CS$ Inflation

Postby Shado » Sun Oct 01, 2023 1:54 pm

Has anyone noticed an uptick in the CS$ Store price lately? We used to be able to get store pets much cheaper than they currently are! in 2021 pets 4 store pets for $60 and 5 store pets were 70 CS$.. today the new store pets came out at 100 CS$ for four! Has anyone else noticed this uptick? I at least thought Chicken Smoothie of all places would be spafe from inflation... at least inflation not caused by users that is. Image Image Image

Does the C$ from each store pets go directly to the creator? Because that I would understand the reasoning for prices. If a creator is new and doesn't have as much C$ maybe they can price as they wish. If that C$ doesn't go to the creator though that actually seems a little odd for me at least - I'd hope they're getting paid real money if not.

Thank God I'm not the only one! Whats going on?? Surely it doesnt "cost" more to design these new store pets? If so, why has the amount of CS$ we get when purchasing with REAL MONEY not increase along side it? :/

But these pets have come from a creator that has been around since 2022. Image I would totally be behind that if that were the case, but I highly doubt that the indivuidual creator gets ALL of the CS$ from each store pet purchase.

if i were to put my best guess in, it is to combat the current ongoing inflation in the c$ economy? the reasoning behind the new limited item sets was to be a method in order to pull more c$ out of the economy, as there is a substantial amount in the hands of cs users- therefore causing its value to go down. perhaps that wasn't working very well, so they decided to increase the value of store pets as well to see how the playerbase would react?

but, i do find it unfortunate, and i'm disliking this change. to go from 70 c$ for five pets, to 100 c$ for four pets just feels weird after it was a more concrete price for such a long time. i do understand why. it happened, but rip to users that can't pull that 100. at least the bwolves are super pretty...

    i read that cs artists are never paid in money as they're volunteers, but they're always paid in c$ afaik

I completely agree 100 is really steep for old repeat line art as well and only four pets with no additional extra as a bundle. Its completely understandable if the lineart was heavily edited/new/completely different but it isn't at all

I understand your reasoning, but how is this helping the inflation? When we buy directly from the store, as far as I am aware it's not like the CS$ somehow makes its way back into another users account. It is simply gone to the abyss.. This might be an unpopular opinion but maybe if its the case if a few users hoarding too much CS$, maybe admins should put a hard cap on the total amount any user can accumulate at once?

If anyone has any suggestions on how we can get the CS$ economy flowing I (and I'm sure the upper echoleons) would love to hear it!

It is most likely, as lyney mentioned, because there's too much C$ circulating within the playerbase, and really nothing substantial to spend it on. While a good majority of users don't tend to have more than, say, 300 C$ at any given time, there are many other users who have 1,000+, sometimes in the range of the 10-thousands and even more than that. That's why, it seems, the prices for store pets have increased, and why limited item sets were re-introduced, to hopefully siphon some of that C$ out of the community and help to stabilize the value of C$. More could definitely be done, and I feel more needs to be done, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Edit to reply to the above comment;
It's the same with any other game that has its own currency. Neopets has Neopoints and their premium currency, and obviously those aren't just going into someone else's digital pocket, they're just taken and replaced with an item or whatever else one might purchase. It's the same concept here, C$ are basically like a "credit" that you hang onto until you want to "turn it in" for something later on.
