What a quaint little house, the decorations seem odd?
Quiet blankets the front porch.

You come across a house that seems to have hastily put together some decorations. You walk up and eye the simple jack o'lantern sitting on one side of the porch and some gourds on the other. A single streamer of 'danger' tape is stuck to one of the doors and a smaller sized 'witch crashed into the door' is off to the side. Clearly this house didn't put in much effort into its decorations, so hopefully the candy will be decent. If not, well good thing you snuck some eggs in your bucket.

You ring the doorbell and step back, curious at who could live at this house. The door creaks open and out comes a small child. She is dressed in a purple witches outfit and her eyes are wide as she stares at you. "Ohmygosh!" She squealed in a high-pitched voice. "You are my first visitor!" She danced happily. "This is my first time experiencing Halloween! Do you like my decorations! I worked very hard on them!"

Guilt bubbles up from the pit of your stomach. You quickly nod and hold out your pail, doing your best to hide the eggs. "Trick or treat!" You smile.

The first year Ariadne celebrated Halloween without a kit in tow felt oddly empty—a sad, desolate type of feeling (what was she, if not a mother?). Regardless, she had a tradition to uphold; find a costume (Snow White, this year), visit the intricately decorated houses, share her own offers of candy to the little ones. This house in particular called to her, quite possibly due to the witch taped to the door. It was cute, she thought, pressing the doorbell and waiting with pail in hand.
"Aren't you just the sweetest little witch on the street!" She smiled, eyes alight with excitement. "Your decorations are lovely, little one. My favourite has to be the poster, and your pumpkins look positively frightening."

"As for your question..." Ariadne tapped her chin in thought, scrunching her nose. "I'd use a watermelon instead of a pumpkin! We have big ones growing in our garden, and often the rind gets thrown away. I think it'd be a lovely substitute! Green is a scary colour, after all."

They took Estelle's paws in theirs, deciding in that moment that they would be friends, as kids do, and smiled "We should carve pineapples and pumpkins together that would be so much fun!! But let me ask my dad first okay!!"
