nose, and eyes, trying to identify the scents of illness, if any were to be found.
Benediction sat down on her haunches like a prim show cat. "He's insane," she said bluntly to Sartores.
"No no, I think maybe he's just dehydrated," Sartores decided, "If we can just get him to the lake for a drink of water..."
Passa, who had been surprised awake and up by the shouting, said in a monotone, "Run Reeves, run while you can," and flopped back down, asleep before she hit the ground.
