Tracker Dog Application Series 20
Tracker Dog #71 I Available Until 5 October
Gender: Female
Another creature has turned up at our doorstep, same as Ferral before it.
She's very large, muscular and strong for a normal Tracker Dog and has the 'gentle giant' appeal to her. Unlike the first Exo-Skeleton, this female's weaponry does not harm but protects instead.
She can create a small force-field around herself and anything standing near. The force-field can be up for a maximum of 60 seconds and she is unable to move while producing it.
Note:
This Tracker was not created at the Tracker Dog Facility, but has been proved safe enough to be adopted out.

Tracker Dog you want:
Number Seventy-One ~ #71

Name you'll give it:
Alexa

Reason for given name:
In Greek, the name Alexa means, 'Protector Of Mankind' and in English it also means 'Defender'. Since she can create a force-field and defend herself along with others, I thought Alexa was perfect for her.

Reason why you want it:
I fell in love with this Tracker when I saw her, she has perfectly intricate designs including her armour. She is stunning and her ability is amazing. Everything about Alexa is perfect, her darker blue markings are beautiful and the colours contrast amazingly together. Even the armour on her body is lovely, everything about her works together extremely flawlessly. I just love her so much <3

Will it be used in any kind of story?
Of course! She is amazing and would totally be great in any story.

Describe its personality:
Alexa is highly intelligent and trustworthy. She acts upon her decision and it is always final, she will do everything in her power to protect the ones she trusts. She is also quite cunning, using it along with her ability to secure others' safety.

~A~
The 'A' stands for Adventurous, she loves adventures that show her skills in multiply ways. If it's any challenge, she is willing to rise to the task at hand.
~L~
The 'L' in Alexa stands for Loyal. She will stand by her companion and she will always be by your side no-matter what. Alexa is a companion like no-other, she will be with you forever.
~E~
The 'E' stands for Energetic, she is always ready to go for any task and be enthusiastic towards whatever she will have to do.
~X~
The 'X' stands for Xelirating. Alexa loves to help people and make them happy, protecting them as much as she can.
~A~
The 'A' stands for Active, she will always be around her companion, doing her best to help in every way she can.

Write an introduction for your Tracker:
I blinked, the light momentarily disorientated me. Carefully I shook my head, the light bouncing off of the building in front of me. I looked up at the building and then down, scanning the Lab before taking a step inside. I felt nervous, although I hoped it didn't show too much. Taking a breath, I opened the door, my eyes falling upon the Tracker Dog Compound. I made my way over to the door, standing on the tips of my toes to look through the small window. A smile played on my lips as I saw the Trackers. Opening the door, my footsteps were soft and light as I made my way inside. I gasped quietly as I saw the Trackers, my feet pulling me towards a Tracker that seemed to be wearing armour. The Tracker was a beautiful light blue with, well.. I'm not sure what it was. My heart instantly fell in love with this one. I knelt down and read the description;

So she could make force-fields! I was taken a-back by this Tracker. I felt as if I already had a bond with her. Holding out my hand I saw her sniff it while I smiled at her. One word escaped my mouth, "Alexa." I whispered, knowing that the Tracker would have heard me. She seemed to nod to me and I then stood up, placing my hand on her head as I gently stroked her. She bounded around my legs and I let out a quiet laugh as I watched her. I smiled at her, "Would you like to come with me?" I asked her, wondering if she would partly understand what I was saying. I heard a small barking noise from her as if she was saying 'yes'. With a big smile on my face I walked towards the door, "Alexa, my Tracker Dog companion." I whispered to her as we walked out of the door. I couldn't wait for the adventures that awaited us both, as a team.

Tracker Dog you want: [71]

Name you'll give it: [Valeda, means 'Brave' in Latin]

Reason why you want it:
[Her appearance and personality really appeal to me and, seeing as I have companions rather then a fursona, I think she would make an amazing companion in addition to Tamani, my Ahzenai and a few others. Plus I have lots of story ideas for her so it would work well XD]

Will it be used in any kind of story?
[Yes, definitely, I'm getting a brilliant idea for a combination story with all my companions, Faelin, Vella, Tamani, Whisper, and -hopefully- Valeda. It wouldn't really work without her though so I really hope I win ^-^]

Describe its personality:
Valeda is a quiet and well mannered soul. She lives for the days when peace and prosperity will reign supreme and she isn't terribly fond of her more....ruthless, kindred. That being said she is not averse to fighting a war first to prevent FUTURE bloodshed, though if given a choice she would just make everyone get along. Valeda is the sort of creature you'd imagine sitting in a garden of long stemmed roses writing poetry, she has a beautiful melodic soul that draws males, and even women, to her like bees. They all just want a taste of the peace she exudes. Yet amid this seemingly flawless and flowery personality description there is a dark side to be revealed as well.

While Valeda is all the above things and more she has a lot more depth to her then just some shallow, naive and dream-entrapped fool. Valeda has seen REAL struggles and troubles. She wasn't, after all, created in the Tracker Dog Facility, but rather simply showed up at their doorstep one day. Truth is, Valeda's seen it all, not literally of course, that would be rather impossible, but all the same she's been through a lot.

Originally she was built for destruction, with an invisible energy shield that exploded upon contact with another creature/being. She was a bona fide assassin, and was highly valued in some of the more shady criminal circles. Valeda hated it though, hated what she had been created for and the fact that she was too weak to do anything about it. One day however she stumbled upon a brilliant old man who took good care of her for several days, there had been a terrible storm and he hadn't allowed her to leave in the midst of that tempest. In that brief time Valeda learned what it was to be loved for who she was, not what she did. In those days she had been called Shataik, which in some unknown language meant 'she-devil', another aspect of herself she desperately hated was her name. When, after returning to "work" after the storm passed, three weeks had gone by Valeda couldn't take it and ran back to the old man. He called her 'Valeda' for daring to come to him and managed to somehow discover a way to alter her ability to a force-field that protected rather then harmed. Initially Valeda planned on living with the old man but her current "employer" found them somehow and killed the old man. Valeda ran away, vowing never to return to that wretched and evil way of existence. Somehow she found her way to the Tracker Dog Facility and was trained there until she was deemed "safe to adopt" she hopes to begin a new chapter in her life through this.

The above condensed history of Valeda's life pertains to her personality in a big way. It is, in essence, the base on which her entire personality was formed. The dark, vicious, side of her still exists and does come to the surface sometimes, however she fights those dark impulses and generally is an absolute sweetheart. Yet every creature has their struggles and Valeda is no different. Yet she grapples with the forces of good and evil, a significantly more intense form of struggle. Since her base nature is evil she has, in essence, become an extraordinarily unnatural being through her pursuit of true justice and peace. Just be warned, her dark side does come to light sometimes, and when it does you'd best pray you are far, far, away.

Write an introduction for your Tracker:

//Valeda//Female//Tracker Dog//Exo-Skeleton//
[I only wish for world-wide peace]
[I only wish for relief from torturous memories]
[I only wish people would see me for me]
[I only wish I could turn back time]
[Yet I cant, I can't, the world is as it is]
[And I'm standing here]
[Alone]

Valeda trotted silently through the trees. The grass made soft swishing sounds, like whispering voices, as she passed but she barely paid that any heed. She was weary, in both heart and mind. An image of the old man's face, a kind face with warm brown eyes, flashed briefly in her head. It didn't compare to the last image she had of him, covered in blood with a look of shocked surprise on his face. Would that she could erase that memory. It was bad enough that he had held no qualms about her past and wouldn't have held his death against her. Why couldn't he have just hated her? She could've dealt with that easier, yet a small voice whispered the truth in her head You needed him. You needed him to set you free and you know it. Yes, well that was true but...why did her freedom have to come at such a horrible high price? It seemed wretchedly unfair somehow and grieved her deeply. Shaking herself, as though shedding the bad memories completely, Valeda turned to a different thought. Her new name, Valeda...Va-lee-da. Valeda, Valeda, Valeda. it had such a lovely flowing sound to it. Honestly it reminded her of a melodic river, flowing through a flower filled valley, which was ridiculous but then again, she had no control over what her brain connected a word with. Even the mention of her old name frightened her, for it awoke in her the old evil and desires that had once held sway over her. Valeda rather felt as though there were two parts of herself. The kind and peace-loving Valeda, and the evil and psychotic Shataik.

Shuddering Valeda looked up to find herself in a clearing of sorts. A large field stretched far ahead of her but oddly it was covered in scents very similar to her own. Tilting her head in slight puzzlement she scanned the surrounding landscape. A huge building was on the very far side of the field and, almost against her will, Valeda found herself slowly walking across the field towards the strange facility that smelled like Tracker Dogs. It took about seven minutes for Valeda to cross that field and approach the building, perhaps she had been a little more cautious then necessary but its better to be safe than sorry right? She had a working understanding of some aspects of the human language and as such the sign above the large clinical doors was fairly easy for her to read.

Sign Above Building wrote:Image

Valeda's eyes widened in pleasure and surprise, other Tracker dogs? This looked really promising. Hesitantly she stepped up to the building, she never had trusted anything on sight and she wasn't about to start now honestly. Deciding that if all else failed she could put up her force field Valeda decided to risk it. Lifting a paw she scraped her nails down the door, causing it to emit a screeching sound. Plopping back down into a sitting position Valeda waited for someone to open the door. She didn't have to wait long either before voices could be heard just outside the door. The door opened a crack and a human peered out at her. There was a muffled exclamation of surprise and then the door quickly shut. For a moment Valeda felt an unreasonable pain, so, these people didn't want her either. She was about to turn and run away when she realized that there was an excessive amount of activity going on within the facility. She paused, could it be they were just collecting themselves to present themselves to her? Or something along those lines? An unreasonable hope shone in her heart like an unquenchable beam of light penetrating a darkened hole. Turning slowly she looked questioningly at the door, suddenly, the door was flung open. With widened eyes of surprise, Valeda contemplated running, but before she could even start a commanding voice rang out from behind her.

"Stay where you are strange-tracker. We mean you no harm and you are to come peacefully with us."

Valeda hesitated, a sudden fear had sprung up inside her, this wasn't the greeting she had been hoping for. Contrary to that this scared her to death. It reminded her of what her old superiors were like, that commanding tone and promise that no harm would come to her. Whirling she gave a bark of surprise. She had expected a soldier of some sort to be standing there, and yet instead there stood a large tracker dog with wings. Just glaring at her as if daring her to try anything, a smaller Tracker dog stood beside him, looking more sympathetic and a little nervous. Clearing his throat the smaller one stepped forward, bobbing his head slightly in acknowledgement of her.

"What my companion is TRYING to say is that the Tracker Dog Facility welcomes you. However, since you are not a recognized Tracker Dog you must come with us. The humans of the institute will perform some simple tests to determine whether you are a hazard to us. Afterwards, assuming you pass, they will put you through intense training until you are deemed suitable for adoption."

the dogs long tongue rolled almost gracefully out of his mouth as he paused for a long moment.

"I am a Stealth Tracker, smaller but swift. Able to catch up to you easily. My...companion, here is an Aerial Tracker, able to spot you from up above. In short, there's really no escape, you have no choice but to go peacefully with us. Or else we'll just catch you later and there will be a lot more fuss."

He had the decency to look slightly apologetic and Valeda did appreciate that. Seeing no other option she hesitantly dipped her head and acquiesced to their request. She was careful though to dip her head ONLY to the "Stealth Tracker" who had been kind to her. The other deserved no such greeting in her mind.

The two Tracker dogs walked on either side of her as she turned and padded slowly towards the door, which now lay open like a gaping maw that led into the heart of a monster. Just as they stepped onto the threshold she paused. Whatever happened next would profoundly change her life, she knew that, and yet...what other options did she have? At least here she would be with her own kind....with that reasoning in mind and forcing herself to be brave, Valeda took a deep breath and stepped inside.

6 Months Later

Valeda stepped quietly out into the large field. Amazing how much things had changed in just six months. She had literally gone through a complete metamorphosis, learning how to apply her talent with force-fields to protecting a companion when they were endangered. All the rudimentary skills she had had in regard to being useful to her potential human owner had been refined and perfected. She felt...polished somehow. That her specialty was protection for those who needed it pleased her no end, glancing up at the sky she found herself wondering if the old man could see and approved. She had a strange feeling that he could and did. Lolling her tongue out happily she felt the faintest twinge of apprehension, today was the day, the day she was first released for adoption. What if no one wanted her? What if she messed up and made her prospective owner hate her? What if the Shaitaik side of her popped up and ruined all of this? What if-.....but no. She couldn't allow herself to be eaten up by the 'What-if's' it would destroy her if she did. Shaking herself ruefully she was about to leave when she noticed that the original Stealth Tracker she had met, Thresher, was approaching her with a determined look. Feeling rather curious about what he could want Valeda sat and waited for him to come within an appropriate distance for communication. Thresher didn't take too long to reach her side and when he did he opted to sit and look straight ahead rather than directly at her. Valeda wondered at this but said nothing, a slight twitch of her ears being the only sign of her surprise.

"Valeda...."

he said with a soft sigh, he appeared to be searching for the correct words and Valeda didn't rush him. Something she had learned quickly about Thresher was that he refused to be rushed into communicating his thoughts.

"You'll find a home quickly. I know it. You have a kind heart and loyalty, not even a human could miss noticing that. I suppose I just wished to say that I shall miss you and your company and I wish you well. I also sincerely hope you do well and find happiness with the people who adopt you."

He shook his head in slight amusement and finally turned to face her.

"I apologize for how corny that must have sounded."

He gave a soft snort of amusement and shook his head wryly,

"I do mean it though, and if ever you run nto trouble and don't know who to turn to I'll be here for you."

With that Thresher got up and left, brushing gently against her as means of saying goodbye. Valeda stared after him for a while, wondering at the odd feeling of loss she felt. Still, it wouldn't do to dwell on feelings that were attached to the Tracker Facility, after all, she wouldn't be here much longer.

Only a few short hours later she was sitting in the special kennel that all adoptable Trackers stayed in while the public meandered through and made their choices over whom they wished to adopt. Much to her surprise Valeda noted a lady walk into the room followed by a feline-like creature that had horns on its head, a strange sizzling blue substance wreathing about its back, and a patterning like a cheetah. Valeda huffed her shock at this though apparently this woman had three MORE oddballs with her. Two of these were wolf-like creatures but much larger while the third was a red doe with white markings like a visible spine running down her back. Though Valeda couldn't fathom what sort of menagerie this woman had it certainly appeared interesting.

For a brief moment the woman hesitated, as though trying to decide which hall to traverse first. Inwardly Valeda willed her to walk down this hall, she wanted to know more about this strange little group that had so piqued her interest. As though her thoughts had reached her the woman turned and walked towards the kennel Valeda was in, her strange 'companions' following closely behind.

For a brief instant it appeared as though they would continue on past her kennel, yet the strange cat-like, creature thing suddenly reached out a paw to touch the woman and spoke.

"Stop. I feel a need to speak with this one here."

It took a moment for Valeda to realize that this creature was talking about HER. For a moment she felt offended but that quickly passed and she looked curiously at the woman to see her response. Surprise was etched on her face and she turned, puzzled, to study Valeda. Something like understanding flashed in her eyes and she nodded. Smiling to her companion.

"Of course Tamani, I sort of sense it too, though its you who has the knack for this, not me."

The one called Tamani simply nodded once and then proceeded approached her. For a moment she seemed to struggle with how to say what she wanted to say but slowly the dialect become recognizable and much to Valeda's surprise she realized that Tamani was speaking Tracker Dog.

"Greetings young one! I am Tamani. My human companion over there is Ashwyn and the three others are Faelin, Vella, and Whisper."

the creature dipped her head in the direction of the aforementioned three and then turned back towards her.

"We are a group of companions who travels with Ashwyn. However Faelin, Vella, and Whisper tend to wander off on their own to their own pack and herd. Ashwyn is alright with that of course but she longs for a companion who'll stick with her and keep her company. And more to the point, someone to keep ME company. I have little to do when Ashwyn is gone and as such I've had a longing to find someone to go on adventures with me. Fealin and Vella would, perhaps, join us but generally it would just be us two. The problem is that, despite being an adept fighter, the places I wish to go are riddled with more danger then even I can handle. Thus the need for someone else to watch my back."

Tamani appeared to have finished speaking and Valeda couldn't quell the delight that filled her. This Tamani's instincts had been spot on, what a pleasant surprise it would be to them that she could generate a force-field. Valeda was aware of the huge decision she was about to make but pushed it aside....for now. She still had a bit of time to make her decision.

"My ability is that I can generate a force-field. It would be very useful to you I expect."

she said, a slight twinkle glowing in her eyes. The time had come, she FELT it. Taking a deep, uncertain breath she looked up into the intelligent ice-blue eyes of Tamani and slowly nodded her head.

"If you will have me I would love to go on adventures with you. I'd protect you and be a caring companion to Lady Ashwyn."

her voice came out as no more then a whisper. This, THIS was what she had waited for her whole life. That it was happening to her, that her dream of a better life was about to be realized, was....awe-inspiring. The only thing that could have made it better was if Thresher had been able to share this with her. A brief moment of sadness passed over her but she pushed it away. This was the start of her new life, and with Tamani looking happily at her she knew that she had found her family. Her home.

The kennel door opened and with a sharp intake of breath Valeda knew. The instant she stepped out the door of this kennel her life would be completely different. New. Feeling gloriously elated she lifted a single paw and took her first step into her new life.

Another 6 Months Later, Somewhere in the Forithren Aztec Ruins

Valeda ran as fast as her legs would carry her, her tongue lolled out and her eyes wide in both excitement and fear. Beside her Tamani ran with her ears pinned back, her element swirling wildly about her a wide feline grin on her face.

"Didn't I tell you this would be amazing! Who would have imagined you'd be joining me for such a wild adventure only 6 months after our initial meeting?"

Tamani crowed, her voice loud and rushed, but filled with elation as well. Valeda flashed a canine grin back at her, it was quite true. Had Thresher or any other Tracker told her that a year from her arrival at the Tracker Dog institute she'd be running from a pack of Chimera's that dwelt in the Forithren Aztec Ruins.

Tamani and her had learned of an unexplored Aztec ruin that was said to hold some sort of mysterious secret. Tamani, having an insatiable curiosity, insisted that they MUST discover what secrets this ruin held. Thus they began a three month journey into the heart of the Brazilian jungle. Ashwyn was likely the most easy-going person Valeda had ever had the pleasure of encountering. Not only had she told them to take all the time they needed and enjoy themselves but she had also, to make the trip easier for them, arranged for private transportation across the continent to Brazil. Since, obviously, the sight of a strange elemental cat creature and a frightening looking canine didn't tend to sit well with fellow travelers. Their journey through Brazil to GET to the ruins had been perilous enough, or at least Valeda thought so. With poisonous and dangerous animals running amuck and treacherous terrain every other step it had been nothing short of a miracle that they had reached the ruins in one piece. Now, however, Valeda couldn't help but feel that their chances of escaping unscathed from THIS situation was slim to none. Still, Tamani's attitude tended to rub off on a creature and Valeda felt a mounting excitement with every stuff she took.

As if on an unspoken cue Tamani yelped in shock and barreled into her, knocking them both flat on the ground. For a brief moment Valeda was sure she was going to die here, especially when she saw a flash of tawny, matted, fur passing almost right in front of her nose. Somehow, however, she managed to put up her force-field and for the moment the two of them were safe. Shaking her fur Tamani sat up and let out a long huff.

"Whew! That was certainly a close call. Thank goodness for your force-field. Pity you're stuck in that awkward position though. I'll try and come up with a way out of this mess quickly."

Tamani said cheerfully, apparently unconcerned by the giant, ferocious, dragon/snake/goat/lion beasts that were pacing outside the protective boundary of the force-field. Sniffing as casually as if she was on a midnight stroll Tamani snuffed at the ground, and then looked up towards the forest. Her eyes were thoughtful and contemplative and Valeda knew she had a plan in mind. Slowly the Ahzenai turned to her Tracker Dog friend and spoke.

"As far as I can tell these beasties can't travel any farther then that marked pillar over there.

She pointed with her tail to a large, half-pillar that had a variety of swirling, golden, tribal markings adorning them. Valeda had to admit, it DID make sense that the creatures couldn't travel pas it. Otherwise they would surely have began to terrorize the human world by now. Nodding slowly Valeda turned back to her friend.

"So whats the plan then?"

She murmured, trying to think like Tamani did, where every blade of grass, every rock, every speck of dust, had the potential to benefit them somehow. Frankly Valeda didn't know how the lovely Ahzenai did it, pure genius, but regardless of that she had yet to see her friend backed into a corner that she couldn't get out of. Beaming now the golden Ahzenai winked one eye at her.

"Simple! We're going to sit here as though your force-field lasts forever and hope they get bored. Then, when or if they do, we'll make a run for it the instant your shield drops."

If Valeda could have screamed like a human she would have. THAT was the brilliant master plan?!?!

"You are utterly, and completely, insane."

Valeda growled almost mutinously. This was NOT what she had had in mind for their means of escape. Her previous praiseful thoughts towards her friend seemed woefully inaccurate at the moment, and for good reason! These Chimera's, though out of practice, could run despicably fast, fly, and devour BOTH of them in one bite....and neither of them were small by anyone's standards. Swallowing heavily Valeda decided that she had no choice but to follow Tamani's lead. Trying to paste on a look of utter boredom and annoyance, she tracked the movement of the giant, "mythological" creatures. Minutes ticked by and Valeda could sense that her force field would dissipate any minute now. Glancing at Tamani she blinked once, slowly, to signal this fact. Tamani blinked back and they both held their breath for a moment.....the force field was gone!

Valeda ran like she had never ran before, her eyes wide with panic for a moment, fixed on the pillar with an unwavering desperation. That her life might end after it had turned so wonderful?!? It would have been the ultimate cruelty. Panting heavily she would have kept on running forever if Tamani hadn't shoved her down.

"We're safe! We're safe! No need to run anymore!"

She called in faint amusement, exhilaration lacing her voice. For a minute Valeda didn't dare move, or even breathe. Could it be true? Slowly it sunk in, it WAS true! They had made it! Giving a joyful yip she leapt to her feet and pranced around Tamani,

"We did it! We did it! And we're not DEAD!!!!"

Tamani shot her a glance that was full of humour and warmth.

"Your powers of observation are astounding Valeda. Best part is, we can do it all again in a few months from now!"

Valeda started to laugh and then saw the excited eagerness on her friends face and froze. Seriously? They'd be going through THIS again in a few months? Valeda blinked once and opened her mouth to say something, anything, but nothing came. Slowly she closed her gaping maw and hung her head. This would be the death of her. Grimly she looked up into Tamani's face,

"When we get back we best train harder then ever before. Especially me. If we have ANY hope of survival I'll needt improve my force-field."

Her tone was so grim and her eyes so serious that they were both silent for a long moment afterwards. Then, simultaneously the burst into loud laughter. Yes, Valeda was enjoying her new life, and she wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world.

[A realized dream]
[The sweetest nectar]
[Like sweet sugar melting on your tongue]
[Easing away the bitterness of memories]
[Paving the way for a new life]
[And here I stand]
[Finally Home]

This was an extremely hard choice, between three (later narrowed down to two) very, very good forms.
This one had a more suited personality for the Exo-Skeletons and I adored the story's beginning and personality (about her past life, before she got to the Tracker Dog Facility) though I think that you needed to use the given personality (Gentle Giant) more to make this the top for for #71.

Also, HornedDragon, that pixel Tracker you made was absolutely adorable. c:
I highly reccomend that you open a shop selling custom pixel works or colour-ins of 'bouncing'/animated Tracker Dog linearts, because I want one ;A; you'll get a lot of customers and I would love to order something if you do~
I would also like to tell you that you were the runner-up for #71, but I think that you needed to be more aware of the fact that (this is only for the Exo-Skeletons, if you're reading) that I *personally* prefer for them to be from the traditional Tracker Dog Facility. Though I adored your story, it might need a bit of muting down since there were unanswered questions as well as the fact that the main character seemed to jump from activity to activity unnaturally (like when she instantly fell asleep after she 'beat-up' those scientists on that chair).
