Background: Strummer was born in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, where they specifically breed the Aidis to be the loyal protectors of their owners. The young puppy, known as Kahil at the time, was an energetic ball of love. Kahil was to be sold in Casablanca in two weeks, as he had finally matured to his strapping young adult phase. With a bounce in his step and a smile on his face, he excitedly went with the breeder to the Casablancan market to go to his new family.
Little did he know, he would be miserable with this new family, a rich family who lived in the most expensive part of Casablanca, where there was barely any place for a walk, much less a hike through the mountains. The stuck-up children adored Kahil, but he never really bonded with the children. He snuck out one night, and never looked back.
He found his way into the mountains, where he found a place to stay for the night, a shed near a house on a small hill. The next morning, he awoke to the sound of the shed door opening, where a tall teenage boy stood in the doorway.
The boy approached the dog carefully, and too his surprise, Kahil lifted his head and licked the boy's hand. He slowly lifted the young dog up, and carried him to the house. The teenager set the dog down in the kitchen, where his mother and his two sisters were doing the dishes.
"Mum, I found this dog in the shed." He said, sitting down on a stool at the breakfast bar.
"A puppy!" One of the girls said, running to Kahil, who obediently rolled over on his back.
"What breed is he?" The mother said, not looking up from the dishes.
"He looks like an Aidi, the kind that they sell at the market as protectors." The boy said, looking down at his sister and the dog.
"Well, we've needed a companion dog, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but you can keep him, as long as you let your sisters name him." The mother said, glancing at the dog and her daughter.
"I wanna name him Strummer!"
And the name and his new family stuck. Strummer was home.
