Their rock is a smooth stone from the bottom of the ocean. A deep slate grey that is perfectly smooth, having been on the ocean's floor for hundreds of years, yet has strange holes all throughout it. This happens when certain sea creatures, such as boring sponges, worms, and mollusks, create burrows in them! These creatures live in their stones, grinding through them as they get bigger and bigger, until they pop out the other side and must find a new stone to call home. Stone found theirs one day while walking the beaches. The holes confused them so they took it to another cat that knew the answer which delighted them. They've kept their little piece of the ocean floor with them since, as a treasure.

“the moon will guide you home.”

that was the phrase that he’d heard in a dream - that he’d felt in his bones - all those years ago.

aegaeon was only a kit back then, searching desperately for a family it had never known but that it knew must be out there. as distant as those memories were, the longing never ceased. it faded, sure, from a sharp pang in his chest to a constant, thrumming ache, but it never left. he wanted so desperately to know where - who - he came from.

every night, as the moon hung heavy above him in the black marble sky, aegaeon watched. waited. wished. as time continued to drag on, though, it found the hope that lingered in it’s mind more and more difficult to rationalize; waning, alongside the moon’s thinning crescent, until it was little more than an uncomfortable reminder of how little he knew about himself.

and then there was moonbeam.

he was a beacon; a flash of white fur and scarlet-ringed golden eyes, the epitome of elegance, softness, and light. he was everything aegaeon wasn’t. he was home. it was as though he hadn’t even realized what he was missing until suddenly moonbeam was there; a lantern guiding aegaeon through the choking fog that had clouded it’s mind for his entire life.

and then, in an instant, he was gone.

aegaeon remembered heat; a blistering heat and a harsh red glow behind his eyelids, as though the sun itself lay smoldering inches from his face. it remembered the calamitous tearing of branches, and how it’s heart had rattled against his ribs, racing faster than ever before. he remembered reaching for moonbeam and being greeted by empty space.

he remembered running, lungs heaving through the smoke, until his legs ached. and most vividly of all, he remembered squinting upwards through the smog, and being greeted by the moon’s gentle glow, beckoning him forth. the sensation was overwhelming - magnetic. the moon would guide him home, back to his lover. he knew with such profound certainty that it would.

the moon calls, and aegaeon listens.

Firesight awoke in a strange field lined by the pine trees she recognized from her colony's territory, though it lacked the scent markers or any scent at all that the colony's territory had. It looked so beautiful to Firesight, and the setting sun bathed the surrounding area in a warm orange light. She glanced around the clearing, looking for any signs of life other than the foliage.

"Hello?" She called out, which echoed through the trees.

As the echo died out, Firesight's ears were filled with the cawing of crows, which grew louder and louder behind her. She whipped around to face the noise. A large black and orange-furred cat stepped out of the forest and into the clearing with Firesight. She squinted against the sun directly behind him. She noticed strange silhouettes rising from the forest behind him.

"Who are you?" Firesight asked, but the cat remained silent and only stared with golden eyes.

Firesight's fur started to rise, something about this felt wrong. With the sun behind him, the strange cat appeared as nothing more than a shadow, and a new dark mist rising from around the stranger. The mist seemed to grow and fill the clearing as the birds' silhouettes and cawing grew closer and louder.

Suddenly, a yellow-eyed crow flew from the stranger's location. Its yellow eyes seemed to pierce into Firesight's soul as it grew closer with its claws outstretched. Loud caws echoed in her ears louder and louder as the mist circled her, yet she couldn't take her eyes off the yellow-eyed bird that reached for Firesight as the mist filled her eyes, casting her in darkness.

She awoke in her nest with a start, she could still hear the words echoing in her head.

"Beware the crow that bathes in the falling sun."

Morganus eyed the ancient deity with suspicion as they sifted through the black sand laid out before them. The god of prophecy foretold the future by spilling sand in front of him and letting his large, bejeweled paws sort through the grains. Each granule was heavy with the secrets of the universe, and hummed with the power of potential. These shifting sands were acquired from years of intense forge work on Morganus' end, and they treasured them greatly. They had been calling to him of late. The sands had never led him astray before...

Belial strolled into the gods' open-air courtroom where they held every meeting and council. His fiery mane shook with each step he took and his molten eyes, with their unsettlingly serpentine pupils, slowly, with one continuous, smooth, and deliberate movement landed on Morganus, god of prophecy. The two ancient beings stared the other down; magma-infused irises gazed into ones of the deepest amethyst, never wavering. Belial was the eldest of the Primordial deities, and thus felt inclined to take leadership of the other, less-experienced gods. He was a dangerous feline with a dangerous amount of power.

Morganus shifted his sand once more, not breaking eye contact. His vision erupted in a thick glaze of purples and blacks as his prophecy began.

Husky voices whispered in his ears:

"The ancient blood is thick
In the one who burns like a candlestick

His arrogance and influence will bloom
Only to spell out letters of doom

Let the ancient blood learn
Of the freedom they all yearn

And from his tyrannical chase
He will think not of grace

But of how to decimate a foe
With a form that is slow...

The deathless ones will hold
The fate of the world of old

To protect the lesser,
They must defeat the aggressor."
