I would like to adopt!
Number: 9

Name: Kingfisher
Species: Wolf
Personality: Kingfisher has a strange affinity for water, fish, and waterbirds, which makes him somewhat of an outcast in his pack, teased by many of the other members. He has few friends, but the ones he does have he treasures forever. He can be quiet and shy if you don't know him, but he totally opens up toward his friends, being outspoken, friendly, and creative. Kingfisher longs for others to understand him better, but no one really makes and effort to try. His only wish is to try his best, and be accepted. He is also intelligent, and is obsessed with learning about water, lakes, rain, etc. He values intelligence over strength.
Likes: His close friends, knowledge, being accepted, and he treasures his Kingfisher feather necklace (more about this below). Kingfisher doesn't just like, but
loves the water. He feels at home when he's in the water swimming. He also loves the rain, while most of the pack is inside their dens when it rains, Kingfisher can be found racing around outside in total rapture. He enjoys eating water birds opposed to the usual deer and squirrels. Strangely, he admires fish, because of their ability to stay underwater all of their lives and swim so well. However, he does enjoy eating them when he is able to catch them, which isn't often. He also likes fields and plains, "because when it's windy, he feels like he's swimming through air when he runs."
Dislikes: Kingfisher dislikes being in forests, because of the way that the trees confide him and trap him, he would rather be in fields and meadows, since they are somewhat like "lakes of air." He also dislikes the way the rest of the pack teases him about his necklace and unusual affinity for water. He gets upset when others tease his friends, he's very protective over them. Being the center of attention is also something Kingfisher dislikes.
Background: Kingfisher grew up in a large wolf pack in a leafy forest, surrounded by a lake on one side and rolling plains on the other. He was different from other wolves from the moment he was born. Unlike the normal grey, brown, and white fur of his packmates, he had, brown, tan, cream, and strange steely blue fur, the colors of the Kingfisher bird; which he was named after. He also had mismatched eyes, one blue and one green. On his side, he had a shape that looked somewhat like a fish. He might have been somewhat abnormal on the outside, but seemed even stranger on the inside to his packmates. Only a few days after his eyes had opened, he wandered away fro the camp to the lake, where he was found playing in the shallows. When his training began, his mentors discovered even more oddities. Kingfisher was an average fighter, he was somewhat small, but he was quick. His hunting skills were horrible when he had to catch rabbits, or work with several others to bring down a deer or moose. When he was sent out to hunt with several of the younger members, he brought back a waterbird and a large fish, while the others brought back squirells, rabbits, and small deer.
When he was a pup, his mother took him and his brother away from camp to show them important parts of their pack's territory, when Kingfisher happened upon a human necklace. It was made from woven yarn, and from it hung a Kingfisher's feather. Kingfisher begged to keep it, and wouldn't be quiet about it untill his mother finally put it around his neck. He never took it off again. As he grew up, he tried to learn everything about water, rain, and water creatures from the older pack members. Kingfisher loved to swim, he felt free and at home in the water with the fish and waterbirds for company.
Most of the members of the pack hated Kingfisher and teased him, he only made one or two friends while he was growning up. Another problem with Kingfisher was that he was always in his brother's shadow. His brother was popular with the pack, they all loved him. Kingfisher's brother was a superb hunter and fighter, and often bullied Kingfisher.
Kingfisher's friends helped him through those tough parts of his life, they admired him for his grace and talent in the water, and loved spending time with them because of his bright personality.
Note: I would really like to write a story about Kingfisher's life, and how he ends up being accepted by his pack. This would not be a character that just sits on a post in a forum. I've already started on my story about Warrior and Pylon (Pylon is the character I adopted last round), and I would love to get started on another one, too. Also, Atwood, if no one submits an application for #8, could you keep it up for another round? If I get Kingfisher I would like to have #8 as a character in the story, one of Kingfisher's close friends.
