entry: Huddled around the fire, the small group of serps stop for a small break in their task of searching for runestones. One serpent lifts his head and asks if the others would like to hear a story. The others agree, and Miasma begins.
Long ago, when the two lands were as one, there was a portal. It connected the two worlds of Kruba and Abruk, both places where serpents roamed freely. Those of both realms were peaceful, and often helped one another in their daily tasks. The portal was always open, and allowed those who wished to freely travel between the two lands. All serpents respected the portal, keeping it clean and helping power it with a small bit of their energy. However, some young serpents thought it foolish to do such a thing. They used the portal often, but never lent it their power or helped with itโs upkeep. Their continued usage of it in such ways made other serps think that they could do the same, and each day more and more copied the young.
The serpents were unaware of the portalโs true value, however. It was not merely a tool, but instead an ally. It became fed up with the serpents allowing it to decay from a lack of energy and the plants that were slowly growing into it. As one of the original young passed through it one day, the portal took itโs chance and began to forcefully take the serpents power. The adolescent was drained when it got through the portal, and was severely weakened, unable to cross back into its home. It became the first victim of the portal, and it was found the energy the portal stole had been taken forever, used to keep the portal intact.
When the serpents found the young and heard what had happened, they were shocked. They believed the portalโs attack to be unjust, and decided to close it. They worked hard, but while they were attempting to close it, several more serps came through and became weakened, as they were unaware of what the others were doing. They had been unable to send a messenger out due to the risks. One serpent volunteered to warn the other side, knowing that they were going to lose both their powers and their home on their side of the portals. They succeeded, and the land was warned. Both sides pitched in to help, and eventually the portal closed. To distinguish between the worlds that had once been one, the serpents who had found out about the problem first had given the messenger a request: give the land on the other side the name of โKrubaโ. The serpent did as he was told, and the land became two. Kruba and Abruk, Abruk and Kruba.
The messenger vanished after the portal was destroyed, never to be seen again.
Miasma gives a grin, asking the others what they thought. One serpent, a young one by the looks of it, asks if it is true. Miasma looks him in the eye and says โI was there to witness it.โ
