Fjord horses are famous for their dun coloration. These Fjord horses are famous for their variegation: a newly identified color gene which effectively "turns off" dilutions such as dun and cream. Just like in variegated plants, these horses have different colored streaks or patches decorating their coats. Due to the various outcrossing necessary to establish this breed, all recognized horse colors and patterns are possible.
These horses are rather small (13-14.3 hands), but versatile. They can excel with training in any discipline.

Also recruiting help in running a discord server. I would love a space for the community to come together, but I lack the spoons (and frankly the skill) to make it happen. Let me know if you're interested c:

This gene affects other genes which modify the base coat by "turning them off." This includes, but is not limited to, gray, dun, cream, and roan. For example, a blue roan will have black patches.
Variegation most commonly expresses as patches, but can also express as streaks and spots. The specific genetic cause for these patterns is unknown.
This gene does not affect white markings, nor will it alter the appearance of chestnut, black, or bay horses.
This gene can be "full" or "partial," meaning that it does not always turn off the modifying genes in the same way. The specific cause for these patterns is also unknown. If you think about the color genes as layers, Var may turn off all modifiers, or only some. For example, a palomino roan (chestnut + cream + roan), may have any combination of palomino, chestnut, and roan.
