there was an theatrical aura that radiated from the stranger, enthralling her in a false loveliness and an uncanny sort-of air.

and oddly enough, eyes of nectarine and sun-riped fruit, brightened at the sight of the vermillion flesh of death incarnate. “well… this should work just fine!” the honeyed lilit of furzetuft’s voice seemed to flutter an octave higher with barely disguised elation. “thank you so much! this is exactly what i- nevermind.”

and in an alluring, yet hurried, flourish… the stranger was gone in a whirlwind of stardust and souls lost to space and time.

it was as if the stranger had sucked the life from the surronding flora and fauna of the forest… and left in her place, only wilted yellow flowers, crickets and an all too familiar fruit remained.

but something was off… zara could sense it in the way the forest shifted. by the way, it seemed to dissipate into silence before swelling in a virid flourish as a throaty drawl embellished the forest.

“hello? is anyone there?” and from the thicket, an unfamiliar face emerged from the inkdrop dark. “have y’all seen anyone wanderin’ about? her name’s furzetuft… and i need to find her. quick.”

Envy observed Furzetuft's reaction to the deathberries, masking her silent concern. However, what wasn't masked was a large leap Envy took backwards when the cat disappeared in an array of beautiful stars and cosmic energy. Something about it felt.. ominous, to her anyway. As the stardust dissipated, Zara moved forward, observing the ground Furzetuft had just been standing upon.

"She got onto us for butchering trees, but her grand exit left behind wilted flowers and... bugs?" Zara said with a curious narrowing of her eyes. "I'm glad that's over with. Were you serious about not tearing up the trees anymore?"

"Yeah, especially after her grand exit. Is she some being sent by the stars? She seemed too.. ordinary, for something like that." Envy remarked. "Actually, that makes sense. The stars would want someone who blends in." Envy realized as she shook her head, wringing the useless thoughts out before pressing on.

"Is it just me, or did she seem way too excited about those Deathberries?" Envy inquired out loud as Zara and her began to walk together after retrieving their leaves of herbs. "Her eyes glinted with this.. not malice, maybe.. anticipation?" Envy continued, gazing at the sky. "It was odd. I hope I do not cause the death of an innocent cat, though if it is a horrific one..." Envy trailed off as Zara's tail lashed over her mouth, a motion for her to hush.

The soft breakage of grass and leaves echoed from in front of them; they weren't alone. Envy's ears pinned forward, listening eagerly before a cat emerged from the brush -- it was Thea, a scavenger for the Heart of Decay. She was a soft orange cat with white scattered throughout her pelt, a variety of yellow flowers weaved through her pelt and donned across her head, with golden eyes to match perfectly.

"Envy, Zara! I knew I heard ya guys." Thea said as a big smile made its way across her face. "Glad to see you two are doing okay! It sounded like you were talking to someone else, though, where did they wander off to?"

"It's a peculiar situation. Don't fret about it, Thea." Envy said reassuringly with a soft purr. "Want to join us while we finish this border patrol?"

"Might as well! I was just getting some new flowers for my crown, these other ones are wilting pretty quickly after that last storm." Thea said with a soft huff. And so, the three would make it a few paces forward before another cat emerged from the brush, one that the group had missed due to their conversation.

"What now?" Zara groaned. Thea turned her head towards Fennel, her ears perking up.

"Woah, you're sneaky!" Thea purred out.

The group would go silent as Fennel began to speak. They inquired about Furzetuft, in a hastily way that caught the attention of Envy.

"Furzetuft? She was just here, asking for herbs and food." Envy explained, her green and orange eyes suddenly widening as her gaze shifted to the ground. "You need to find her, quick, you say? Well, you just missed her. She disappeared before our eyes, like she burst into stars and left behind some wilted flowers. That was right after we gave her some deathberries. You don't believe she is planning anything brash, do you?" Envy's tone had gradually grown more concerned as her speech went on, but she snapped out of it as she felt a fluffy tail caress her back.

"Relax. Anything she does is not of your fault." Thea quickly reassured her. "But, bursting into stars...?"

"I can show you the spot if you don't believe us. Both of you." Zara challenged from the back of the group, her eyes narrowing. She was wary of this new feline, though not as on edge as she was with Furzetuft. Something about his concern yowled compassion, not anything of danger.

"In any case, we'll help you look for Furzetuft. I'm sure she couldn't of gone far." Envy reassured Fennel. "Though, may I ask why you need to find her quickly?"

Everbound hurried around her small building, looking for anymore herbs she could use. To her perfectionist dismay, there was nothing. The witch grumbled to herself when Elysia walked in, disrupting her frustrations.

“What’s the matter, Everbound?” The well intended servant asked.

“I’m out of herbs!” The witch grumbled. Elysia simply gave a small frown.

“I do not believe any of the runners are available, although I can go out with you if you’d like?” Elysia asked politely, wrapping her tail around her front paws. Everbound simply nodded and glanced up at the kingdom servant.

“Please,” Everbound murmured as she walked past, clearly determined. “I must get more resources.” Elysia nodded and gestured to the door with her head. The servant used her paw to open the door before leading the way out of the witches cabin.

Everbound soon took the lead out of the kingdom, searching for herbs she could use. It was a miracle the servant had even agreed to tag along with the stigma surrounding the witch. Noises were able to be heard around the outside of the kingdom, wings, twinkles, screeches. With all the creatures that lived around the kingdom Everbound was on high alert. She was almost certain a small dragon could be viewed overhead.

Elysia tagged along, padding behind the witch carefully. Her tail was closer to the ground as she looked around. The witch was clearly on a mission, Elysia may not have understood the determination in Everbound’s eyes, she knew better than to get in her way. Fluttering of a pixie could be heard nearby, but Elysia knew better than to pay it any attention.

Everbound hurried along with a purpose in her step. Her coloured fur stood out against the forested backdrop. Elysia gazed out to everything beyond them, her eyes distant. With a glance back, Everbound saw and tilted her head.

“Elysia?” She inquired with a pause.

“Hm? Oh, yes?” Elysia replied with a small jump and puff of her tail, embarrassed to be caught.

“Everything okay?”

“Yes, Everbound, everything is fine, I just zoned out. The landscape is gorgeous..” The servant mumbled thoughtfully. Everbound was almost surprised to hear the servant call her by her actual name, used to being called ‘witch’. With this, Everbound simply nodded in response to the other cat's reasoning and continued on.

She was always wary of any creature sneaking up on them, pixies were a sneaky thing. A feather could be spotted nearby. A griffin. Everbound made a mental note that one could be lingering nearby. Griffins were nasty things, could carry off a youngling with no struggle. Their claws sharp as daggers too, the types of creatures the elders told stories of to scare the younglings and learners.

Elysia didn’t seem to take notice of the griffin feather, her gaze wandering to the more minute things. A scorched branch. Unicorn hair. A phoenix burns on the leaves. Everbound glanced back over and flicked her tail in response to the mental absence of the servant.

“You don’t get out much, do you?” Everbound inquired. Elysia simply shook her head in response and the witch nodded. With that, the search continued.

shades of nectarine and buttery yellows had adorned the valleys with a flourish of sunshine. its every nuance had drenched the witch in an alluring sort-of radiance, crowning her with a barely tangible halo of iridiscence.

but something wasn’t right.

the delicate thrum of the earth beneath her toes had cresendoed into a groan as if reality had become an orchestra and the world, its instrument.

the witch felt the shift in the marrow of her bones… in the vermillion flush of her blood as an abyss yawned open before her.

she had never known an oblivion quite so beautiful.

its inkdrop blackness had been bewitching, its darkness a melody as shades of indigo eddied and swirled as if it were a saltwater sea corrupted by hellish desires. and within its hellish depths, there was a pulse. there was an inscrutable bloom of life that existed in a state of flora and fauna.

it was only then when she saw past the enigmatic beauty of oblivion. it was only then when she saw its inkdrop blackness morph into fangs as it hummed against her skin.

Elysia led Cressa out after having brought Everbound back to her place so she could tend to her wound. Her steps were more cautious now as the servant waited for the guard to speak. “Why did you go out there with Everbound?” Cressa questioned with a stern tone. “You don’t know what that witch is capable of, Elysia! You must be careful around her.”

“Yes..” The servant cat mumbled, her tail tucked. “Everbound really means no harm! You must understand.”

“You do not understand, Elysia, did you see what happened to her? That black abyss that injured her? That could have been you, Elysia, you must understand!” Cressa emphasized warily. Meanwhile, Elysia just sunk her head down and took the berating. The moon waned in the distance as she suddenly felt lonely.

“I know, Cressa,” Elysia murmured. “Everbound really means no harm, you ought to trust me! We just went out to get her more herbs.”

“You don't know, though.” Cressa said firmly, taking the lead as they walked farther from the kingdom. The servant's tail tucked between her legs timidly. It was pointless to argue with the guard. Cressa simply kept her head high as they walked. She did not enjoy berating the less experienced servant, but she didn’t see an alternative. Elysia gazed off as they walked, picking up on the small details that she had noticed Everbound spotting earlier. Charred wood, feathers, hoof prints.

Cressa noticed what the younger she-cat was doing and flicked her tail. Elysia noticed the gesture and glanced up slightly but remained in silence in order to not provoke the older cat. As they walked the silence between them remained, a looming presence that neither of the cats could seem to break. It followed them like a cloud.

Elysia convincing Cressa to get Everbound’s herbs was a miracle in itself and the younger cat was not going to take that risk of provoking the other. Although, the younger servant was not quite certain where they were going and she had to break the thick silence. “Cressa, where are we going?” Elysia questioned softly, her tail flicking behind her.

“To find some herbs, Elysia,” The older cat responded simply.

“I know that, Cressa, but this doesn’t look like kingdom territory anymore.”

Those words cause Cressa to halt, she hadn’t realized they had wandered so far. The kingdom's territory was massive, so to have wandered out was weird. Elysia saw how startled the older cat was and her tail puffed out in caution. Cressa glanced around carefully to take in their surroundings before she turned to Elysia.

“We can find the way back,” she reassured, her nose twitching to pick up any unknown scents. “We can’t be that far out at this point, it appears you caught on pretty quickly.” The praise caused Elysia to puff up slightly and she nodded. Elysia glanced around to their surroundings and took it all in. Cressa was right, they couldn’t be that far out from the kingdom, could they?

the scant fragrance of rose petals and seafoam permeated the unknown, lingering in gales thick with petrichor. traces of flora freckled the gently rolling hills in a burst of viridiscent hues, seeming to become increasingly animated beneath the fading evening lights and the muted chirp of crickets.

but there was a faint glimmer in the distance… a opulence sporadically fading in and out of reality.

and there it was.
it seemed to blossom beneath the weight of her stare, each rosy shade becoming more vibrant and seemingly flamboyant as the servant leaned in close. there was an intoxicating charm about the little rose, its petals perfectly preserved in an endless spiral as the rose lay…. utterly enthralling whilst surrounded by stained glass.

His paws pressed into the white plane beneath him, leaving a trail behind. His head swiveled around the area, scanning the terrain around him. He stopped, his tail swaying lowly behind him, his ears twitching. Snow crunched around him, and he turned his head to find the sound. Who was it? Why were they there?

"Kei!" A voice huffed from behind him, sounding very winded. He knew that voice all too well. He turned around to face the familiar yowls. His eyes narrowed, his ears shooting back against his skull. His voice came out gruff, almost like a growl. "What do you want, Kaen." He questioned, his lips curling up in what could only be described as disgust.

"Nice to see you, too," the cat, assumingly called 'Kaen' shot back. "Did you really think you could just leave without me noticing? You're even more delusional than I thought, if you did." He spat out, his voice full of venom. "You can't just leave and figure no one would know! What about Evangeline? Huh? Were you just going to leave her there?"

Keishi's eyes practically flew open and lowered his stance threateningly. "Don't you dare. Don't bring her into this." He couldn't believe the fire-colored cat in front of him. How dare he. "Then don't just leave without telling anyone anything! That's not fair to anyone, you know that!"

"Angel knows I'm leaving; you can't use her against me." He mumbled, his tail shifting between his legs. He seemed regretful, if only for a second. "I'm dangerous, and you know that. I can't keep putting her in danger. You of all cats should know how much of a wreck I am."

"Gods, if for only a moment could you just stop wallowing in self-pity and be there for any of us? Evangeline especially." Kaen closed the distance between the two, their tracks merging together to make a slushie mess. "If you're leaving, I'm coming with you. It's only fair." His voice lowered, like he didn't want to say those words.

Keishi looked bewildered. After several minutes of confused staring, he finally spoke. "What? Like Hell's Bells you are!" His voice was louder this time, full of shock and confusion. "You'll just kill me the first chance you get, I know you will!"

"For being looked up to by others for being smart, you sure are stupid." Kaen barked out a laugh, his tail swaying. "Stop being foolish. You left with the intent of dying, anyways. It's cold and you brought no supplies. Anyone with any ounce of intelligence would know that." He stepped closer, almost nose-to-nose with him, searching his creamy brown eyes, Keishi returning the favor. "Why you're doing it is my only question. Why you're leaving everyone like this. Why you're leaving Evangeline like this." His fiery eyebrows creasing together, his tone going serious. "How stupid can you be to leave us like this?

Keishi huffed, not able to deny Kaen's claims. He backed up and turned away from him, starting to walk. "Guilt. I guess. It's the only thing to describe what I feel. I can't look at her the same. I can't look at her and pretend that I'm not the cause of her scars, of her trauma, of how she's treated differently because of it. No one says it aloud, but I know they blame me, too."

"Well," Kaen started, "I'm coming, too. Like it or not, I'm fond of Evangeline, and I won't have her mate dying just because he's guilty of an accident he may or may not have caused." He soon followed Keishi, which annoyed him to no end.

SwiftStar was alone, or at least, she was supposed to be. The woods were barren, dead as the stream which had dried up months ago. The dry season was harsh, but she'd manage. After all, she chose to voyage away from her clan, she chose this path and now she had to deal with it. The first season is always the worst, she had told herself. But she found her resolve cracking as she explored this unappealing territory. Would it really be too hard to go back to her old clan and beg them to take her back? She perked up, hearing a sudden twig snap. Never mind trying to find a nice place for a den, she had to check that out! The territory of falling stars was vast and lonely, so, like any curious leader, she approached the noise. But after wasting half the day on the noise she decided to give up. The brown tabby’s nose twitched at the mention of deathberries, a flash of amusement brushing across their face before they huffed through their nose. “No. You may not ask.” Fennel bluntly responded, before their tail waved in the air, dismissing the conversation completely. “There is no worries here. I shall go find here. But thank you for offering.” Their ear twitched, paw brushing against the ground and revealing a shiny stone. “But take this, for your attempted generosity.”

Before the cats could even open their mouths to thank the stranger, Fennel was gone, nothing but a brush of the grass being evidence of them being there. Thea and Envy looked around, searching for where the cat might’ve gone, as Zara stepped up, nose pressing against the shiny stone and her ears perking as it glew at the brush of her breath. After a moment, she sneezed, shaking her head.

“Woah, Zara, you okay?” Thea’s ear twitched as she stepped up beside her friend, her shoulder brushing against hers as her eyebrows furrowed.

Zara shook her head, rolling her shoulders and raising her head, putting on a brave face despite the exhaustion feeling like a heavy stone in her skull. “No, I’m okay. Think I’m just tired.” She reassured, tongue brushing across the fur of her friend’s head before she turned around to face Envy as well. “What do you say we find something to eat?”

The group agreed before splitting up, pawsteps light on the grass. It didn’t take long for them to all meet up again, all findings falling in the middle. The only piece of prey found was a squirrel, however it was plump enough for them all to share. Envy had also found a few stalks of herbs, twining them into Zara’s fur like they would heal the sickness starting to shine on her face.
