Unasked for backstory: They are dreamwalkers. They can enter dreams and change them with their magic. I imagine this is a nightmare, and they are keeping the dark at bay with the candles. The nightmare creatures lurk, waiting for their chance. But, for now, it's a happy moment for the couple.
