Ex and Rai's relationship, if nothing else, is going to be put through the toughest of trials, and it will make it out alive just fine. The pair are only beginning their adventures together now as friends who see each other for a week at most every other month - it's an unbreakable friendship to them now but eventually, eventually, it'll be the only thing they need to get through the day. The promise that the other will be there when they get home
The duo will have to, first of all, learn how to keep Rai free of Antheia's project. She's still searching for her missing rainbow after all, his beloved is grieving her missing soulmate at home. Ex of course will have to work through the internal guilt at the fact his mother has caused most of their problems. Once they've found a way to keep away from Antheia, they'll have to find a way to free Ex from his own love curse. He may have run away but he's still bound to whoever it was he was poisoned alongside by Antheia. And they'll of course have the worry of, if we break this curse, will Rai turn back into a rainbow? Will I get to keep my best friend by my side? Will I lose him? Will we lose each other?
Inevitably, they'll have to have these conversations. They may bicker a little and Rai may claim that he'd be fine with it if it meant he wasn't running away every day of his life. Ex will argue, of course, what about me? And they'll eventually decide that they'll find answers together.
Then they'll have to help Pendulum when Ex inevitably begins looking for answers beyond their simple horizons and turns to the Gods. He can't leave an aura that dark alone. She'll need his help. And Rai will of course be there, his shining kal of every (albeit colour-blinded) colour, because where else would Rai go? They're together now, no matter what, and Ex's troubles are Rai's as much as Rai's are Ex's. They'll help her and they'll confront Charlie, make him undo the curse holding Penny down. Cut her red strings and let her start fresh. She'll learn to be a person again instead of a god grieving her mortality, a monster grieving her humanity. They'll give Penny a chance at friendship and hope together, as a team, the same way they discovered it together, the same way they'll continue to discover it when they finally get help destroying the poison binding Rai and someone he doesn't know.
And now that we know curses can be broken, well, what else are we to do if not learn how to break both of his mothers? He could settle for only freeing Marley of hers, but Antheia couldn't always have been bad - maybe she deserves a new chance after all this time. It'd be nice to get to know Marley properly when she's not being kept from them purposefully by anger and grief. And if we break hers, we can break my sisters, right? Esme can have a normal life where she won't be hidden under Antheia's shadow. And then if we break Esme's... we can break Ex's.
Will Ex want his broken? He's come to rely on the emotional aura of others because even if he doesn't always get it right he at least gets it right enough that it can be good. And Rai will have to gently explain that it is normal to not be able to see everything all at once. Maybe they'll break his curse and Ex will need Rai there to help him navigate a new world that isn't pulsating with love and hate. Maybe they'll end up with Penny in their house - it'd be so strange to have a once-feared god rooming with them, but she likes them now. They're the closest to friends she's had in hundreds of years.
And hey, if we're fixing everything else, why don't we reunite Lynx and Charlie? To hell with it, we'll get Esme's help, she's spent her whole life as a cupid. Oh, there's an ANTEROS stuck in the past? Sure, we'll go back in time to bring her - and apparently her new family - back to present time! Or maybe we'll leave them there, does it really do much harm? They seem happy in their little orchard. Their kits are cute. Have you guys ever thought about kits?
And that'll be it. Ex and Rai will be bonded for life, because how else could you leave someone who's been through so much with you? And Penny will be there, and they'll be the strangest throuple ever. Maybe we will have kits. And a nice house in the city where we can be close to everything and everyone, and we'll take a bus to work every day, and a bus to the beach with our new kits, and a bus with the towering god who is both of our wife, to her temple for whatever gods do when they work. And Rai will be so proud every single time he can use the bus without help even if it has been almost a decade now. He'll tell their kits that they met their dad because he rescued them on a bus because they don't need to know the horrors of the world the two were raised on. And Penny, your mother, she just thought we were too cute to resist! Their household will be filled with love and light and laughter and noone they love will ever need to know what hurt is again. They'll still bicker, still stick their cold paws on each other, or moan as they climb the hundreds of stairs to Penny's private god-realm whenever they want to visit, but they'll still go to bed together at the end of the day in love and happy. Nobody and nothing will ever take that from them again. Together, the three of them, their lives will be happy. They'll make it so.
