Just in my opinion, I think that “very” and “super” are too similar and “super” shouldn’t be used. I like extremely which is an apparently controversial take on this thread. As others have said, maybe they should hold a poll for the wording.

Four new categories would just make that process take even longer. It would be very helpful to be able to see rarities of one's pets without going to a new window/page and then having to hit the back button and try to remember which pet you just clicked on lol.

Where are you looking at your pets that you can't see their rarities? When looking at them in your groups, the rarity should display under the adoption date already

Edit: Do you have "Show pet rarities under pets when viewing pet groups" ticked here: accounts/displaysettings.php?id=

when looking at one of your groups you can see text in big letters at the bottom that says "My account". under it there are two options, click the one that says "Change pet display settings". this brings up two options for you to select, check the box "Show pet rarities under pets when viewing pet groups" and hit the "save settings" button!

I did that, but it still doesn't show it. It might just be this old tablet.

Edited: Nope, it's not just my old tablet. I tried it on my phone too and it's still not displaying the rarities. Maybe it only shows on PC? I don't know, I don't have a PC so I can't test that.

No, this has nothing to do with your medium, except if you had blocked the images on one of them. But it would then show up on the other.
You could send screenshots of your settings and how the groups look like for you via help ticket.

conarcoin wrote:This makes no sense whatsoever. It shouldn't be that way. Rare will always be less in circulation than uncommon. I'm honestly so mindboggled by this belief because other than "older pets are more likely to have found their forever home" which I don't really buy given the amount of pets in the pound and how people give away and trade pets from locked groups all the time, there is literally no reason to ever believe an uncommon is equal to or worth more than a rare. I can understand the date stuff in regards to the same rarity where we can't be sure where they fall on a range (which this should fix by making those ranges much smaller), but this is just. Nonsensical.

The thing is, we can't just start to ignore the dates of pets. It doesn't make sense just because of the fact that rare+ pets are re-released while any rarity above/below (omgsc-uc) isn't. Older pets are simply less distributed than recent pets. I can find the recent event pets that turned rare left and right (honestly every year I get surprised by the fact so many pets turn rare cause they actually don't feel that rare???) while many commons/uncommons from the years 2011-2015 practicably have become extinct. Maybe the redistribution of rarities would solve this problem by putting those in new categories.

Loelya wrote:I have to say that I’m completely bewildered by this perspective because trading by rarity alone is probably the most ideal outcome for the system. :0 if players traded by rarity and demand/species/dates weren’t factors, then trading would be so smooth and seamless. common for common, rare for rare, omgsr for omgsr. I don’t necessarily think that would happen because I think demand will always be a factor - for better or worse - but I have to fully disagree and say that I would see it completely the opposite; that moving towards a trading system more dependent on rarity than any other factor would fix so many current issues with trading on CS.

The question is, how in particular does it solve this problem? The pets would be needed to be recounted. Account activity needs to be acknowledged. Giving out new rarities is only one thing that needs to be done to fix a broken system, a system that is more living from greed and desparation than anything else.

I came back from hiatus about half a week before the summer event started; and finding out what some pets have skyrockteted to made me wish I wouldn't have come back.

4 new rarities is great. I always felt like some uncommons are much more rare than others. Having them split up in more groups is the best and only logical way to really determine a pets worth. Same goes for the gap between very rare and omg so rare. I actually like the wording from the original post. Makes it perfectly clear which rarity is worth more or less than another, even for someone who’s mother tongue isn’t English. Plus even with the four new rarities, keeping the wording makes it easier to adapt to the new system.

I personally also can’t understand some discussions on this topic. Sure this will be a huge change but it is the best and only logical way to make trades more fair and to see the real worth of a pet compared to another one. I sometimes hesitate trading uncommons and very rares because I feel like some might change rarity soon. Having more rarities will make it transparent which ones are on the edge to be worth more or less and that’s really just awesome !

I also think it won’t make trading harder. I never understood the “rarity math” because sometimes a 2013 uncommon can become rare before a 2009 uncommon does. Of course older pets probably don’t always have the availability like recent pets. But that doesn’t always make them worth so much more that I have to trade 50+ 2022 uncommons for one 2010 uncommon for example.

Plus and I think what the most important part is, this game is made primarily for children and for simply enjoying pets designs and having a good time. I personally trade for pets that I like the designs of, not because of their rarity or demand. Having transparent rarities will make it so much more easier to do fair trades!

As an old user I probably was never so excited about an update before and I’m looking forward to the new transparent rarity system!!!
Just please please please don’t make up another completely different wording
I am really excited to get to know the real worth of my pets 8-)

I think a lot of you guys are missing the point of this update honestly, no this will not magically fix trading, BUT it will allow people to better understand how rare the pet is in a more specific way. A lot of it is directly influenced by players and you guys choose the way you trade. Even though the list is gone, ex list pets are still extremely sought after. Players control this.

As for the names of the new rarities, I think the officially suggested names under the main post fit best, out of any other option that’s suggested, it Will cause the least amount of confusion between rarities, The notch system will also help this along with the different colors, though I do think that the colors should be more different/ saturated so people can better see it. I know not many people will agree with that but honestly, nothing seems to be much better than it

Saying this, I am in full support of the four new rarities.

i'm a bit concerned about how four new rarities will impact this. once again, i am in support of the four new rarities most out of any of these suggestions, but i worry that people will still be particular about trading the same rarities and dates and it will greatly limit the amount of trades that are successful.

right now, we have 7 rarities. with 4 new ones, we'll have 11. just think... it's already hard enough to trade with some people because you don't have anything available on their wishlist (<< i strongly rely on the WL to decide what to trade, maybe some people don't) ... how will this work with new rarities? i'm just concerned that the availability of tradeable pets will go down because two pets that used to be common may now be common and very common... which would erase a formerly possible trade.

i can only hope that this change, if it goes through, will cause players to become more lax about rarities. if not, i worry the trading scene could struggle even more than it already does.

If one pet becomes VC and one stays C, that means that the trade was never technically "fair" to begin with in your example.

I think overall, the only issue is people misunderstanding how this will affect trading. Yes, demand will still be a thing. That will never change. People will still try to upsell pets. That will never change. But what will change with this update is our ability to make better decisions about pets in trades, at least when rarity is involved. Nothing is being removed from the game. It's only giving us clarity so that we know how much of a pet there is out there. If you're trading for a common pet, you know that you don't have to overpay to one user for it. There are most likely thousands more. It helps curb the effect of demand on pets.
A high demand pet NOW [rare - VR] might go down 1-2 rarities because in reality, it was never that rare to being with. People just take advantage of the pets that people want to turn a profit. It has nothing to do with the pet itself, in that instance it has almost everything to do with the fabricated demand that pet has.

The only reason [I think] trading can be a struggle after this is if the majority of users misunderstand the rarity bar changes or continue to try and upsell pets that will probably no longer be as valuable as they were because the truth is displayed in the rarity bar.
It's going to be a big change yes, but it's a change that in reality should've been around from day 1. But I don't blame anyone, who could've known in 2008 that CS would still be around and kicking now lol. As long as it gets implemented in the end, it will all be balanced and things can start to repair naturally [in the trading scene] from there.

this is exactly it - this kind of update is about how we as a player base can be more informed about trading on an individual level.

I agree that some posts here seem to be missing the point in that, while how this update changes user behavior is entirely up to the players and not something staff can control, it's a good way for the CS team to do their part in making rarities clearer and easier to understand.

I initially voted to just add "very uncommon" as I feel that uncommons have the biggest discrepancy in value between a normal monthly and a multiple years old event pet, but after reading and thinking it over, I believe 4 new rarities to be a much better option. I've seen a few people on here claim that 4 new rarities would be more confusing, but I'm having trouble following this logic. Unless you disable rarity bars and only use the text, there's still ultimately a sliding, visualized scale- if, under the new system, you put a very rare next to an extremely rare, it would be clear just from looking at the bar that the extremely rare is more valuable, at least in terms of raw rarity (I'm not factoring in demand and I don't believe demand should ever be "canonized" in any way as it's so subjective, and the way it compounds on top of itself when people re-add it on top of, say, rares list values makes certain pets grow or decrease in perceived value way too rapidly.)

I think the "star" system proposed here early is also a fantastic idea that would help make this even clearer, both for visually impaired players and just generally having a visual system that's easy to understand, so it has my full support. I also believe that "extremely" is the clearest intensifier for me for something that's supposed to be over "very", but "super" does work too. Ultimately, I don't think it matters if the names are a bit clunky, as long as they can be a) visualized and b) abbreviated- which doesn't seem to be a problem here.

I really want those who are opposed to the additional rarities to try and understand that staff seem to be doing all they can to make this a smooth change and the community will ultimately adapt one way or another- ultimately, I believe MORE transparency around how many of a pet are in circulation as opposed to another is much better than less, especially as staff have stated they won't ever release the actual numbers. For a player who's not active on forums, it can be hard to understand the gap in value between one uncommon and another, or one VR vs another, and this is a gap that can be pretty huge. When this is only documented in threads on the site, by the playerbase, trading feels less accessible, and subjectivity can come into play in places it maybe shouldn't. When I came back to this site from a multiple-year hiatus, I had to spend a lot of time in trade threads, learning about the subjective values players use (ie, player A thinks a 2014 pet is worth twice as much as a 2015 pet, whereas player B is less concerned by that discrepancy and values them the same) and reading guides. I don't wish this upon new players who might now have had the background on the site's economy that I did from my "past life" here, and I'd rather differences in scarcity be more visible from the outset.

I definitely think adding more rarities will help in many, many ways! I also like the colors, haha.
