I think there's only a limit for how many you can try out for at a time... Which is 2.
I'm pretty sure you can adopt, say, 2 one week, then 2 another week. :3

Personality: Melancholia’s personality is somewhat different than her host. Decisive, critical, a desire for blood to fall, Melancholia is not someone to want to get into a fight with. Mixed with her love of superiority and belief in Social Darwinism, the strong will survive as the weak die, she will kill you without a second thought. You are just something that needs to be killed anyway…
She loves to be sarcastic, beliving it better to be sassy than submissive. In other words, she has a sharp tounge. But, she also has a hidden side she doesn't like to show others, it can be considered a weakness. It is her pride. She never wants to seem weak and thus, ironicly that is her weakness. This overdriving personality can also get her into fights that makes her want to win the fight because of the pride. Her personality is a round about one of strengths and weakness as the same thing.
Likes: Difference, blood, and the call of battle. Sinning is a pastime for the demon like wolf.
Dislikes: She hates indifference and feels that difference is the only thing that matters, it shows that each is special and if one is weak or not.
Background: Melancholia has a confusing background to say the least… But to begin…

There once was a wolf named Rosoku. When she was born, the stars foretold of great power she would bring, and she was made a top ranking wolf in her pack, Cloksism. As she grew, she was shown to have high physical performance. From speed to strength, she crawled up the ranks in the hunting group of the pack, till she was the top hunter. But that was till the day came when Rosoku was on a hunt and came across a bear that wounded her. From that day on she was paralyzed in the legs, unable to hunt, a burden to the pack. And on that same day, she tried to commit suicide.
As she lay dieing, a soul came to her. A wolf in blue as dark as the night and glowing marks like the stars and moon. The soul merged with the dieing wolf and gave her life. It froze her time and made her life stay at a stand still, to never grow past that age and never die. The soul wolf in turn gained a body from Rosoku, living within her. That soul was named Melancholia.
Rosoku has the power to change into Melancholia at will, in what is called a released form. Their minds are connected, allowing Rosoku to be in tone with Melancholia when she uses her body.
As Melancholia, Rosoku has a new body, without being paralyzed. She also has supernatural powers. Powers that can distort the space within an area and more. She also has a geass in her right eye, that allows her to give others horrible delusions. With the powers, Rosoku was able to gain a new spot in her pack as the shaman. But it is shown that the more Rosoku uses the powers, the more she begins to grow blind in her geass eye. That can be trouble, because the blindness can spread to both eyes…

As for Melancholia in this whole relationship, it can be shown in how the wolf was created. Born from a human named Higurashi, the girl’s sins gave birth to the soul. When she fused with Rosoku, it can be said that the being came to life. And yet, it is also dead… for it was given a body when Rosoku died. What?!

This is where the Rosoku/Melancholia paradox comes into play.
Rosoku was dieing as Melancholia, a dead, never living, soul came to her and they fused. But, Melancholia was born from Rosoku dieing. And yet, at the same time, Rosoku’s time stopped to keep her in a frozen state of near death. Or did she already die before Melancholia came to her? Does this make Melancholia alive now or is she still dead? Does that mean that Rosoku is dead too or alive still? Is Melancholia’s presence inside Rosoku keeping her alive as a corpse?
How can we be sure… but the point is that they are here now and it is unknown wither you could kill them if you get into a battle. That is their strength… to confuse you.

The ribbons on her legs mean, Lunarine and Soralifine.
Her claws have been known to cut though steel.
She is unaffected by the cold but is very sensitive to heat.
Each glowing spot, holds a sin that Higurashi had commited.

A girl of 17, too young to be killed.
But she was mistake,
needed to be erased by another that sinned.
And so, she died at the hands of her best friend.
But, do the sins die when the body dies?
A wolf of blue and who's spots glowed.
This is what the sins came together to create.
And this turned said wolf's,
blood as black as the 13th hour.

A parasite in cold fur.
She connected herself to a wolf.
It was easy to corrupt the deing wolf,
twisting until the wolf forgot herself and her heart.
The wolf's nightmare began,
as did the parasite's dream.
