The Buckskin developed a strong reputation as a sturdy working horse in the frontier of the western United States. Highly regarded by the cowboys of the early west, Buckskins were used for pack, harness, and saddle. It is said that Buckskin horses, those of tan or bronze coloring with black points, had the greatest endurance, the surest footing, the hardest hooves, and the greatest stamina. Although those in the old west were known to exaggerate, given a choice a cowboy would almost always choose the Buckskin or Dun horse.
Reason You Want It:
Compass Rose is just such a beautiful horse. I love her almost natural designs, and her blanket appaloosa markings are wonderful, and I am a sucker for appaloosas. Her long mane and tail show me a young horse, wil and free, but the small white line through both also makes me think she's more of an older, kind person. Her white blaze and snip on her face again bring a softness to her features. Overall, ahe's a perfect natural design.
Then there's the unnatural markings. The compass, or compass rose, which she was named after gives me ideas to stories, about where that compass could take her. The three blue stripes are so simple, but they intruige me. The bracelet on her hind leg interests me, but I do not know what it means right now. The feathers add another element of mystery. How did she get them? Why did she keep them? I just love how this design can be both natural and unnatural.

History:
I was born free.
From the moment I entered the mystical world I was as free as the wind. Never caught, always my own person. I could run with the cool summer breeze floating through my mane, my hooves galloping across the bare land, nothing to ever stop me. I was free.
But freedom is not forever.
I was caught by a native tribe, who believed my four white legs meant I was a gift from their gods. Their showered me with gifts of grass and other great treats. They painted on my brown and white fur strange markings that resembled trees on my flank, but on my front they painted a wonderful thing they called a Compass Rose. Apperently it could tell you which way to go, and one of the white men had traded with him for it. They thoght it would guide me to the heavens.
Soon they let me go, free once agin.
