He's perfected the art of making many different kinds of cheeses over the years, and offers quality even the humans struggle to meet. He's also changed his name in honor of her, 'Syrodel' literally meaning 'chesemaker' in the old tongue. Of course, to make cheese one must have milk, so in honor of Feeterina's name Syrodel raises dairy marmots. He is an excellent caretaker to them, and has named each after a kind of cheese.

Summers love for the sun is stronger than anything. Sadly there is not much Sunlight in Cor as the land sits underground. Therefore Summer tries her best to become a Beholder to be able to look at what she is missing out on and guard the one entrance that connects Cor with the world above, the bright world constantly drowned in sunlight.
The strong glow it emits, the warmth and the general color. Everything seems to call out for Summer. She doesn’t fulfill the requirements to become a Beholder. Too young, too small, too…. happy?
Summer is determined to feel the very sun on her pelt that she only ever gets to see from afar!

Prompt: Giros most prized possession is a brown leather collar that fell from the skies on a random day. Hanging from said collar dangles a shiny orange orb that seems to hold the Sun itself, the very creation that seems so important to the cats of Cor.
He wears it every day and every night, never takes it off. As a Beholder it’s Giros calling to protect the only connection Cor has to the “upper world” as the other Beholders call it. The Collar fell from said world down into the maw that marks the entrance to Cor. Others whisper about it and say he has been chosen to become the new Guardian of Cor and the only cat that will be able to freely leave the land and return to the upper world.

if there was one thing they could feel, it was the cold. it ran through the cobbled floors and howled through the underground city in grasping gusts, sinking its claws into every surface. there was a perpetual drip-drop of condensation dribbling from the stone ceiling far above, driving them closer to the brink of insanity with every droplet. they were cold and they were damp and they were hungry.

gods, was he hungry.

they hadn’t eaten more than a few scraps in the last few days and the longing for a bite of sweet relief was aching, gnawing. the shivering had only grown in intensity as night fell and the cold began to seep in. it was subtle, at first—after all, there was no sunset. but as the chittering of bats echoed through the cavern and the torchlight brightened, there was no mistaking it.

“you alright, kid?”

too weak to react any quicker, they sluggishly lift their head from their paws. nobody had ever stopped to talk to him.

to their surprise, it was the artificer from across the street. he was older, gruffer, and certainly didn’t seem like the type to be giving handouts, but they’d seen his glances from the windows of his shop, concern seeping through the glass. they just didn’t think he’d act on it. nobody ever did.

“kid?” he tilted his head, offering a paw. “how about we getcha some food next to my fire? whadda ya say?”

well, it couldn’t hurt, could it?

between the crackling fire beneath his workbench and the hearty stew that’d been simmering on the stovetop, the shivering soon subsided. they sat across from him on the woven rug, staring down at their paws.

“so,” he started, clearing his throat, “what’s yer name, kid?”

“i... i don’t..” they tried after a moment.

an eyebrow lifted in confusion. “you.. don’t have a name? well that won’t do.” he looked them up and down, deep in thought, gaze drifting about the room before landing on a certain shelf. “say, how about... steambird?”

with the passing of each season came yet another flock of customers. he was able to handle most of the orders himself now, fixing up old machines and making new little gadgets. the days had flown by since flintflare had taken them in, each spent apprenticing under him in exchange for food and shelter.

today was quieter. they’d been tinkering on something new to pass the time. flint’s still not up... he’s gonna love this. putting some final touches into it, they make their way upstairs.

the door already ajar, a wheeze drifts through the air.

“... flint..?”

another wheeze. they pad anxiously over to his bedside. “ah, there ya are.” he turns to face them with a grunt, something glistening in his feeble grasp. “i made ya this. here, try it on. something to remember me by.”

“what are you—”

“you’ll be alright, kid. make me proud, y’hear?”

it was a thoughtful gift, really, but it cost them everything.

the collar's gem has Several really neat functions!! glows like a torch, can fold out little legs to become a mechanical spider type thing, etc. and was clearly a really well-planned parting gift that he knew would be of use for them!! but MAN :,))))
