purride wrote:I personally think adding four would be best in the long term. I hear that it may be overwhelming at first, but as someone who has been on this site a LONG time (and hope to be for a long time in the future), it just makes more sense to me. SO many pets are added each year, that 5-10 years from now, I think spreading them all across a larger scale would make it far less intimidating for newcomers.
I agree with you! The smaller changes may seem more palatable upon implemention but with the amount of new pets I worry that those would possibly require another modification soon. The four new labels seem like the solution that would last while making trades easier and just streamlining the game.

in regards to pets "losing value" and feeling like you paid too much for the pet, consider this: without change, you will continue to pay more than what the pet you want is worth.
yes, you might have paid for a VR and now it's sitting at R. that is frustrating. but in the future, the VR you always wanted is now a R and thus easier to get. and it's not like all pets will suddenly go down a tier, there's plenty chance that the UC you currently have and traded for will get a higher tier.
This how i personally feel as a casual player, in any case.
I think change - of whatever kind - to the rarity system is inevitable. so whether it's adjusting the distribution or adding new labels, the current rarity of some pets will change, and we will have a better understanding of what a pet is actually worth according to the system, and that is, in my opinion, worth the trade-off (pun intended). So it might as well happen now haha

very well said! I’m a casual trader now but I didn’t use to be. I think all of this makes a lot of sense, even if it ends up turning out I overpaid for a lot of things before. honestly, the problem of almost
having to overpay to get trades accepted is one of the more unpleasant struggles with trading nowadays. anything that could be done to mitigate that long-term seems like a step in the right direction.

What about 'Hyper' as a prefix for the new rarities instead of 'Extremely'? So 'Hyper Rare' (HR), 'Hyper Uncommon' (HUC), 'Hyper Common' (HC)?

I wasn't liking how the "shiny" bar was looking (it just looked a lot like the SR bar tbh), but thought the rainbow OMGSR was cute and hopefully not too similar to the custom bar...? Who knows.
Light mode ------ Dark mode

I do like the "super duper" name for the new "extremely/super/ultra" tiers, it's rather whimsical in line with tiers like "OMGSC/R". I am in the camp that we should preserve as many existing rarity names as possible - assuming that 4 rarities will be added by the looks of the poll, that's a big enough change already that I would imagine keeping at least some tier names will make the adjustment easier for most people.
Other people may have already brought this up, but the first and last "colors" are already being used. The blank is for still growing, and the rainbow is for customs. What would we change those to?
I had a couple of ideas like 40 pages ago - one of which was using patterns in the rarity bars for the highest and lowest rarity! Admittedly, I had completely forgotten about Customs using the rainbow bar, but perhaps it could be something like a bar full of shooting stars instead?
NocturnalPanda wrote:Or on a completely different tack, perhaps as well as VUC, we add two extra levels above and below OMGSR and OMGSC (was going to say just above OMGSR but my brain needed the balance

) - like 'Epic' or 'Legendary' (or even 'Rainbow Smoothie'

) that deviates from the current rainbow scheme and is just a full bar with a rainbow inside it, for the few rarest pets on the site. And if there was one below OMGSC too that had a completely different colour scheme (star at the very bottom of the bar, but maybe a more translucent filling of the rest of the bar, maybe full of leaves like the site wallpaper - could maybe be cracking the bar a little to show it's completely empty kinda thing?) then that would signify the few most common pets on the site, but also would maybe still make them desirable as they would have a completely different styling for their rarity that would look super cool!
(And also wouldn't require adding loads of new colours to the scheme, so all the categories would still be distinct.)

I like Hyper much more than super
I don’t really like the sound of hyper. It just doesn’t have the same ring to it… or maybe I’m just stupid

I also used these colors with the rarity bars suggested by
LostInTheEcho on page 58:

I do have to throw my two cents in here because if pallette #1 gets picked and I never said anything I'll be kicking myself forever. I literally cannot tell the difference between the first three colors on the right side for #1. They're too close in hue for me. Granted, they have different saturation, but still. Especially when we get into "rarer" pets, I feel like their colors should be very distinct and memorable. #3 is also kind of close.
#2 is my favorite. All the colors are completely unique and pleasing to the eye - even for someone like me who is super what I like to call shade blind :')

absolutely true. i'm worried about my pets losing value, sure, but not enough to vote against a very important change to the game. the success of this game is more important than the value of my pets. the new 411-group rarity system will just display rarities more accurately. it's not going to remove value or add value to any pet; it's going to more accurately portray the already-existing value.

2. missed event outcome(s) (ONLY DURING ACTIVE EVENT)
3. event tokens (ONLY DURING ACTIVE EVENT)
4. WL pet(s)

I definitely agree here, too. Ive definitely overpaid for some of the more valuables in my collection, simply because people hopwd to get more from their already super rare pet. I look forward to a system that helps to make things more fair for those players who dont have an arm and a leg worth of valuable pets to overpay for ex lists and whatnot. Anything that makes those harder to get pets more easier to obtain is a plus in my book, especially after trying to remove the rares list didnt work at all.
