Use [for pet]: I think that the mercat is a very unique and one-of-a-kind species. There is absolutely no doubt in the world that I would find room for her in my snuggly character family and thread.

The idea alone of her is amazing, and she deserves to be displayed. I'll prize her and show her off, and I'll definitely be adding her to my characters at the SCAA roleplay should I be chosen to adopt her.

I appreciate the chance, because I think that she'd be a wonderful addition to my most prized online posessions. :3

Under one magical sunset, two creatures bounded toward the mountains, raising their hocks,
One young and one old, a bear and her cub walked over the mountaintops.
The young cub looked at it's spectacled mother and wondered,
"Where are my spectacles?", he pondered.

He did not know that he said this out loud,
and his mother looked down, saying,
"Little One, you are perfect the way you are."

Use

Well, Braith will be my first non canine or equine character, so much love given to him will be ensued. I don't expect to use him in a RP due to his rather questionable colourings, but I do plan on giving him art and a spot in my character thread. After cleaning out my charrie thread, I have left space for this big boy right here, and I would be hounoured to add him into my charrie family. ^^

Why the scarf?
Being a Andean bear, born and raised in South America where temperatures are normally warmer, being exported to Canada was a bit harsh for him. The bears in his new territory didn't know what to do with him, a bear that didn't like the cold, so they found a grey and blue scarf in a nearby trash can. It was torn a bit and has blood stains all over it, but the lead bear of the territory, Ursula, knew the cub would be a hard-working, brave bear. She decided a prince like him needed a clean scarf -- so she cleaned it in the nearby river, and the scarf became his.

His scarf is very much like his security blanket. Even in summer, his scarf is nearby, wheather on his neck on near his den.
Sunshine
Since he was born in the sun of the Andes, it has always been a friend. In the forests he is protected it from it's harmful rays. But it's nice to give light and jt's pretty when it streams through the trees.
Rain
Fills the streams, feeds the plants, cools off the air, brings more prey to his territory. Though, it makes the ground really soggy...
Trees
What's not to love? He likes to climb in them, use them as shade, sleep in them, eats them, etc.
Bark & Roots
Fiber is good, and when there's nothing left to eat, then there's his food.

(( Intensive & Uncaring ))
Quite frankly, Catahecassa couldn't really care less about others' feelings. Got a problem with something he said? Too bad, he won't care in the slightest. He's rather reckless with what he says, often offending or hurting the feelings of others. He doesn't mind making enemies either, he simply does not care; about them, or their butt hurt feelings. The only someone he could even fathom to care about is Nizhoni, who he has a little crush on. He cares so much about what she thinks of him, it's almost silly. Additionally, he is quiet insensitive to emotional and physical pain, being able to withstand a great amount of either before reaching his breaking point.
(( Quiet & Observing ))
Catahecassa rarely ever speaks, purely because he never really feels the need to that often. Also, he's just not very talkative and has a hard time finding the right words to say, especially when he's around Nizhoni. He'd much rather sit back and observe things than take action. He's quite content to watch and wait, although sometimes he may lose vital opportunities by waiting too long. He pays very close attention to detail, and even if one tiny detail seems off, he will know right away. He's also quite aware of his surroundings at all time, and rarely will a threat or major event go unnoticed by him.
(( Intelligent & Profound ))
Catahecassa is extremely intelligent, he knows information beyond his years. He uses his intelligence to his advantage, using it to outsmart opponents and make crucial decisions for the herd. He thinks every choice he has to make very, very thoroughly to make certain that he is making the best possible decision. He has great intellectual depth and insight, being able to dig deeper and find the greater meaning of many things. He's also awfully hard to fully understand since it is often difficult to see the reason behind the choices he makes. This could also be due to his lack of communication and talking, which leaves a few loose ends of what's going through his head.
(( Sophisticated & Polite ))
Catahecassa tends to be rather sophisticated with the way he speaks and acts. He refuses to do anything that could even possibly humiliate him or something he finds to be degrading. He takes pride in his appearance and his first impression, which sometimes to takes way too seriously. He's incredibly polite though, and would never intentionally do or say anything to offend anyone in any way, he just happens to always say the wrong things. He also has a pretty hard time saying "No" to those who are in need of favors, which may sometimes get him into trouble.
(( Judgmental & Arrogant ))
Catahecassa is rather quick to judge others, rarely ever giving them a second chance to prove themselves. Due to this, he tends to be a harsh leader, who doesn't ever let anything slide. Well, almost everything. If the offender happens to be Nizhoni, he may let a few things slip here and there, but he keeps that a secret. He is also very quick to decide if he likes someone or not just from first impressions. Due to his show horse background, he likes to think that his skills are superior to everyone's and he won't for a minute let another think that they are somehow better than him.
(( Dark & Somber ))
Catahecassa never fails to be completely serious at all times. You would never see him cracking jokes or playing pranks on some unsuspecting herd member. He's extremely serious about his duty to the herd and the job that he had chosen to take. He also has no sense of humor and he seldom laughs. He takes everything very seriously and a sarcastic joke would most likely make him awfully angry at you than getting him to laugh. He has a tendency to be a bit dark and gloomy, and he always seems to be rather pessimistic about sticky situations and difficult periods of time.

[[ Background/History ]]

A dark, dusty bay stallion grazed alone in an empty field, the only figure visible in that lonely pasture. A thin veil of fog covered the damp ground, sending coolness into the early morning air. He snorted discontentedly, it was awfully dull in this place. He shook out his onyx black mane before he began lazily roaming the pasture for something interesting to do. Luckily, it was exactly his thirtieth day staying isolated in that USDA-approved facility, or whatever they called it. The very next day, he would be shipped out of Latvia to the United States, Kentucky to be exact. This stallion in particular was a Latvian Riding Horse, one of Latvia's finest ever bred. He went by Miervaldis, his show name completely forgotten due to lack of participating in horse shows. He was destined to be sent to a prestigious and widely known horse farm located right in Lexington, Kentucky, to be used as a competitive jumping and dressage horse. Now, Miervaldis wasn't entirely sure he wanted to be a show horse, he much preferred roaming the open pastures and living a life of leisure. He had no choice though, he couldn't state his opinion on the matter to the humans as they couldn't even begin to comprehend what he was trying to tell them before he was sent to the isolation facility. He struck the ground violently with a single polished hoof, angered that he would have to be forced to compete in a strange new place.

Around midday I was dragged into the stables that were on the campus of the isolated horse farm that they were keeping me in before I was to be flown over to the United States. I snorted, rather irritated with all those tests and prep work that I had to go through for this transportation to happen. So much moving around, so much boredom, and so many stupid needles being poked into my body for blood work. I quite impatiently stood cross-tied onto the grooming station located in the main aisle of the stables. The vet was pulling out several devices and needles needed to run the proper tests, which I was not very enthusiastic about. Her thin, cold fingers danced across my skin, finding the correct places to insert those dreadful and rather sharp looking needles into my body.

Once the blood work and tests were over, my coiled up muscles relaxed and I sighed with immense relief. I absolutely hated needles, ever since I was a strapping young colt, but I had to unfortunately put up with them countless times. The vet dismissed us, telling my owner that she would get the results to them as soon as possible. The tall, strawberry blonde woman, my owner's wife, who I had always rather liked untied me from the grooming station and clipped a tattered green lead rope onto my equally as tattered harness. She lead me down the dust ridden aisle and into the stall with a sign that read "Miervaldis" in fancy script letters. I quietly munched on some alfalfa hay while my owners left the stables, leaving me to think in peace. I wondered what my new owners would be like in Kentucky...

After a long trip to the airport in the rickety trailer that I knew oh so well, I was lead to a quarantine area, which seemed like it would be awfully dull. My owner and his family said their goodbyes to me as I nuzzled each and every one of them for the final time. They all left silently, leaving me alone for what I would later know to be the longest five hours of my life. Soon enough though, I was loaded into an approved and inspected container, as they called it, and a surly looking man with thick dark brown hair entered the container with me. He didn't look so pleased to be here, a grumpy look upon his thin, unshaven face. The flight took nearly forever, well, at least in my mind it did. It was a bit awkward too, as the man didn't even say anything, just stared at the barren walls. I spent most of my time pawing at the shiny clean floor with my hooves and glaring at the extremely quite man with my sky blue eyes. When I was finally unloaded from the plane though, I was immediately greeted by a rather ecstatic looking redhead woman with freckles splattered all across her face. Her deep blue eyes sparkled with excitement, I decided that I might actually like her, but I still wasn't too sure.

I stood alone once more in the vast wild plains of Kentucky, patches of tall, dry grass tickling at my legs. The night sky was filled to the brim with shining stars, a great difference from the view of the sky in the big city. I had run away from the horse farm I used to live at, deciding that a show and competitive life wasn't the life for me. It broke my heart to leave Sarah, my red haired owner whom I had grown to love, but she had given me a life I never chose. She probably thinks I'm dead by now anyway. I stood there surveying the land, scanning the area for possible threats. I almost missed it, but there was a lone tree with twisted branches in the distance, it looked liked there was the silhouette of a creature standing under it. I walked a bit closer to it, wanting to get a better look at what it was. I squinted my pale eyes, making out the shape of another horse. The strange horse seemed to notice me, despite my rather dark coat, and trotted toward me, whinnying in greeting. I snorted back, not really feeling up to a conversation at the moment. As the horse got closer, I noticed that she was actually a rather slender mare, adorned with fiery colors and paint markings.

"Hey you, loner over there! Are you new around here? 'Cause you're wandering on Shawnee Herd territory and we don't take too kindly to strangers. What's you name anyway?" The mare demanded, with a hint of harshness in her voice.

"Oh, you think you're so though don't you? You're merely a mare, I could easily finish you off quickly, so lose the edge to your voice, you don't scare me. I don't care about your silly little herd, I'll just take care of your pathetic lead stallion in an instant, then it won't matter if I walk on Shawnee territory. By the way, I go by Catahecassa." I glared at the mare with harsh eyes, she probably thought she was better than me or something because of her whimpy herd. The paint mare looked rather flustered, a very angry expression split the features of her pretty little face.

"Why, you! For your information the Shawnee are the strongest herd of the four main native herds that inhabit this area. Our leaders are some of the greatest that ever lived in our herd. And for your information, I've beaten full grown stallions in fights, so don't call me "merely a mare". I go by Nizhoni, not that would would care."

I laughed, this was absolutely ridiculous. "I'm not scared of you or your "all powerful" herd. Why don't you take me to them, I wish to challenge your lead stallion for his position." I demanded, my voice firm.

"You must be joking! No one has challenged him in years!"

"No, I'm completely serious."

"Fine, it's your funeral. You must be crazy or something, Catahecassa."

"I heard that" I hissed, not very amused by her comments.

"You were meant to, now follow me stupid." She claimed in a highly sarcastic voice. Nizhoni spun around on her hooves and dashed off before adding "But you have to keep up with me first!" I snorted angrily, running hard after that speedy little mare. She was going to seriously get it later, for making me run.

He would be a dearly loved character of mine, and I can assure you he would not gather dust. I'd love to write about him, and he would have a pretty significant role in many stories, as he would be the lead stallion of one of the four main herds in the story. I always love to write about all my characters, and Catahecassa would certainly be no exception. He would get a page on my character site, and I would make sure to order art of him when I can. I'd also draw him myself, I absolutely adore his design, and I'm pretty sure I would enjoy drawing him. I would most likely be RPing him too. <3

Nizhoni is a daredevil of sorts, she is always willing to jump head first in the face of danger. She enjoys trying out new tricky stunts or jumping into dangerous situations just for kicks. She could care less about realistic ideas and dreams, she tends to come up with rather bold plans and solutions. Also, she has a habit of talking back and saying things that are borderline offensive or controversial. She's not really all that serious about her own safety and never takes safety precautions when she's involved in something even slightly risky. This often results in getting herself hurt, but due to her being able to take a large amount of pain, she couldn't really care less.
//..Spontaneous & Fast..\\
Nizhoni does things on a sudden whim basis, she never plans and is almost never prepared for anything. She's also not very good at planning and often leaves the problems with the plans unsolved. She much prefers winging everything she does, as she believes that things will eventually sort themselves out and she's often pretty confident that she will eventually come up with a solution for any problems and difficulties that arise. Nizhoni thinks rather speedy and for the most part she thinks way faster than she speaks, resulting in her stumbling over her words from time to time. She is also a fast runner, being able to outrun every single member of her herd.

While Nizhoni is physically strong, she has tremendous mental strength as well. She is very capable of taking verbal insults and it takes a whole lot for her to even begin to become offended or emotional. She tends to hide her true emotions behind a mask of jokes and a lack of being serious. She doesn't like to show her true emotions because she sees it as a sign of mental weakness. She is often extremely confident in herself though, wanting to prove her own strength to others, despite being underestimated for being a mare. Her self esteem is very high, and she usually thinks very highly of herself, sometimes it even reaches into arrogance and vanity.

Nizhoni has such a fierce competitive streak, sometimes it's a bit frightening. She can always be seen racing another herd member, showing off, involved with something highly competitive. If there's one thing she totally despises, that would be losing. It makes her feel completely worthless, so most of the time she will do absolutely anything it takes to win. She also tends to be quite arrogant, in the sense that she thoroughly believes that she is way better and more skilled than everyone she meets. Due to this, she can be awfully irritating to be around. She takes immense pride in her Thoroughbred blood, and often uses it to make her seem superior to others.

Nizhoni is usually very, very active. She trains herself, takes nice, long runs out in the countryside, she is constantly practicing, and of course racing. She has a high amount of energy and she does all those things to burn it out so she's not quite so hyperactive and annoying to be around. She's very lively and animated though, almost always being physically active in some way and showing the weirdest expressions on her face. She's pretty enthusiastic and tries her absolute best at everything she does. She is often quite courageous and will never back down from a challenge or a fight. Although she really prefers not to fight anyone unless it's absolutely required of her.

One could say that Nizhoni is as stubborn as a mule, as everything must go her way and she will very rarely be persuaded otherwise. She has a great amount of determination and will almost never give up on something that she has already put her mind to. She can be very thick-headed at times, refusing to listen to rational reasoning and arguing that her opinion is the right one despite all the arguments and proof against it. Also, she is not afraid to speak her mind and if she disagrees with someone, she will make it loud and clear that she doesn't agree with them. She likes to voice her opinion on absolutely everything, even if her opinion is not even wanted in the first place.

[[ Background/History ]]

A petite young mare scampered around among a throng of wild horses, prancing up to several individuals in search of a worthy opponent. She had always had the dream of becoming a famous race horse, despite being born in the wild. She took great pride in the Thoroughbred blood, and believed that it was a great contributor of her extraordinary running skills. The lead stallion stoop atop a outcropping of rock that stood over the small valley in which his her grazed, keeping a close eye on this rather active mare. She was always getting herself into trouble. The highly competitive scout mare confronted one of her long time childhood friends, a blood bay paint stallion known as Antinanco. This particular mare was a spirited individual with paint markings and fiery colors, who went by Nizhoni. She stood right in front of Antinanco, a single foreleg lifted, her worn down hoof pointing toward the great mountain range that loomed over the herd's primary grazing grounds. Nizhoni snorted in greeting, attaining Antinanco's complete and undivided attention. He sighed, slightly irritated.

"What do you want Nizhoni? I'm not really in the mood." He asked with an annoyed tone to his voice. Nizhoni tended to challenge him to races the most frequently.

"Oh Antinanco, you should know. The usual, I challenge you to a race. Along the treacherous mountain paths that surround our territory. No excuses this time!" Nizhoni exclaimed excitedly, she had never trod on those mountain paths despite her scout position. She really wanted to try a new race path rather than the usual straight shot to the tree at the end of the territory.

"Doesn't that sound a little...dangerous?" Antinanco asked, a trace of uncertainty in his voice.

"Who cares! Come one Anti, it'll be like one great big adventure! I've never been on the mountain paths, have you?" Nizhoni explained, hoping to get her somewhat nervous friend to race with her.

"Well, no. They sound awfully dangerous though. Don't mountain lions live up there or something? What if something horrible happened?" Antinanco rationalized worriedly.

"If you haven't been on them, then how do you know they're dangerous? Don''t get so caught up on the "what ifs", just think about all the adventures and thrills It'll be a blast. Anyway, if something happens, I'm sure I'll think of something to get us out of it. Also, don't worry about those stinky old mountain lions, you can count on me to take care of them. I won't let you say no Anti, I want to see the look on you face when I beat you again anyway!" Nizhoni teased, not caring about the dangers of this race she wanted to embark on. She rolled her eyes, refusing to understand Antinanco's reasoning and though it to be rather silly to worry about such things.

Antinanco trembled a bit before replying to Nizhoni's argument, unaware of what he was getting himself into. "F-fine, I'll race you Nizhoni. What's there to lose?" The paint stallion weakly smiled at his friend, still a bit worried about this risky race.

"Your honor, that's what you've got to lose! The guys would probably tease you again for losing to a mare for about the millionth time. Anyway, let's go, go, go Anti!" Nizhoni laughed, a spark in her chocolate brown eyes.

The fiery mare sprinted off toward the towering, grey, snow-capped mountains, dirt flying behind her sharp hooves. She loved the feeling of the wind blowing through her mane and the rush of the adrenaline coursing through her veins. All the while she dreamed of being on a race track, about to make a big win in the Kentucky Derby, being the fourth filly to ever win the prestigious race.

Nizhoni would certainly be used as a very, very loved character. She and Catahecassa would be absolutely perfect together despite their conflicting personalities. I could definitely see her as lead mare of the herd, since my horse herds severely need leaders and members. I've been actively searching for more horse characters to incorporate into my plot line involving four herds in constant war against each other. Since she would eventually become lead mare, she would have a great role in the stories that I write for this plot, and I'm sure she would be written about very often. Her design is absolutely gorgeous and I'm sure I would love to draw her. Of course I would order art of her when I can as well. She would without a doubt get her own page on my character site, and chances are I would be RPing her too. (:
