Name [of pet]:Skyerunner
Nickname[s]: Runner
Gender [of pet]: Female ♀
Breed/Species [of pet]:Canine >> Wolf
Age:5 1/2 humans years; 38 canine years
Personality [of pet]:::Authorative::
Skyerunner, while not mean, is authorative. She's a born and skilled leader, and she deosn't hesitate to take charge. She will give wise orders, but she's not bossy. She believes that in order to be in the pack, you have to do something for the pack. She was chosen to be leader because she's the best that they know.
::Wise::
Skyerunner os rather plentiful in the wisdom department. She knows the right thing to do at the right time nine out of ten times that she does something. She knows all of the tricks of the trade, even despite her young age being an alpha. Often, the wolevs of her pack go to her for the best advice.
::Reasonable::
Skyerunner's reasonable skills are rather good, too. She allowed reasonable amounts of prey-eating per wolf, making sure that none takes too much. She gives reasonable punishments to naughty pups and apprentice and violating hunters and fighters. She isn't quick to anger, and even so, she'd never let her anger effect her reasoning.
::Kind::
Skyerunner is extremely kind. She's very sweet, and always had been, and her kindness isn't harshly affected by war or other things. She goes out of her way to make sure that others are okay before she does anything for herself. She's also very compassionate. She's enjoyable to be around and a great friend.
::Caring::
Skyerunner definitely has great care for her pack mates. From the weakest elder or newborn pup to the strongest fighter, Skyerunner is concerned about each and every one and has compassion on all of them when they're having troubles. She'll mourn if anyone dies or gets injured, and she rejoices with each apprenticed pup, each apprentice made a fighter or hunter, and each healed wolf.
::Strong::
Skyerunner is strong willed and strong physically. She would never give up a war or give up on another wolf. She believes in herself greatly, but she isn't cocky about it. She's very capable of pulling through in most any situation. She'll gladly get up each time she fails and try all over again, no matter the outcome.
Background/History [of pet]:In December, in the falling snow, a black and blue wolf with hints of grey carried a smaller version of herself in her mouth. Her pup. The mother was exhausted and heartbroken. She could no longer avoid the obvious thing at hand. She couldn't take care of this pup any longer. Not by herself. She neared a nice, cozy forest and placed the puppy in the snow. She shoveled the rest of the snow away from the young wolf, hoping the baby wasn't too cold. The puppy whined a bit, not knowing what was happening. Her eyes had hardly opened. The grown wolf came closer to the puppy, and it searched to suckle. She tenderly looked down at her daughter and began licking her fur to face the right way. Pulling away and standing up, the mother touched her nose to the pup's. "Goodbye, my Petunia," she whispered. She turned slowly, then ran away, never once looking back. She knew it would hurt her too badly. The young puppy, eyes opened in slits, was confused. She whined and yelped for her mother, but the she wolf was gone. This was the beginning of Skyerunner's life.
Not long before, Skyerunner's mother had mated with a handsome wolf, Adriach. She became pregnant, and then Adriach ran off. She hadn't been the true love of his life. This broke her heart. She carried the burden of pregnancy, and didn't know what would happen next. She knew that she couldn't keep this baby. She had her puppy mid-November, then, only a month later, she had to let the child go.
~~~
Little over a day after the pup had been deposited, the lead hunter of Nora Pack, Shaika came along. Shaika was mateless and gruff, and far more interested in finding a deer or some other prey than a wimpering puppy. Lo and behold, her luck have out today, and what she least wanted or expected was exactly what she found. She'd had a bit of pity on the pup, a feeling that hardly ever crossed Shaika's heart. She knew that even in the winter, when prey was short, the pack could use another pup. This puppy was too helpless to fend for itself, and she decided to take it in. Having taken it back to camp and gotten strange looks shot at her, she headed straight for the alpha's den. She scratched at the ground, a hard task to do with the snow. Leva, the alpha, having heard Shaika, called out, "Who is it?"
"Shaika, your huntress," responded Shaika, a snow flake landing on her muzzle. Her voice was muffled due to the pup that she was carrying in her mouth.
There was a pause. Then, speaking. "Ahh... Shaika," said first the voice. "Come in."
Shaika slowly stepped in, dropped the pup, and bowed her head.
"Speak," said Leva, quite the curious one about the puppy brought to her.
"I was out hunting today when I came across this abandoned pup. The mother's scent is stale and hidden. She sees about a month or so old," Shaika explained.
"Hmmm..." said Leva, as she pondered at the situation. "We'll need someone to care for her," she said, staring expectantly at Shaika. Shaika stood.
"Certainly you don't expect me to care for her!" she exclaimed, lacking all respect. Leva's eyes burned with hostility for a moment, and Shaika sat back down. Leva's eyes returned to normal.
"No, of course not," she said. "You have your duties to tend to." Quietly, she turned around. "Tell Ava she's wanted."
~~~
Now Ava was a queen that was ready to return to her normal rank of fighter. Her own litter of pups had just been apprenticed. She still had a bit of milk to spare, and would be the ideal care taker of the pup considering that her litter had been the most recent. When Shaika, relieved to get away from Leva, fetched Ava, the kind she-wolf had no idea what to expect. She walked into Leva's den with her eyes on the floor. She dipped her head slowly. Then, Leva spoke. "Ava," she said. "Shaika has found a lone pup within out territory. Have you any milk to share?" Ava looked up, terribly surprised. If there was anything that she had been expecting, certainly it hadn't been this. "Of course," she said, gaving no other answer for her alpha. "Good," said Leva. "Now mind you, you must never tell her that she isn't your own. Not until she is old enough." Ava dipped her head again, then nodded. "I understand," she said without questioning. She took the pup handed to her up in her mouth. "You may go," said Leva before Ava turned and left. She quickly headed off to tell her mate.
Bajo looked down at the squirming pup. He was honored that his Ava had been chosen to care for the pup, but he hoped that she would still have the love left for their own pups. "Have you named her yet?" asked Bajo. "No," said Ava, allowing the pup to suckle. "But I believe I have the perfect name for her," she finished with some consideration. "What?" asked Bajo. "Skyerunner," said Ava. She curled her tail around the pup to keep it warm. "Her name is Skyerunner."
~~~
It took a little while, but Bajo did warm up to Skyerunner. He realized how boring life woulf have been after their puppies were apprenticed if it hadn't been for Skyerunner. "Runner, come here!" he called. Runner had been his name for her for a long time. The puppy, now much larger, and eating normal prey, ran towards him. "Yes, father?" she cluelessly asked. The first few times that she had called him father, he'd flinched noticeably. One day she'd have to find out the truth. And then what? "I'm gonna take you out for a scope of the land," he replied. She looked at him seriously. "Won't Leva have your pelt if you don't do your duties?" she scolded. He laughed and tackled her. "No, silly," he said. "I went on patrol this morning," he explained. "Okkaaayy..." said Skyerunner, not sure whether or not to believe him. Ava watched from the doorway of the den. A sad smile crossed her face. The pup's wild spirit would be crushed when she figured out the truth. And though Ava hadn't planned to tell her for a long time still, her plans were to be ruined, and by a very shady figure.
"Psssttt... Skyerunner," said a male's voice from the shadows. Skyerunner wandered towards the voice, expecting Bajo. The voice, however, didn't sound like his, and she wondered if it was one of his friends. Instead, the wolf she found herself looking up at was a dark, tall, and quite creepy male with black and red pelt colors. She'd seen him around camp only once, and she struggled to remember his name. "Taiko?" she squeaked. "Yes," he chuckled, squinting and giving himself an evil appearance. "Wh - what do you want?" asked Skyerunner, stepping back. He laughed. "I want you to listen. Only that." She stared at him, quiet, taught to always obey. "Good, good. Now then. One with it," he announced that he would now be saying the important stuff. "You think that you know everything about Ava and Bajo, don't you?" he asked. "Well... I suppose not everything. But, Ava, my mum, her favorite color is pink and she doesn't like it when I'm late so I should be going now..." Skyerunner rambled on. "Hah," he pretended to laugh. "Your... 'mum'? Hardly," he said. "Ava and Bajo aren't your parents! You're just a stray," he finished menacingly, spitting out the last word. Skyerunner's heart stopped. 'No! No!' she exclaimed with fright in her head. "I don't believe you!" she yelled over her shoulder, running away. "Well?" hesitated Taiko. "Believe it!" he yelled, cackling loudly.
A very tired and panting Skyerunner raced into the den. "Oh, honey!" exclaimed Ava, worried. She's never seen Skyerunner rush into the nursery so quickly before. "Have a seat," she said, pointing with her tail towards Skyerunner's bed. Wearily, Skyerunner padded over to her bed. She plopped down just as Bajo entered the room. "Oh," he said, seeing Runner so down. "What's wrong?" he asked, coming into the entrance and circling to sit by his mate. Skyerunner looked down at her paws. "I -I'm sure it's just... nothing," she said, not sounding like she really meant it. Ava shot Bajo a look full of concern for the pup. He tried his best to press on. "Runner," he said calmly. "You know you can tell me anything," he guaranteed her. Skyerunner gave a weak attempt at a laugh. "It's silly really. Taiko said that you guys weren't telling the truth. He said that, that you were umm... not my real parents. He's lying, right?" she asked, standing up. "Yes!" exclaimed Bajo a bit too quickly. Ava, however, couldn't stand to lie to the little pup any longer. Looking down shamefully, she muttered, "No." "Mom?" asked Skyerunner. "Ava," said Bajo through clenched teeth. But it ws too late. "No, she said again as Skyerunner took off, running into the endless woods. Bajo looked at Ava with fury. Anger welled up in him. "Runner!" he called, but it was too late. She was gone.
~~~
Skyerunner dashed through the woods. She ran quickly, ignoring everything in her path. At this point, she wasn't sure what she was running from. Life? No. The truth? Perhaps that was it. But deep inside, even as a little pup, she knew that she could run, but never hide from the truth. She shivered in the cold wind and ran directly into a thorn bush. "Ow!" she creid out. She struggled out of it, leaving black, black, and grey clumps of her fur behind in the thorns. Her pelt and body prickled with the pain of thorns. She limped a tad and made it to a rock. She layed down in the partially melted snow, cold as ever, and pulled the needle out of her legs and paw pads with her teeth. She went to bed that night with an aching and freezing body and a sore tongue.
~~~
News traveled very quickly in the camp of Nora Pack, and by sun rise, Bajo was still mad at Ava, and it had reached Leva that 'Ava had blown Skyerunner's secret and the pup had run away'. Leva summoned to see Ava in her den immediately. "Leva," said Ava, dipping her head. In her mind, she was greatly grieving the loss of her beloved Skyerunner. Leva looked down from her mount at Ava in pure fury. "I trusted you. Why did I trust you!?" she exclaimed. "But I trusted you, to not tell until she was ready! Perhaps she was never going to be ready! Did you think about that? Yet you told her now?" she asked. "With all due respect," said Ava. "I beg to differ. I understand your concern, but it was Taiko who has told her. Not I." Leva nearly spat at the thought that her worthy Beta would do such a thing, but even so, she summoned to see him immediately as well.
~~~
Skyerunner woke and stretched with the sun. It was a beautiful, warm day for the late winter, though the snow still covered she ground. She shook it out of her pelt. She was in a great mood. This, of course, only lasted until she remembered the events of he night before. She yawned and walked in circles, more of a pace, thinking of what to do. Her small paws ached a tad for the night before's running and needles and her stomach growled as she thought of food. In all honesty, though, what she noticed most wasn't the lack of food or shaman to heal her paws. It was the lack of Ava and Bajo. If Ava were there, she'd stroke her fur with her tongue and tell her tales of being a fighter. If Bajo were there, he'd catch her some prey, perhaps teach her to hunt for herself. He'd race her through the woods and explain things about the trees and the plants. Even if they weren't exactly her real parents, they still loved her a whole lot. Perhaps that was what really mattered. It was Taiko that she hated, not them. He ruined her happiness and caused her the run-a-way tortorous night. She planned to go back to Nora, but not before she caught herself, her alpha, and her parents, whom she now once again felt comfortable calling her parents some prey. Just to prove that she could.
~~~
Taiko stood his ground and looked at Leva with pure innocence in his eyes. "Leva," he bowed his head. "Do you honestly think that I would betray that sort of secret to an innocent young pup? I, your Beta? It's not my place to, and I won't be blamed for it," he finished. His speech sounded so good to his own ears that he found himself fighting the urge to bow. Leva was rather convinced, but she believed in giving Ava more of a "fair chance" at justice. "All right then," she said, turning to face them merely seconds after Taiko finished mouthing 'flea bag' to Ava. "I know a solution to this problem." Both Taiko and Ava looked convincingly relieved by this proclamation. But what she said next was a pure shocker. "Skyerunner," she announced. "will come back. She's been raised right, and I'm convinced that she'll soon have found herself coming home. Therefore, when she comes back, I'll simply let her decide who really broke her heart." She smiled a large smile at how brilliant and simple it was. And as that smile crossed Leva's face, and look of pure terror and dread crossed Taiko's. He could only hope that the pup was so mad at Ava and Bajo that she would deny that it was him.
~~~
Not too long later, Skyerunner slipped into the camp's back entrance. She wanted the first people to see her to be Ava and Bajo, so that they would know that she still loved them dearly. This plan, however, was ruined when she entered the camp and was met by Leva. She had no idea how Leva knew to wait for her there, but she dare not question either. Instead, she diped her head and was invited into Leva's den. After walking their, she dropped and hare at Leva's feet and Leva looked rather impressed. "Thank you," she said, walking away. "Stay here," she instructed. Skyerunner dare not disobey, and dipped her head. Her discipline was overwhelmed, however, with the desire to expore, and finally Runner gave in and wandered the nice den. By the time that Leva had returned with Taiko and Ava both, Skyerunner had returned to her sitting position. "Ava!" she exclaimed, not sure if she could call her mom or not. She didn't want to offend Ava, and it didn't feel completely right. "Mom," reassured Ava. "I'm Mom." Skyerunner ran towards her, and it drew tears to Ava's eyes. The moment, however, was broken when Leva cleared her throat. "Skyerunner," she said loudly. "Who was it that told you this truth?" she asked. It didn't even matter anymore, as long as Runner was back, but Leva wanted to know who was lying to her. That was what bothered her most. Runner stared pointedly at Taiko and growled. "It was he," said Skyerunner softly. Leva growled at Taiko, her voice rising and burning in her throat and chest. "You've crossed a line where you are not welcome. Leave me now. Only come back when you know your real place." She turned with that, and Taiko dashed off. She didn't bother to apologize to Ava, hating to admit that she was wrong. However, she did shoot her an apologetic look, and Ava nodded. She turned her attention then to Skyerunner. "Come on now, Skyerunner," she said to the young wolf. "Bajo will be so happy to see you then. Back to the nursery." But this time, Leva broke into the conversation. "I don't believe that's neccessary. Skyerunner's ready to be apprenticed." She had hardly gotten the words out when Ava began licking Runner's fur frantically to face the right direction. Skyerunner puffed her chest out with pride as Leva went to call the pack for a meeting.
~~~
Skyerunner was very happy to finally be apprenticed. She chose that she would walk on the path of a warrior, like Ava and Bajo had. Ava's stories of patrols and battles intrigued Runner, and she wanted more than anything to do those sort of things for herself. She would live for her pack, and die for it as well. A suitable fighter was chosen to be her mentor, a handsome wolf by the name of Azanu. He taught her the basic fighting skills and took her to the arena daily. She was soon one of the best fighter apprentices in the pack. She started going on patrols and took part in one small attack on the Pack of Thunder in the middle of the night. After many months passed, once again, Leva saw satisfaction in her. Beaming with pride, Skyerunner was made a fighter.
After being a fighter for a while, Taiko died. Skyerunner was very happy to have gotten rid of him, even though she would never wish death on any wolf. Something possessed Leva to choose Skyerunner as the new Beta, in place of the killed-in-battle Taiko. Some of the pack protested that such a young fighter was chosen, but Skyerunner was honored to be chosen, and she tried harder than her very best.
Leva became aged, and the pack was grieved, upset that their trustworthy alpha was soon going to be leaving them. She grew sick, and there was nothing that the shaman nor her apprentice could do. In wasn't in their paws to save her. And so, she passed on.
Skyerunner became alpha the night that Leva left them, and took up the responsibility. She chose her Beta wisely. Because she was so young herself, she'd need a middle-aged fighter for her Beta. One that would not soon die after her own death. Seeing as Azanu still had a lot of life in him, she wisely chose her Beta.
Now she rules Nora Pack, not with an iron fist, but with the knowledge and care of an alpha.
Use [for pet]:I think that Skyerunner is just such a beautiful girl. :'D She's such a wonderful wolf, and she deserves more than a character adoption agency kennel. I'd love to give her her own post on my character thread. ^^ She'd be quite fun to roleplay, and I'd love to spoil her. <3
Her pack (Nora Pack)
Skyerunner is certainly filled with love and concern for her pack. It's her whole life and almost all of her personality. It's what makes her herself. She loves how it's run and how organized and close they are all to each other. She's definitely happy and honored to be the alpha of Nora Pack. She also feels very safe and loved in her pack, and she couldn't imagine any other life for herself.
Puppies
Puppies are one of Runner's favorite things. She visit each litter quite often, noting progress and predicting shamans, fighters, and hunters. She's brought back to her childhood as well, seeing their wriggling bodies and smelling their milk scent. Once they're old enough to play and communicate, she loves to play around with them and watch them tussle with each other. Two weeks before they're apprenticed, she likes to take them out for a grand tour of the area. It's funny to watch them pounce on leaves and chase squirrels in the excitement.
Ava & Bajo
Even though hey led her to believe that she was their own pup, Skyerunner loves them and knows that they eventually would have told her the trouth. They meant her no harm, and even though it took her a while to, she realizes that. They gave her a rather nice childhood and she got more than she could have had without them.
Peace
Skyerunner loves peace in both ways. Silence, and no war. She makes sure that her fighters and hunters don't cross borders and keep their apprentices under control, and she won't stand for them to pick fights with the bordering packs, Sova Pack, and Pack of Thunder. She also likes silence and calmness, though sometimes the quiet makes her feel sad and empty.
Forgiveness
Skyerunner is a stickler for forgiveness. She has a strong belief in it, and she lives by it. If it weren't for her foing so, she'd never have returned from the wilderness, and she wouldn't love Ava and Bajo any longer. But she does, and she'd learned to live past things.
Dislikes
Hatred
Skyerunner really doesn't like a hatred soul. She can't stand the word hate, or haters. It's just not right. Why not hold peace? Hating is pointless, becvause whoever you hate is just one more person that doesn't like you either.
Taiko
Taiko is the one exception to Skyerunner's no-hate policy. She absolutely despises him, and cannot in any way express her feelings towards him. He greatly disturbed her life and happiness, and it seemed likely that he would betray the pack. It's certainly a good thing that he didn't live to be an alpha.
War
Wars are treacherous and useless. Skyerunner dislikes them deeply. It is very rare that she would call and ambush on another pack or joyfully start a fight. Wars cause unneccessary slaughters and sad deaths. They cause painful wounds, broken limbs, and unhappy wolves. War is a rather torturous thing, and Skyerunner will never live to love it.
Disloyalty
Disloyalty is stupidity. Skyerunner hates it.There is no point to being in a pack if you only plan to betray it. She has no room for traitors in her pack.
Humans
Naturally, Skyerunner doesn't care much for humans. They're very disruptive of a wolf's life and they're known to try to capture wolves. They're very reckless and loud when they come to the forest, and they've also been known to start fires. Because humans are bigger than wolves, Skyerunner often struggles to protect her pack from them.
