連れて 闇に飲み込まれた ひとつの夢捜し求め 開く扉
I open a door, searching for a dream, once swallowed by darkness.

"This is your son."

Before him, was a small red kitten, peppered in white markings and so small you could hardly touch it in fear of harming them. The creature squealed and squirmed with discomfort as the poor thing didn't understand where he was at. The child couldn't have been much older then six moons. Above him was a tall beauty of a cat. Gold and shining in bright color, as if they were a beacon. She had teal eyes that contrasted her coat in such a nice manner.

Marmalade stood in shock. The red tom was gay, and didn't think about the last time he had been with a female. Though this lady was beautiful, he wasn't sure how it could have been possible. He Was still young however, and mistakes did happen, surely he didn't make this mistake.

The kitten looked up at him with bright eyes that reminded him of the sunset. He softened, as he could feel the fear from the child. "How?" He couldn't help but ask, where had this kid come from.

The female sighed. "I am only here to drop him off, the mother doesn't wish to see you." She attempted to confort the child. "I did the dna test, and you are the father. Please take him."

Marmalade seemed shocked. The boy did resemble him in many ways. The white markings were unusual, but that didn't matter. It was decided, the boy would be apart of his family from then on out. "I'll take him home, I couldn't dare abandon any child."

"Good." With that, the golden beauty left the kitten in Marmalade's hands, and as she left she gave a small nod to the warrior. "Thank you."

He looked down at his new child, it seemed scared, unable to speak in the situation. He was old enough to do so, so it surprised his father that he hadn't yet. "What do you think little one? Want to come home with me?"

The small child didn't seem to respond much to this. Simply gazed up quietly. No smile. Nothing. This made Marmalade's stomach turn a bit. What will he do if the child didn't speak to him ever? Was his child deaf, and he wasn't told? This scared him deeply, so he tried again with concern lining his voice. "Young one, what is your name?"

"Name?"

Marmalade smiled a tinge. Good that he could speak at least, but what did he just say? Did he not know what a name was? How sad. Marmalade had to rectify this as quick as possible. "A name, you know, what others call you." He lifted a paw. "Most call me Marmalade, but you can call me Father if you like."

The child looked up in interest, but stayed quiet for sometime. "My mother called me little one." His voice was so soft, so quaint.

Marmalade thought for a moment. Giving it some good thought as a name was important. It was surprising that the child's mother didn't think of a name. Did she not like him that much? With great hope that the child would become as strong as him one day, bravery came to mind. "Your name, shall be Isamu."

Isamu tipped his head in confusion. "Isamu?"

Marmalade nodded. "Yes Isamu. Around these parts it means bravery. I hope to see you become strong someday, and a name like this is one to grow into okay?" He walked around Isamu with a tall and confidant posture, making the child duck a little. "Now come along, let's head home."

土の下に 巡る雨 その柔らかい せせらぎ
The rain murmurs softly as it soaks the earth.

Known to be resilient, powerful, cunning, resourceful, benevolent, selfless, stoic, and so much more. Standing tall upon the rock beneath his feet, with a mane of brilliant sunset colors. Vibrant eyes, and stunning posture. This being is looked upon with such magnificence it is hard to stand up to such strength, such perfection. The feline was so much braver then Isamu could ever dream of being. Marmalade. His father. His mentor. The man that he had to follow in the footsteps of, but didn't quite manage.

The two of them, Marmalade and Isamu, were together almost all the time. Walking side by side almost looking identical in certain lights. Of course Isamu had more white, was smaller, and not quite as scruffy as his father. He also didn't hold the same stance or confidence. Often times this had Marmalade nudging him, trying to pick him up off the floor of despair or fear. All the same, however, Isamu wasn't the type to be ostentatious. Rather would prefer to keep to himself, and focus on the little things in life.

Most of the time, Marmalade let Isamu be whoever Isamu desired to be. The younger feline was distant from others, and would often be caught sitting silently amongst flowers, foliage, and the local fauna. Isamu seemed most content alone to his devices, and sticking to exploring quietly in areas that weren't as observed as others.

Isamu did have friends, and he would spend his time with them quite often. There was the elder Kinan, whom he visited, and listened for long hours to his radical, and outlandish tales, and the much closer aged Yima, who was squire just like him. The two would train together quite often under the supervision of his father, and on rarer occasions, sneak off to have some chaotic fun together. Young trouble as it could be called. Yima usually would drag the lesser inclined kitten to do something not super savory, but hardly dangerous in the long term. Usually things such as playing in abandoned warehouses where traps, and other dangers lied about.

Yima had so much more energy then Isamu ever could have, and was so much more lively as well. Everyone always seemed better to him. Always had strengths he could never seem to reach. His father was perfection of course, Yima had ideas and the energy to enact them, Kinan was always coming up with the most unique things you couldn't ever come up with. Isamu was just... Isamu. Even his own mother didn't want him.

It was said that his mother left the kingdom, and Marmalade always insisted that she didn't leave him behind, but rather had no other choice. What was the choices though, and his father never went into any more detail. It was clear that it was a way to save his child heart from being hurt. On top of all of it, the knight wanted his son to also be a knight. A protector of the kingdom, and a person for others to look up to. He didn't want that, but didn't know how to tell his kin.

He didn't know what he wanted. He was hesitant to ask.

明ける夜がこの手を
The break of dawn pulls on my hand

Isamu had decided to take a different road then normal. The young feline was getting near to adult hood, and most of the time his father let him be on his own. At this very moment, the cat was deciding to take a longer road to practice then the usual. It was a busier path filled with other cats that were out and about on business for that early morning. None of which were paying the quiet one any mind, and it helped to get him used to a more rambunctious lifestyle that a knight would entail.

Many shops lined the stone path from food stalls, book stores, to clothing shops. The morning was lively enough that Isamu took his time to examine each one, and then move onto the next before he was noticed by a passerby, or the shopkeeper themselves. Eventually, the gold pelt had found itself crossing by a small stand that smelled incredibly good. Turning to look the stall had lied out several sugary goods from tarts to cupcakes all decorated in bright whimsical colors. Isamu could feel himself salivating at the thought of confectionaries.

After a moment of staring, he reminded himself that he disliked sweets, and it was a warriors way to be strong, and valiant. Being cute, or desiring anything of the like would make him weak. He hesitated. It looked so good. The way the frosting swirled on the top of many of the food items on display. A large round blue face peaked over the counter at him, and Isamu realized that he had been caught.

The face had extremely welcoming eyes, and a smile that looked like it could last for days. The solid cat had a cute handkerchief wrapped around his neck that had little watermelon art all over it. "Welcome to Berry n' Melon! Would you like a free sample?" She seemed sweet, and had a very soothing tone as she gestured over to what looked like mini cupcakes with little sugar blueberries and watermelon candies on top of them.

this made Isamu think for a moment. He didn't like this sort of stuff so there was no point. If he was caught eating sweets in public it could ruin his reputation. He shivered at the thought of his father scolding him for this weakness. The cupcakes looked back at him with a shine. It couldn't hurt to try one he supposed, but if he actually liked it what would he do? He can't admit it no matter what. The desire of it all pressured him into it however. Isamu, slowly, approached the plate of samples, reached up with a paw, and plopped one onto his tongue.

It was so good. The tanginess, sweetness, and texture were all perfect. His eyes shined in joy as he had never had something so nice in his life. He also shivered. The squire was trying to prove something, and sure enough he was wrong. What would the others do to him, what would happen? Surely he would be locked up deep in some dungeon to never be seen again. As he pulled himself out of it, he heard the owner trying to get his attention. Something about "-they're really cheap if you-" but before he could catch any of it, he had bolted off away from the stall. He was late for training.

When finally arriving at the field, Isamu's friend was waiting for him. There sat Yima, looking unusually exauhsted, alone licking the back of his paw. Prodding forward, he could not find Marmalade anywhere, and worried about what was going on. Soon enough however, launching from behind him was a loud roar. The knight had bellowed at his son, and sent the poor kitten jumping out of his skin a crossed the field.

"Your late." Isamu had swiveled to face his father, eyes wide and hackles raised. "If you ever wish to be a knight, you better take your training more seriously Isamu."

Isamu whined. "but-"

But Marmalade didn't seem to give him the chance. "Yima was here a whole hour early. You should learn from your companion. Get started on your stretches."

With a head hung low, Isamu began the simple movements, as his friend seemed to rest for a short bit. It almost seemed as if Yima was laughing at him internally, but Isamu knew his friend always meant well. Perhaps he shouldn't have spent so much time in the stalls, then the cat wouldn't have ended up eating that delicious pastry, and would never know that he actually liked sweets. Yet another secret he had to hide away from the world.

やがて 晴れ渡る空 時を越えて ただ 横たわる広さに 気づいた
Soon the skies will clear. I can see how far it stretches above me.

It was dawn, the sun barely poking over the horizon making a beautiful array of violets and terracotta's. Everything was hued with vibrant light, and shadow. A ceremony was taking place, where at the town center, hundreds of cats were surrounding a plaza of stone. Up atop a couple of stairs was a mighty red rosette staring down at all the felines with both pride, and strength. His stance was of confidence.

He called out to the crowd in a booming voice. "Isamu, Yima, please arise." He seemed to be searching the crowd for the two, a slight concern almost grasping his eyes before returning to the previous stance.

Soon enough, two cats came out from the crowd. One of them was a brilliant golden, matching the sunrise in the distance, and the other was black, a sharp contrast to the other feline. The two were relatively the same size, the dark one maybe slightly taller, while the gold one seemingly more built in stature. They were both fully grown cats.

Marmalade, the red cat who stood way above them, announced the next words with pleasure. "These two have been on a long journey under my wing. Today, they take the final trial, and become Knights of Tsuki no Usahgi. I have no doubt in my heart that-"

During this whole speech, the golden cat, also known as Isamu, had been staring at the ground shaking. His face had twisted in discomfort, and his body language was quite the opposite of his friend Yima. At the point of Marmalade talking where he reached the final phrase before the challenges Isamu found a small amount of courage, and interrupted his father.

"I don't want to be a Knight." He bellowed. His body shifted dramatically when doing so, and fear slowly erupted on his face. Much of the crowd behind him began whispering amongst themselves about the situation, full of shock that a squire would do something at the last moment. "I... I..." He was hesitant to say the next thing he so desired, but the courage had left him.

Marmalade seemed to look down at him with disdain, but unbeknownst to Isamu, it was for far different reasons that the child held. This did, however, make the younger feline freeze and shuffle about nervously. He didn't know where to go from here, he just interjected into a very important moment. The moment his friend finally became a warrior like he always desired

Luckily, or unlucky, for Isamu, a large crash also invaded the space. Growling erupted from the distance, and the land began to crumble before the cats surrounding the square. Structures that surrounded the area were falling apart before them, and to protect everyone, it seemed Marmalade jumped into action. So did Yima.

Isamu was frozen. Frozen in fear. As a large creature bigger then any of them towered over the city, the small cat could only look up in complete horror as other scattered for there lives. You could hear Marmalade hissing above all the noise, his hackles raised as he faced the monster. The being looked a lot like a feline itself, but ten times larger then anything it surrounded. Its visage seemed faded like an illusion, but it was clear it was able to corrode the area around it.

Yima yelled back to his friend. "RUN Isamu." Yima knew his friend more then anyone, that being said, no form of yelling seemed to make the golden pelt move even a little. Yima couldn't afford to look back to make sure his friend was okay.

The creature bellowed incoherent noises, and Marmalade responded to them by launching underneath. Yima's eyes widened. "NO!" It was to late, Marmalade was already in the fray. Tears began to sweep down Isamu's face. It seemed like nothing could be done. In a moment however, the creature began to fade, and what lied beneath it were two felines in a scuffle. Two cats of the same size.

Marmalade was covered in wounds, but so was his opponent. The enemy had a hold of Marmalades glorious tail, and for that moment, Isamu was able to move. He launched forward alongside his father, calling Yima to join him. The three ganged up on the isolated pest, and took him down where he stood.

Other guards came in quick to help assist taking the enemy cat away, and it seemed Kiiro, the royal doctor, was there to assist in the injuries. It all went over rather quickly, and it seemed the three of them were helped to a safer location.

"I'm sorry father, I just can't. I just" Tears had still flowed down his face, but there seemed to be a calmness on his fathers.

Marmalade seemed calm. All covered in bandages in the soft feather bed made for him. He looked at his son, with a look that seemed not of anger, or hostility, but acceptance. "Shhh... It's okay Isamu. It's okay." He cooed softly as he watched his child go from panic, to eventually a calmer space.

It had taken a short while, but his patience came through. His son wiped his tears and looked to his family for guidance. "I don't know what to do."

"Do whatever makes you truly happy. I accept you for whoever you want to be."
