It's a week-long celebration that culminates at the end of the month of Darkfreeze. Colourful decorations in bright, warm colours can be seen all across town, and praise to the fire and sun gods are given in hope of keeping warm throughout the winter. The last night of Darkfreeze into the month of Newrise is known as First Light, bringing with it an end to the dark days and welcoming a new year. Traditionally, kals stay up all night to keep the fire going until first light, hence the name of the day. In many towns and cities, a communal bonfire is tended, with kals coming together to help - dancing, singing, feasting, and exchanging gifts. A log from that fire is always kept for next year's fire.

Prompt: holidays? yeah. you better believe palden celebrates holidays. he once arranged a month-long intergalactic tour where, every day, he'd end up on a different planet right as one of their most major holidays hit. the logistics of this were downright stupid and involved an unstable wormhole, but palden managed to hit a solid seventeen alien holidays in a row before the wormhole (fickle as wormholes are) fragmented, and he was left stranded in an uninhabited sector of space for another week, with lots of leftovers to tide him over.
