W.I.P - Egredeer - upcoming semi-closed species

Postby MyopicDinobird » Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:00 pm

W.I.P - I'm setting up the thread!

PLEASE don't post here just to mark the topic - it clutters the thread. You can use ChickenSmoothie's built-in bookmark function (click here for a guide on how to use it), bookmark the thread in your browser, or follow me on the Oekaki boards (to get notified when editables/MYOs are ready). You're free to post in the thread with actual comments. For example, I would love to hear if you're interested in making your own common, free egredeer, if you'd be interested in paying for the rarer variants, and if so, how much, if you have any questions about their features, and so on. Chatting is highly encouraged!
Any post just saying 'mark' or similar will be reported as spam. I'm sorry, but I don't want it in here. We have a bookmark function.

These are work in progress and will probably be so for a while. I'm working on setting up the thread little by little.

These are going to be a semi-closed species, with common variants available for anyone to make, and uncommon+ available for purchase as MYO's or premade. If they do well, I will also add the ability to make your own marking patterns. The species will have set rules for colourations/markings.

Q&A

Postby MyopicDinobird » Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:01 pm

Q&A

When will these be open?
Whenever they're done! MYO's for common Egredeer are likely to open as soon as I've written out rules. Other rarity tiers will follow as I finish enough traits for them, you can see how far I am in the main post.

Can I make my own?
Once they open, single-marking common Egredeer will be available for anyone to make, unlimited, for free. This means designs with one common main marking, able to be coloured in however you wish as long as it follows the provided palette, as well as one common white spotting mask and one set of black markings. White and black markings are optional.

Will I be allowed to make Egredeer adoptables?
Yes! You'll be allowed to make and sell adoptables with the provided base, as long as they follow all the species rules. If you pay the fees for a MYO ticket, you can also sell adoptables with rarer traits for a profit.

Can Egredeer be any colour?
Egredeer have limits on their colouration. The main body can have any pattern, but is always brown. As a rule of thumb, the main markings will fall into categories of Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Teal, Blue, Purple, and Pink, but can otherwise be coloured in however you like. If these take off, I might make events where you get to use an expanded palette.
More clear explanations will be provided once it is time to let people make their own.

Will there be line edits?
Edit: I've changed my mind somewhat on this, and have decided to allow people to make small line edits to their own Egredeer, within reason. This will be limited to things like subtly changing ear length, adding scars, making tail poofier or less poofy, etc. Premade adopts made by me and/or select individuals approved to be artists might have more bold line edits, for example different ears altogether. I want these to be pretty consistent, but you should still get to make them unique!
In the future, I would like to add antlers to the uncommon+ base. If Egredeer become very popular, I might add new types of ears, head crests, and possibly differences in tails, to the MYO base. However, this would mean a lot of editing the existing markings to fit, so it is not my first priority.
The basic body plan (long beak, hooves with spurs, long fluffy tail and long ears, etc.) will stay pretty much the same, for lore reasons, so don't expect anything too wild like wings or scales or whatnot.

How much will these cost?
Common, single-marking Egredeer will be free to make, and people can create and sell these for the own prices.

For the higher tiers: This may be subject to change, but I'm thinking something along these lines:

PREMADE ADOPTABLES: Depends on the complexity. Ones made by me will always have the MYO fee included in the price. Other users will have their own prices.

MYO TICKETS: uncommon: 20 C$, Unusual: 50 C$, Rare: 100 C$, Unique: 200 C$

If you just want to use one white marking OR one black marking from a higher rarity set, the price for that tier is halved. For example, an Egredeer otherwise using the 'uncommon' template can use a 'rare' black marking for a total price of 70 C$.

Double markings: an additional 10 C$ (no matter the rarity of the markings). This allows you to use one more of each marking type (main, white, and black). Max cap is 3 markings. You don't have to use all three for all marking types. For example, you can have 2 main markings, 3 black markings, and no white markings, all for an additional 20 C$. Instructions for layering markings will follow.
Each main marking follows its own colour palette. That means that an Egredeer with double markings can have an orange-hue blanket with green-hue spots on top, for example.
Each white marking follows its own colour palette. That means you can pick different hues for each white marking.
All black markings must be the same hue.

I'm also considering a MYO free pass, where you pay to be able to make as many MYOs with a certain rarity traits as you want! This will cost between 5-10x the price of a single MYO. And yes, you will absolutely be allowed to use this to sell cheaper rare-trait Egredeer to the masses, if you so desire.

Will you only be taking C$?
Nope! I'll use C$ prices for ease of communication, but I plan to let people pay in both pets and items as well.

Will there be breeding?
I really want there to be breeding, but it would be quite the big undertaking, so it really depends on how much traction these get! If a lot of people are interested in breeding their Egredeer, I will definitely consider implementing it.
If breeding happens, I plan for it to be able to result in brand new marking variations.

UNIQUE EGREDEER

Postby MyopicDinobird » Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:01 pm

RESERVED - this is for information on making your own markings for Egredeer, aka. 'unique' patterns. Expected price for making your own markings is 200 C$.

Main markings: Can cover around 50% or less of the Egredeer. They must be visible, but otherwise has no minimum size. Go wild.
Must have clear edges and be fully opaque.

White markings: Can cover a little under half the Egredeer or less. When layered on top of the main markings, some brown should still be visible.
Must have clear edges and be fully opaque.

Black markings: Can cover around 25% of the Egredeer or less. Can have faded/soft edges or lowered opacity, though some of the marking should preferably be fully black.

ABOUT

Postby MyopicDinobird » Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:09 pm

This will eventually go in the main post, but I'm putting it here for now!

Egredeer are about 1.5 meter tall animals that live in wetlands and swamps, along riverbanks, and other places with plenty of freshwater. Their main diet consists of fish, which they spear with their long bills, but they will also eat crustaceans, small mammals, amphibians, and eggs. They have slight webbing between their hooves to help them not sink into mud, and long ears and tails to bat away mosquitoes and other bugs.

All Egredeer are hermaphroditic, though some people still describe them as 'male' or 'female' depending on their behavior. Some Egredeer live in fixed places where they build nests, and can be very territorial. These are sometimes called 'females', but people who want to be more accurate call them 'nesters'. Others are migratory, sometimes just prowling a stretch of riverbank, and sometimes traveling all the way across landmasses, and will try to impress the nesting individuals with elaborate mating dances. These are sometimes called 'male', but people who want to be more accurate call them ' wanderers'.
To complicate matters further, an Egredeer may display mixed behaviors (such as wandering but still having a nest, or staying put but performing mating dances when encountering another Egredeer). Furthermore, Egredeer who have previously fit neatly into one category may suddenly change behavior on a dime, or even seasonally, such as being nesters during the warmer parts of the year and wanderers solely during winter.
Egredeer are not strictly monogamous, but they form very close bonds with other beings (provided they are not snack-sized)
