Lucky Ranch is a sprawling 300 acre cattle ranch found in the Texas Hill Country, just outside of a little town called Moonstone Creek. Lucky Ranch has been in the Luck family for the last 200 years, the Luck family being one of the oldest in this part of the hill country. For some Lucky Ranch is safe haven, for others itโ€™s all they have ever known. Scenic, beautiful, welcoming small town, whats not to love? Theres the old ladies that love to gossip, the cowboys who are ever the gentlemen, and that southern charm that always brings people back. One things for sure though, fall in love with a Luck, and your life will never be the same.

Besides beautiful pastures, long lived trees, and a gorgeous creek passing through the back of the property theres plenty to be found. Thereโ€™s a main house just a short drive from the welcome sign, than theres the five homes belonging to each Luck sibling, theres two barns, and a stable. The work day starts at 3am before the Texas weather truly sets in and doesnโ€™t end until 7pm most days. Meals are served at 4am, 12pm, and 7pm Monday through Friday in the main house. The only ones that work weekends are usually the Luck family themselves.
The Main House has three bathrooms, five bedrooms, a living space that is mainly used for game nights, and a massive kitchen where everyone on the property eats during the work week. The staff that resides on the premises lives here.
The Original Farmhouse is the original home on the property, itโ€™s located close to the creek at the back of the property. Itโ€™s a well loved home, that has a rustic welcoming vibe. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a well used family room and a smaller kitchen. The oldest of the Luck children lives here with his twins.
The Cabin is out near the oldest barnhouse that is rarely used. Its a small space, two bedroom, one bath, and an open concept living space and kitchenette. The second eldest of the Luck children lives here.
The Modern Home is closest to the main house, its a very open concept home with four rooms, two bathrooms, a large unused kitchen and an empty looking living space. The third Luck child lives here.
The Twin Farm-homes, they were built at the edge of the forest on the far west side of the property. Theyโ€™re newer homes in a traditional farmhouse style, only separated by a flourishing garden. The homes are identical in their build of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a homey living room and somewhat spacious kitchens. The Luck Twins reside in these homes.
The Stables are out by the main house, 15 different horses reside here at any given time. Everyone has their preferred horse, as this is a cattle ranch but the Lucks have started to dabble in horse breeding and races in the last two years so they are looking to build a second stable.
The barns are located on opposite sides of the property and only used in the winter months or during vaccine season. The cattle is left to roam the pastures freely and moved frequently.

Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. The young man groaned, covering his eyes with one hand and blindly reaching for his phone to silence it. His muscles protesting at the early morning wake up. Yesterday had been a rough day prepping for vaccinations that they would be performing later today. Phone in hand he gave a stretch, yawning in the process. Blinking his eyes he pushed up out of his bed, slowly making his way to the bathroom to take a shower.

His typical routine was his god awful 3am wake up, shower, brush his hair and teeth, and finally getting dressed. He had it down to a science, that way his brain was only halfway functioning and he had a moment to really wake up. Finishing his morning routine he headed for his living room, pausing a moment. What was that. His dark brows furrowed as he stood there a moment, listening. Nothing seemed out of place, it was dark the only light being the early morning moonlight. He kept his space simple but welcoming, loving the open concept which also allowed him to observe that no one was in his space. It was the shuffle outside, faint but there that had him moving towards his door. He slipped on his worn work boots and reached for the shotgun he kept in the closet hall. Could never be too cautious after all.

He kept his steps light as he walked across his porch and down the steps. The soft rustle came from the garden again, the space that split his home from Naiahโ€™s. His blue eyes flicked to his sisters home in worry but there was no light so the noise wasnโ€™t from her. It was the barely there moo that has him freezing.
โ€œThatโ€™s not good.โ€ He muttered to himself moving quickly. Holding his weapon in one hand he pulled out his phone from his back pocket. Flicking the flashlight on he took he took a look around the flowerbeds, finding what he was looking for. A newborn calf was curled up alone in the middle of his sisters freshly planted flower bed. Jem snapped a photo, the flash causing the baby to softly moo again.

โ€œGive me a minute little one, Iโ€™ll take care of you.โ€ He stepped away to go put his gun back in his home before pulling up the family group chat.

there seems to be a fence down to one of the pastures. thatโ€™ll need to be addressed, but i know for sure one heffer got out and is roaming where she shouldnโ€™t, not sure if there are any others. we also need to have the vet check for pregnancies, someone let the ladies mingle with the bulls. found this little guy a few minutes ago. [image attached] gonna take him to the main house with me.

He fired off the text, placing his shotgun back in the closet. Searching for some leading rope that he always keeps on hand for unseen circumstances such as this. Finding the rope he needs in the kitchen in a fairly empty drawer after about ten minutes he went back out the door.

He approached the calf quietly as not to scare it, coaxing the small creature to allow him to to wrap the rope around its neck. Little thing was probably still unsteady on its feet so heโ€™d have to carry it to the main house. โ€œWhoโ€™s your momma little one? No one knew about a heffer being pregnant so youโ€™re a surprise.โ€ He murmered as he wrapped the baby up in his arms.

โ€œNAIAH IM HEADING OUT!โ€ He hollard to ensure he woke up his sister as he started the long track to the main house. Usually heโ€™d drive but he could feel the anxiety of the newborn calf as it shook in his arms.

The young woman was wide awake staring at the dark cieling, enjoying the peaceful moment even though her night had been sleepless. Amelia had gotten in late the prior night, and had it not been for the wonderful Lydia Landers she would not have gotten settled at all. She couldnโ€™t be more thankful for the older woman, if not for her sheโ€™d still be in a shelter searching for work and a place to live. Lydia had reached out, offering the best position Ames could have ever asked for. A live in cook near Moonstone Creek. It was a dream getting to come back here, the little town had been her favorite place to live in the few years she did spend here.

She rolled onto her side, sighing with how wonderful her new bed was. Honestly the entire room was incredible and she had much more space than she truly needed, after-all all of her belongings fit into one simple suit case. Itโ€™d been that way growing up and when sheโ€™d run from him itโ€™s all she had time to grab. She snuggled deeper into the soft comforter, everything about her new room was honestly perfect. She was laying in the best bed she had ever had the privilege to be in, if only she wasnโ€™t so nervous about her first day. Sheโ€™d only gotten to meet Erica Gavingston as the older woman was heading home and she already knew Lydia.

It was the next moment the soft hum if her alarm went off. She sighed, slipping an arm out to grab her phone. The soft illumination making her squint, the 2:30am wake up during the week was going to be a big adjustment. With a soft sigh she forced herself to climb out of bed and face the day. She could do this, sheโ€™d met the Luck family very briefly in her late teens and she wasnโ€™t wholly unfamiliar with the townies. She grew up going from home to home, this was nothing new.

Going to her suit case she pulled out a simple 1950s swing dress, finding the pie print fitting for her first day. Grabbing her toiletries and dress she crept like a mouse to the bathroom closest to her room on the second story of the main house. Only two of the five bedrooms were currently filled, by herself and Lydia, but she could never be careful in case someone decided to crash in a spare room. Flicking the light on she took in her fair complexion, she looked tired but she could see her own excitement coming through. This was a great change for her.

Thirty minutes later she was stepping out of the bathroom showered, dressed and ready to face her first day as a Lucky Ranch employee. Th soft click of her black kitten heels the only noise as she made her way down the hall and down the stairs. The building as a whole felt so homey and lived in with itโ€™s rustic decorations and scattered photos of those who worked and loved the land. The photos of the Luckโ€™s themselves brought a small smile to her face, she craved the love and family feeling the photos seemed to pour out in waves.

โ€œMorning, honey!โ€ Lindsay Landers called as she walked into the kitchen.

โ€œDoll did you not sleep?โ€ Erica Gavingston stilled over the skillet of bacon she was working on.

โ€œNot really, but Iโ€™m good.โ€ She offered the two worried woman a bright smile. โ€œNow where do you need me?โ€

Nothing else was really said outside of directions. What to grab. Where to put what. After another thirty minutes she found herself falling into a rythm with the woman, all working in tandem. Amelia began to set the large kitchen table, placing the large portions of food in the center as the large coffee pot gurgled behind her. Scrambled cheesy eggs, bacon, sausage, crispy hashbrowns, toast, and a large plate of cinnamon rolls. There was fourteen people eating all of this but Lydia had assured her that it was only just enough with how some of the people she was about to meet ate. With the table set and everything good to go, the three sat down and began to eat their own portions. Since no one else had yet to arrive they began discussing what to make for lunch.

Caleb Luck
32 years old| Widowed| The Single Father| Father to Celia and Cybil| Tag: open| Mentions: n/a
It was early morning on Lucky Ranch, the golden rays of the sun just beginning to peek over the horizon. Caleb Luck stood in front of the barn, his boots planted firmly in the dirt as he surveyed the land. The morning chill still clung to the air, but the promise of a warm day was already starting to settle in. His hands were rough and worn, but as always, he had a soft smile when he looked toward the house where his twins were still sleeping.

He took a deep breath, the familiar scent of hay and fresh earth grounding him, as he adjusted his worn cowboy hat. Another long day awaited himโ€”fixing fences, tending to cattle, checking the crops, and making sure his kids had everything they needed. Some days it felt like he was holding everything together with nothing more than sheer willpower. But he'd been raised to do the hard work, and he wasnโ€™t about to stop now.

His eyes briefly wandered to the far edge of the ranch, where a patch of land needed attention. It had been on his mind for weeks, but between the demands of the ranch and raising two young ones on his own, it was hard to get around to everything.

A soft whistle cut through the morning air, the signal that the crew was arriving. Caleb pushed off from the barn, walking toward the gate where a few of the ranch hands were beginning to gather. It was a familiar rhythm, the dance of work and responsibility that shaped his every day.

Still, there was a part of him that longed for something more. A life outside of the endless work, a connection with someone who understood the weight of this ranch, this family, this legacy.

But that felt like a distant dreamโ€”a hope he'd long since buried beneath the dirt of daily life.

He shifted his focus back to the crew as they began to greet him, offering a polite nod, though his mind wandered back to the twins. He had to make sure they'd be okay todayโ€”just like every other day.

"Morning, Caleb. Looks like another busy one," one of the hands said, tipping his hat.

"Yeah," Caleb replied, voice steady but tinged with the quiet fatigue that never fully left him. "Let's get to work. Ain't gonna fix itself."

There was more to say, more that lingered just beneath the surface, but Caleb kept it inside. Instead, he focused on the task at hand. He had learned long ago that actions spoke louder than words. And for now, his actions were all he had to offer.

Thomas Luck
30 years old| The Recluse| Tags: Open | Mentions: Luck family
Thomas stood on his porch when his phone pinged. He read over Jemโ€™s text. He let out a deep breath, his mind already working through the steps of what needed to be done. He wasnโ€™t about to let his brother haul that calf all the way back by himselfโ€”not when there were easier ways.

He pulled his phone from his pocket, thumbing the screen to start a text.

Headed out to look for the momma. Donโ€™t wear yourself out carrying it all the way back. Iโ€™ll round up the dogs and find her. You get the fence fixed and check on the rest.

He hit send, knowing Jem would see it soon enough. He didnโ€™t need to rush over there in person when a quick text would do. Thomas had a job to do, and his dogs were already starting to stir at the edge of the pasture. Theyโ€™d be on the scent soon enough.

The cool morning air filled his lungs as he called to his dogs, watching them form up in their usual pattern, eager for work. He let them stretch out before he gave a sharp whistle, sending them off to track the missing heifer.
Thomas started walking toward the far end of the pasture, trusting the dogs to lead the way.

The sudden shout made Naiahโ€™s eyes snap open. She was barely awake enough to register the words, but she knew that tone. She groaned, pushing herself up from the bed and rubbing her eyes. Typical Jemโ€”always handling everything before the sun even thought about rising.

"Seriously?" she muttered, swinging her legs off the side of the bed. Her feet hit the cold floor, and the chill made her instantly more awake, though not any more happy about it. She glanced at the clockโ€”3:45 AM. Perfect.

Her mind was still groggy, but she grabbed her robe and yanked it on as she stumbled toward the front door. What the hell had Jem found this time? A newborn calf? In her flowerbed? That wasn't good. Not good at all.

By the time she stepped outside, she could hear him moving through the garden, his boots crunching against the ground, and she could see the faint beam of his flashlight cutting through the early morning darkness. She rubbed her temples, trying to shake off the drowsiness, and then her eyes landed on the tiny calf nestled in Jemโ€™s arms.

"Jem, youโ€™re gonna have to stop finding random animals in my flowerbeds," she grumbled, her voice still thick with sleep as she made her way over to him.

She wasn't even surprised by the mess anymore. Jem had a way of attracting trouble in the form of animalsโ€”or at least, animals who couldn't stay put. She crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow as she eyed the little calf. "Well, looks like weโ€™ve got an early morning adventure on our hands."

Naiah rubbed the back of her neck, glancing over at the fence line that separated their properties. "You sure it's just one?" she asked, her tone shifting to a more serious one. "If one got out, there could be more."

She had no idea how Jem managed to do this kind of stuff at this hour, but she figured it was easier to just roll with it. Theyโ€™d deal with the fence later. Right now, this little calf needed attention. "Youโ€™re lucky I love animals," she muttered, reaching over to adjust the rope he'd used to secure the calf. "Otherwise, I might be questioning your sanity right about now."

She offered him a tired smile, knowing this was just another day in the life of living so close to the farm.

Sam Webber
M | 32 |The Vet| Single | Location: Squirrel Cafรฉ (5:45am)

Sam's morning started at 4am - two hours before he planned to be in at work. Well, he technically did not need to be there until 9am, but he was expecting a busy day, so he wanted to be in early. He had only been back in town and working for a week. Hardly anyone recognized him; he had left Moonstone Creek with his parents after his sophomore year of high school. Back then he had long, messy hair, ivory skin that burned the second he stepped out into the sun, and always had some animal or another in tow. He was kind of stumpy and awkward, as he was still growing.

Now Sam had a totally different air about him. His orange hair was short and usually styled - though at this moment he had a wild bed head reminiscent of the old days. He had a healthy amount of facial hair that Sam always meticulously groomed and preened. At the moment, he had what he thought was a fairly standard beard and mustache. On his first day at the vet, he had sported a beautiful handle bar mustache. The kind you only saw in old westerns or under the nose of evil villains. It was beautiful! The startled receptionist of the Clinic, Jameson, hadn't known to laugh or be in awe. The absolute confusion on the kid's face as he tried to figure out how to address Sam at the time had been priceless.

Same chuckled at the memory while he fixed his current face based masterpiece expertly with a razor. This week he had decided to tame down the mustache. Which ended up being a good decision in the long run; he's be dealing with the Lucks later in the day. He had not seen them since his parents dragged him away from the farm the day they moved. Although he was nervous, Sam could not help but to be a little bit excited to see their reaction!

After he spent all the time he needed to feel confident in himself, Sam checked out his appearance in the bathroom mirror once more. Even though it was dark outside, Sam knew his red hair would glitter in the Texan sun like a traffic light. His skin, while not as pale as it used to be, was still relatively pale. He had been in Germany the past few years and the weather was nothing like Texas. He had donned a black dress shirt and pants for the trip into town. Once he got to work, he'd switch that out for a pair of maroon scrubs.

Pleased, Sam threw his thumbs up at his reflection. "You've got this!" He urged himself. Even if it was just Sam talking to Sam, he couldn't help but to feel a bit confident. With that, he headed out of the apartment and to the Squirrel Cafรฉ across the road. One could not start the day without a cup of coffee, after all!

Sara Woods
F | 27 |The City Kid| Single | Location: Squirrel Cafรฉ (8:30 am)

Driving all the way from Texas to Ohio had been a literal nightmare. The worst of it had been in Arkansas. The drivers there were...insane! Sara had thought Michigan drivers were the worst, but it seems there was a new contender there! Even after she had made it to her dad's house - no, her house - she had a fitful night's sleep as she had nightmares of the horrors that drove the freeway through Arkansas.

As Sara groggily got out of the sleeping bag she'd spent the night in, she swore to herself; "I'm never going through Arkansas again."

The house was...musty. No one had been living in it since her father had been taken to jail. Or at least Sara hoped no one had been in it... The doors had still been properly locked when she pulled up to the driveway in the middle of the previous night. She had been so soul weary, she did not bother to unpack anything. She simply grabbed her sleeping back and plopped down in the cleanest spot she could find. Which, in this old house, happened to be the kitchen. Even though Texas was supposed to be warmer than Ohio, when Sara wasn't struggling through nightmares of bad drivers, she was shivering.

And to think she had decided to take on fixing up and selling this place on her own. Sara sat up and looked drearily around the room she found herself in. At the very least, she needed to spend the day cleaning up. She had not brought much with her from Ohio. She feared the state of the fridge, since the power had been off for at least three years. Regardless, if she was going to follow through with her plans she needed to start...somewhere. Breakfast somewhere not in that house sounded good.

Sara's car was an old, but relatively reliable green 1995 Volvo. It had been in her family for...well, generations; it belonged to her uncle first, who babied the thing. Then it was passed to her mother, to her older sister, then her brother nearly set the engine on fire, and finally it was Sara's. For her birthday the previous year, her uncle (the original owner) had fixed up a lot of problems with the car...and then promptly 'borrowed' it for two months.

Regardless, the car started and that was all Sara really needed. She hoped the folks in town would not mind the state of her car - filled with her belongings as it was. Or, for that matter, the fact that Sara herself was struggling to find the energy to don her usual cheery mask and cheery clothes. At the moment, she was wearing a black t-shirt two sizes too big and a pair of gray cargo pants. Her mop of curly brown hair was...well, it was how it usually was. Curly.

From what little she knew about southerner's, she could only assume they would be talking all about her as soon as she stepped out of it. Oh well, I won't be here forever. A deep rumble from her stomach made Sara realize she hadn't eaten since breakfast the previous morning. Since she needed to go out to buy things anyway, she figured she could get breakfast.

With that, Sara pulled into the first empty spot she could find at the Squirrel Cafรฉ and headed inside. Despite it being a small town, the cafe seemed popular as there was a small line and several occupied tables. Hoping she did not look too grimy, Sara waddled into line. She wasn't much of a coffee drinker, but cafes usually had some good pastries or something, right?

Isla Luck

It had been Isla's first night back from her latest adventure - in the Seychelles - and she had been sleeping quite deeply. She didn't really intend to wake up until much later on in the day, but it was perhaps one of those things that was hardwired into her from an early age. Still, even then she didn't wake up until it was almost 4. That didn't mean she was going to actually get up though. Instead, she reached over to grab her phone from the nightstand, and squinted as she unlocked it to read the messages that were sent in the group chat. Jem had found a newborn calf and that a fence was down. At least one missing cow... the message from Tom indicated that things were being dealt with, and she was certain that Naiah was also lending a hand - her cabin being right next to Jem's would surely mean that she would.
'Well they probably don't need me then.' Isla thought. Her siblings all handled everything on the ranch just fine without her as it was anyway. She looked through a few other notifications before locking her phone and setting it face down on the nightstand again, before pulling the covers over her head to get back to sleep for at least another couple of hours. Would she be missing breakfast? Yes. But she doubted she'd be missed, nowadays she wasn't at breakfast more than she actually was. She'd be surprised if they even knew that she was back.

A few hours later, Isla finally woke up again. It was still too early for her, in her opinion, but she figured that she'd better actually get up and make an appearance. First, she reached over to pick up her phone from the nightstand to check for messages again, and read up on any updates on the calf situation from earlier. Then, Isla got out of bed, went for a shower and got dressed - a flowy top and jeans that looked more like she was going out than ready to help on a ranch. Well... maybe she wasn't quite planning on actually doing that, she was more thinking of going into town to buy a few supplies and catch up with some of the townsfolk.
But first, she was going to pay a visit to the main house. A short walk from her own house, Isla pushed the door of the main house open and went inside, looking around for who might still be there.

Julian was awake at half seven that morning - not much of a surprise as he'd had quite an early night the night before. He was not scheduled to work until the evening, so although it was tempting to just stay in bed - or at least at home - he decided to make an early start in tackling the day. He had to pick up some groceries from the market anyway, and the earlier he was, the fresher the produce. But... there was still a good hour and a half until the market was open, so there was still plenty of time for him to do something. He didn't really want to stick around doing nothing for that time, but he did spend a few minutes scrolling through his phone before he actually got out of bed. Then he went for a quick shower and got dressed - now he was ready to go out. Pulling his shoes on, he made sure he had his wallet and keys before leaving the house, and making the ten minute walk from his house to the Squirrel Cafรฉ.

He loved how early the Cafรฉ was open. It made getting a quick pre-Market snack and drink much easier, and it was nice to sit by the windows and watch the rest of Moonstone Creek slowly wake up and start their day. Unfortunately... it seemed like half the town had the same idea as he did, since he noticed as he approached the small line that was formed at the counter, and many of the tables already occupied. There were still plenty of empty tables and places to sit, of course, but he'd thought it'd be a little quieter at this time.
While he waited in the line, he noticed the young woman in the line in front of him. He did not recognise her, and it seemed like she was quite tired. Julian figured she must have only very recently arrived in town, otherwise he would have already heard the gossip from one of his neighbours - or even yesterday from one of the Fairchilds.
"Excuse me," Julian started, "sorry if this comes across as very odd - but did you just move here? We don't get very many visitors, especially this early."
