Is there anything you all wish you knew when you started?

Adopt everything. It lets you adopt 14 dogs? Adopt all 14 dogs. Grab everything you can.

Put any duplicates of any pets you have in a pet group for trading.

Don't trade any unknown rarity pets because you may get lucky and adopt a rarer outcome pet in a litter and you won't know that until the pet gets its rarity.

Don't trade unless you know the value of all pets involved.

Don't trade the pets you Adopt on 12/18 at all.

piggybacking off of that! on december 18th chicken smoothie has an event where they re-release old pets. it's completely free, and i recommend adopting as many of the boxes that they give you for that advent calendar. they are only available on that day (on cs time! always at the bottom of your screen), so make sure you don't miss it. additionally, do not trade these pets until you're certain of their worth. older users may send you trades that look very enticing! but, don't take it. there will be forums you can ask for advice on trades on, use those if you can.

even omgsr pets for your newborn pet may be super convincing, but keep in mind some pets are worth much more than that. it's the luck of the draw and you don't want to make any mistakes if you get something good. i honestly just recommend putting the 18th pets in a locked group so nobody can bug you. good luck!

I'd recommend adopting all of the Advent Calendar pets (under the adopt tab) every day, and don't miss Dec. 18! On that day you have the chance to get old, rare pets. [Edit-- sorry, I didn't see that someone just said that right above me] Definitely check out the guides that axelandria gave you, those are what helped me most when I started (almost a year ago now) and always ask on the "Is This a Fair Trade" thread if you receive a trade with rarer/older pets.

If you'd like to get into trading right off the bat, I'd recommend the 2:1 method at first (basically, it means that 2 very commons = 1 common, 2 commons =1 uncommon) but only with pets below rare. Watch out for dates, too, because older pets are worth a lot more.

Also what helped me build up my pet collection was adoption centers!
