I love this design. I honestly didn't mean for him to be insane, but it was really fun to write.
Backstory is fail. >.<
I would like to adopt!

Name: Solomon (Solo)
Species: Arabian wolf (Canis Lupus Arabs)
Personality: Solo always appears to be restless, as if perhaps he's searching for something that he knows he'll never be able to find. This search has caused him to dig countless holes strewn across the Arabian desert. His one prize hangs silently on the string around his neck, the skull of his brother, Terra.
The skull has brought him no comfort though. He appears fearful of it, often shaking it from his neck and backing away. Often screaming at it,"Tell me where his bones are! What did you do with them?" He believes the skull is home to the spirit that killed his brother years ago. Despite this, he always picks up the necklace again and puts it around his neck. Cursed or not, it's the last memory of his brother he has left.
Even when the spirit isn't cursing the skull, it dominates his thoughts. It taunts him, saying that he'll be next if he can't find the bones. These bones, he claims, were scattered by the spirit after Terra was killed. If he can find them then the spirit will revive Terra and leave Solo in peace.
If not well...he doesn't like to think about that one.
This spirit is only a figment of his imagination and he knows this, but thoughts of this creature dominate his thoughts, allowing him to think of nothing else. he was raised to believe in spirits, with his mother being a shaman, and when Terra was killed the shock of it caused him to believe that an evil spirit caused it. Living alone in a cave certainly did nothing to help this problem.
On the rare occasions that the "spirit" leaves his thoughts, Solo can manage to stay at least somewhat sane. During these times he seems calmer and will stop searching for bones, but remains edgy and fearful. At any second it could come back, but he never knows when.
Of course, since the spirit is only his imagination he can keep it out of his thoughts so long as he doesn't actually think about it. On rare occasions he can go days or even weeks without anything happening. After a certain point the fear vanishes and is pushed to the back of his mind. He then becomes a much calmer, gentler creature. This is the Solo most wolves in the area know. He works as a healer for near by wolf packs. And though this only lasts a very short time, he is said to be able to cure almost any disease with the potions he creates.
This is the real Solo, the wolf he would've been if it wasn't for Terra, but of course all good things must come to an end. Anything, a pup with a slight resemblance to Terra, death, or even just a bone can send him right back into the cycle.
Likes: Being such a troubled young wolf, it's often hard to make him happy even without the spirit to dominate his thoughts.
One of the few things that does make him happy is silence. It's rarely silent in his mind, with the spirit threatening him and telling him to find the bones all the time. Complete silence is a rare event for him, and he enjoys every minute of it.
There's also his necklace, the one with Terra's skull and two remaining bones on it. While he is terrified of it and believes that it's the home of the spirit, it's also the last memory of his brother. The necklace reminds him that he has to find the bones, and often it's the only thing that keeps him going.
Dislikes: He hates the spirit. Being imaginary doesn't make it any less scary or menacing to him. To Solo it's completely real, in his mind this spirit is what killed his brother.
Background (Optional, but it gives you a better shot) If it wasn't for his mother, Solo would've likely been a completely normal wolf, not the confused paranoid creature plagued by thoughts of an imaginary spirit.
Belle wasn't a completely sane wolf herself, but I guess living your whole life alone would do that to you. Like solo she believed strongly in spirits. Not just the evil spirit that Solo so strongly believes in, but all kinds of spirits. Ghosts of the dead, nature spirits, and various other things like that. While she was revered as a healer and a shaman, like Solo she was thought of as insane and few dared to aproach her cave.
Though she had some odd beleifs, Belle was a very good mother. She taught her two pups everything she knew about healing, hoping that one day they'd take after her and become healers themselves. Solo did, but Terra never really got the chance.
The reason for Terra's death was never decided. Solo simply woke up one day to the smell of smoke and burnt flesh. Assuming it was another one of his mother's messed up sacrifices and that the burnt flesh was simply a rabbit, he left the cave to go hunting as usual. When he returned Terra and belle were bith nowhere to be found. Only a small fire with a skull and two bones laying on top of a pile of ashes.
Along with that, a raven.
Perched on top of the small skull, it squacked once before flapping away, leaving Solo alone in the cave. Having no one to ask,and nothing to explain this, Solo basically went insane. Sitting there at the entrance of the cave was the same raven that was sitting on the skull earlier.
Solo growled at it, "Where's my family?!" He wasn't expecting an answer from the bird, he only wished to scare it off.
Instead of leaving the bird smirked, "Don't worry about your mother. She's fine, but she probably won't be returning anytime soon. As for your brother, well..." He glanced the the bones and the fire, "You can see that one for your self."
"Where are the rest of the bones?" Solo growled. "There's only a skull here."
The raven shrugged. "Scattered around the desert. Tell ya what, if you find them all then I'll bring your brother back. You seem pretty fond of him."
"You killed him? Show me where his bones are!" Solo roared, stepping closer to the raven.
"I told you already. Have fun finding them, because if you don't you'll be next." It squawked, ruffling it's feathers.
Solo laughed, "You're a bird. How the heck are you supposed to kill me?"
"Maybe I'm not a bird." it hissed, suddenly turning into a strange purpleish colored puff of smoke, somewhat resembling a bird in it's shape. It rushed towards Solo's head, breaking apart and slipping in, taking control of his thoughts.
Maybe I'm a spirit. You know, like your mother beleived in? And to think you two would laugh at her whe she spoke ofthem. Oh how dumb you must feel now. Something from within his mind said.
"Shut up." he muttered, threading the skull and bones onto a string. He rubbed his paws in the ashes of the fire and rubbed patterns on his pelt, a stripe down his side and shoulders and some spots between it. "Look familiar?" He asked, twitching his tail. "Terra had these markings you know. At least I can keep that part of him alive."
He paused, dipping a claw in the mud at the bottom of the cave. On his fore head he painted a smal symbol, one he remembered his mother saying meant earth, just like Terra.
And with that he set out into the desert, desperatley searching for the bones of his brother.
