Arriving at the craft stand today, you are immediately aware of the fact that it appears you will not be scratching off hearts today— the booth clearly has been left how it closed the day prior, and Mothpaw is nowhere to be seen. Who can be seen however is Pebblecoat, having assumed station nearby perched upon a smooth rock with Billy sitting between her ears like he was stationed atop a watch tower. It was clear that she was on the lookout, and judging by your previous interaction, it was pretty clear who for.

"Hello again!" She greeted, affording you a moment of her attention in spite of her mission. "It appears that little fuzzball has managed to elude me so far, but from what I heard he showed up here again yesterday... so I'm staking out now! What, you think that this spot is a little obvious? I— well, I guess it is a bit open.." Pebblecoat's ears fold back as she thinks this over for a moment, although hearing your recount of Mothpaw's words from yesterday snap her back to the present.

"Oh, he did not! Sure, there is some stationary and supplies in my collection I don't utilize often, but some of those hold sentimental value or require the right composition and theming for use with my projects. Just because I'm not using them for my current designs doesn't mean that I won't ever use them.." The pale tip of her tail swayed back and forth pointedly. Pebblecoat stood up and hopped off the rock, shaking out her fur. "Ancestors help me, I need a distraction. Would you care to indulge my curiosity a bit?"

Prompt: Gingerswirl had a mate named Yewblood once. He was an Evergreen, an expert on plants and herbs and dyes. Yewblood was passionate and brilliant. He was strong and determined.
And he was dead.
Gingerswirl's kits -- named Jumble, Berry, Pigeon, and Mint -- were all so sweet, so precious, so lovely. Her perfect little litter: bold Mint, anxious Berry, quiet Pigeon, and protective Jumble, each Gingerswirl's pride and joy.
They had been buried alongside Yewblood in a landslide sent by StarClan.
Gingerswirl spent moons digging her family and her other Clanmates out of the side of Wire Mountain. Her pawpads were covered in mud at the set of every sun, and still she kept digging.
Berry was the first one she pulled out of the soil, the first one she laid in the burial grounds. The first one that had mewled pitifully at her belly when he was born.
She found the honorable Hollowbone next. Then Mint, her dull eyes open wide. Then Yewblood, his fur matted. She found Jumble and Pigeon holding paws. There were strange marks on the mud above them, like they had tried to dig their way back home.
Gingerswirl buried her last kits on her kitting-day. The kits would have had their first birthday on that day.
She learned two things from the landslide: StarClan was cruel, and they will face her wrath the day the light leaves her eyes.

mothspool is familiar with loss, from friends to loved ones of all ages. as a shaman, it is her duty to aid the needy but her skills can only do so much. the first and most devastating one wasn't a death though - it was the unrepairable shatter of the relationship with her father.

pushed to conform to his beliefs but struggling with finding her own, the fae eventually snapped. a thunderous fight broke out in the middle of camp. the young moth and her father were at each others throat, a culmination of all the uncertainty and rage the fae felt just pouring out of her. she felt twice her size and all the courage she'd learned from her father flared in her eyes as she defied him. she would not be the cold, bloodthirsty fighter he'd shaped her into. before actual harm could be caused, lightnettle appeared and broke them up.

they were never the same after that and it affected their whole family. he disowned moth entirely; iced her out, treated her poorly, and shot her glares that haunted her dreams.

“Do you mind if I talk about something that is a little…heavy?” Ravenstar paused, looking at Pebblecoat for her approval. “I- I lost my brother, Kal’ab, in the fire that ravaged the old clan. He was everything a deputy needed to be. Strong, brave, kind, considerate. The list could go on, but I think you get the picture. He was perfect, and I’m just me. I never even considered I might be a clan-leader one day. That position was always going to go to him. Kal’ab’s with the eternal Sky-Hunt now though, and I’m sure Starclan welcomed him with tails held high. Now I’m down here with a ragtag group of scared cats who need someone to tell them it’s going to be alright. Can I be that for them? Can I live up to my brother’s path? I guess only time will tell in that regard.”

Prompt: When your life is on the edge of the dice, you lose things all the time. You roll, you get your moneys worth, then you pay the price. Seregith has lost so much that he's not even sure where to begin with sharing a story of loss. He's even lost his own life a couple of times. Not sure how many but certainly enough to make it hard to take another leap of faith. That being said, he'd do it if it meant saving a friend or loved one. So in all things considered if he rolls the dice again to test his luck, he'll gladly bite the bullet that comes his way.

Emberstar had had a brother, once. It would be a lie to say he was perfect. He’d been selfish, arrogant, stubborn, unwilling to listen to anyone but himself. And yet missing him coloured all Emberstar’s memories pink: they remembered how they’d shared prey on the coldest nights, talking about when they thought the snow would finally melt; they remembered growing up together, pushing themselves to run faster, climb higher in order to keep up with him; remembered the horror in their stomach when they saw his paws slip from beneath him and he plummeted into the chasm, where they couldn’t even reach his body for a burial.

Though Emberstar had mourned, they had taken comfort in the knowledge that he hunted among the stars now, would never feel the piercing cold or the stab of hunger again. It was this thought that had carried them through the worst of their grief. When they finally worked up the courage to speak of their brother’s death to their mother, the then-leader of the colony, her eyes had narrowed in fury. “Starclan isn’t real,” she’d spat at them, ears flat against her skull. “You should have realised that by now. Starclan is a story we tell to keep the colony in line. We go nowhere when we die apart from the cold stone we are buried in, and you’re a fool to think otherwise.”

To hear this from the leader, the one cat in the colony able to commune with their ancestors, broke Emberstar in a way that could not be mended. To know that there was no afterlife, that they would never again see their brother or their friends or anyone after they had passed on, was something they couldn’t bear to think about. Even now as leader in their own right, when asked to give final rites over a fallen clanmate, the words stick in their throat as they are forced to continue a lie perpetuated by their family for generations.

Loss is something that is familiar to many cats. In this uncertain age, nearly all of the Refugees have known the bitter sting of a hole in the heart. They seek comfort in one another, to weather the storm, and perhaps in the hope that they will be able to replace that friend, that lover, that family, that home, with the warmth of a community.
For Tinderpaw, he knew loss since he was old enough to speak. His childhood memories are drenched with floods, relocation, and floods anew. It walks beside him always, a solemn companion and a reminder of how hard he must fight just to have something. He's found a home, and new friends, but he cannot rest easy. He must always try, always be doing something. He loves the Refugees, how he has found his place in the community cheering others and protecting them from the ravages of sickness and death. But no warm den full of sleeping cats will replace those he has lost, nothing will replace the amber smile of his sister.
He thinks of her when it rains.
