Name: Shadow
Species: Fox Demon
Personality: Shadow is a natural born leader, believing in justice and equality. This makes it hard for him to live in a pack ruled by his father, who is the total opposite when it comes to leading. Despite his appearance, Shadow is not cold-hearted, or battle-loving. He values intelligence and knowledge, never making rash decisions. Shadow has had to deal with many terrible things throughout his life, but he has managed to perservere through all of them because of his hard will and thoughtfulness. Because his father is possessed, Shadow has to deal with others thinking the same of him, though he is nothing like his father; Shadow is peace-loving.
Likes: Shadow loves Nisa, the beautiful white female from the rival pack. He enjoys overcoming difficult situations, and solving problems. He also likes nature; cold, snowy winters, and warm, sunny summers. Spending time with Nisa is one of his favorite things, for she has never judged him, and hopefully never will. He also loves his mother, who is always there to provide him with guidance.
Dislikes: Shadow dislikes hate, war, and violence. He also hates discrimination, and being feared because of his appearance. He also dislikes his father, for trying to press a hateful, proud midset on him, and for trying to force him to take a mate. Shaff, from the rival pack, is another dog that Shadow dislikes, because of Shaff's closeness to Nisa.
Background:
Many years ago, far away, there stood an old mansion. This mansion stood on top of a giant grassy hill, with gorgeous wild flowers scattered around. At the base of this hill there was a beautiful forest with tall, leafy trees that let dappled sunlight fall on the green ferns. Huge willow trees stood around a large pond that was also at the base. The landscaping could have been out of a fairy-tale, the mansion could have been a castle. The place where this land was had wonderful seasons; rainy springs, leafy autumns, warm summers, and snowy winters. This property went on for acres and acres, and far in the distance beautiful mountains could be seen.
In this lovely place lived the Willerman family. The Willermans were extremely rich, which is why they possessed what they did. The family lived in that mansion for generation after generation, for it was passed down to the next family member in line. The Willerman family loved animals. Inside the mansion, there were tanks of fish, exotic looking cats, and colorful birds. For a long time, they had a herd of Shetland ponies that ran free on their property. But mabey the Willermans' favorite type of animal was the canine. Several of them owned tamed foxes and wolves over the years, and one member of the family was even known to have possessed a tame Hyena.
The strange thing is, the Willermans didn't mind keeping foxes, wolves, and hyenas captive; but they all refused to keep a dog inside or locked up. Though this family lasted for hundreds of years, a dog was never kept as a pet. This may have been because the second generation of Willermans started the Pack. This couple bought eight purebred dogs, all of the same breed, and all gorgeous. They had pointed, erect ears, long, volumous tails, and lean, muscular bodies. They were large, brave, intelligent, and strong dogs; all with different colored fur. These eight were released in the Willermans' property, and fended for themselves. However, the Willermans loved their dogs, and kept very good track of them. Each birth, death, and mating was documented; and all these documents were kept. The Pack wasn't allowed to breed with any outside canine, so their race was kept pure.
The Willermans prospered for a long time, but eventually the current owners of the mansion died, and it was given to their son (Benjamin) and his wife. Benjamin and his wife lived in California, they were the "in" type, and had no wish to move to some isolated, old mansion in Europe. Benjamin traveled by plane to the mansion, and collected the many cats, rabbits, ferrets, birds, and the raccoon inside. He sold these pets for money alon with the last two Shetland ponies. He had no wish, however, to go out and round up the many dogs that roamed free. Benjamin collected the money and expensive furniture in the old mansion, and left. He never camp back. No Willerman after him ever came back for many, many years.
Only a few months before Benjamin came to ransack the mansion, a new member of the Pack was born. He had beautiful, sleek black fur, and was named Tredayor. Tredayor was popular in the Pack, he was an exellent hunter, and helped bring down one of the last of the three Shetland ponies. It was truely a shame that Benjamin took away the other two, for they has served as a good food source for many years. The Pack roamed the land, prospering and growing in size. By the time Tredayor was an adult, the Pack had almost thirty members.
When he was old enough, Tredayor took Megayin, another black dog, as his mate. Tredayor had rosen up to second in command in the Pack, and was loved by all the members. Then the Possesion occured. The Possesion. Even the name sounds evil. No one knows how or why, but Tredayor became possessed by a demon. At first, only his behavior changed. He began to get angrier and more agressive, and physically abuse Pack members he didn't like. After a few months his appearance began to change, too. His eyes went from warm brown to radioactive yellow, and strange yellow shapes and runes appeared on him. Wings sprouted from his back, and his body shape changed from that of a dog to that of a fox.
A strange thing about the dogs from the Pack was that they were all solid colored. It was extremely rare for there to be a spotted or patched dog. Therefore, most of them were either light colored or dark colored. The demonic, dark Tredayor ended up fighting and killing the leader of the Pack. He took his best friend as second in command, and began his rule of tyranny. Because of the demon inside of him, Tredayor hated the light colored dogs, prefering the darker ones. He began to drive the lighter colored dogs out of the Pack, so only dark ones remained. The white, silver, pale gray, tan, cream, and light brown dogs started their own pack, that kept away from Tredayor's.
The two packs fought over territory and prey for months and months, and about a year after the Possession took place, Megayin bore Tredayor a son. The son had the same build of a fox as his father, and the same black fur. His eyes were yellow-green, and he had black wings. Unlike his father's many markings, the young puppy only had a single green bat marking on his upper right hind leg. Though he had a white chest, his father named him Shadow, because of their similar features.
Around the time Shadow was born, another puppy was born in the other pack. She was the daughter of the pack leader, and had gorgeous, soft, snow white fur, and deep blue eyes. She was named Nisa by her father. Though Nisa looked like some kind of fairy-tale creature, feminine and beautiful, she grew up to be her pack's best fighter, she had lean muscles underneath her soft fur, and a very strong and intelligent mind. It was no wonder that Shadow was attracted to her. Shadow grew up like a celebrity, he recieved fighting instruction by only the very best in the Pack, and it was the same with hunting. Shadow could truely have had any mate he wanted, many females loved him. But he didn't fall for a black, dark gray, or oak brown colored dog, he fell for one with soft white fur.
The first time Shadow met Nisa was at a meeting between the leaders of each pack. The leader brought thier mate, second in command, and first born son or daughter to a peaceful meeting where many things were discused. Only a few months old, Shadow thought Nisa was the most amazing creature in the world. He had only seen dark colored dogs prior to the meeting, and Nisa seemed like some kind of exotic angel to him. The two young puppies watched each other carefully as they sat across from each other next to their own mother. These meetings took place once a month, and Shadow ended up looking forward to the chance to see Nisa.
The first battle Shadow took part in was when he was only a year old. It had been in the middle of winter, so everything was white. This created a dangerous enviroment for the dark pack because they stood out so much in the snow. It had been early one morning whe a group of eight white dogs had snuck through the snow to where the dark pack was located, and attacked. Shadow, his father, and a few others led the angelic group away from the rest of the pack towards the lake where a fight broke out. At first, Shadow was fightning a large male; who was quickly defeated. When Shadow was getting ready to take a final swipe at the defeated creature, when he was knocked over by a force behind him. The other white dog raced away, and Shadow was left pined to the ground. Snow was falling heavily, and he could only make out the deep blue eyes of his attacker. Normally, Shadow would have just rolled out from under the other dog and continued the attack, but this was different. He stared into those blue eyes for what seemed like an eternity, mesmerized by their depths. His attacker stared back, blue eyes into green. "Shadow?" she whispered. The snow swirled around them, creating a winter wonderland. Shadow had no clue as to how long they stayed there, but after a while he realized the fighting dogs had left. They were alone. Nisa, (for of course that was who the other dog was), released him, stepping backwards into the snow. Shadow stood and faced the lithe female, his heart racing. The sound of fighting came back towards the lake again, and Nisa'a blue eyes turned hard as she leaped at him, once again fighting.
The battle ended up as a draw, neither side one. But Shadow always remembered that battle. Always. He was somewhat confused by his feelings toward Nisa, expecially because he knew the dangers that went along with loving someone from another pack. Shadows problems not only lied with a lovely white dog, but also inside his father's pack. Tredayor believed that his son had become old enough to help run the group of dark canines, but Shadow didn't want this. Shadow was a natural born leader, but he believed in equality and justice, unlike his coldblooded father.
When Nisa was one and a half years old, her father decided that it was time for her to take a mate and have puppies of her own. Nisa knew that if she did this, she would only be viewed as a mate and a mother, no longer her pack's strongest and bravest fighter. Besides, the one she loved lived in the other pack, not her own. But there was a dog in her own pack that loved her. His name was Shaff, a large, powerful, silver wolf. Nisa's father realized Shaff's attractions toward his daughter, and tried to urge her to become more partial to him. However, Nisa refused to switch over her feelings.
As time went on, Shadow found out about Nisa's problem. He would have helped her, but he was dealing with the same things in his own pack. His father wanted him to have puppies, but Shadow felt nothing towards the females in his pack, which only created more problems...
