I've been playing for 8 years now, and tbh I have a hard time trying to get pets I've been trying to accomplish for years. This isn't exactly a site management problem and I get the supply and demand chain, but sometimes it's frustrating. About the interaction with other players, it seems almost non-existent from when I first joined. When I'd first joined, I was able to make friends quite easily and I even was a part of a few RPs where I also made friends and they were quite active. Nowadays, I find that most of the people I befriended aren't active or if they are, I never see them and we hardly speak. I wouldn't quit CS ever, it's just sometimes very sad to see the differences in the site from when I first joined vs now. It was almost like back then I knew a lot of people and a lot of people knew me, and it was quite fun but most of the time now I only come around to adopt pets

I just want to say that I'm glad every time I come back to this thread I get to read both sides of arguments. You guys who are having these very open discussions and talks are awesome for opening up perspectives. I'm also thankful because I see a lot of people I have traded with in the past that are being so helpful with this discussion. I'm all caught up for now and I just wanted to give you guys some praise

actually, i know for a fact that the UR lions value has upped drastically over time due to hoarders over-offering for them. the UR lion is technically still only 2.5n, but because of demand and the amount of people overpaying it, it commonly goes for 3+ non. the fact that some people hoarding them were offering 4 non, 5 non, and even higher, some overpaying to the point of 6-7 non, really caused a huge value spike for a few months where it was even regularly fetching 3.5-4 non. this is visible on the successful trades thread. even still due to the amount of people hoarding it and overpaying for it it does not commonly go for it's actual value of 2.5n. while i'm not against hoarding as a concept, it's simply not true that it doesn't change the value of pets much - the less supply there is a pet, the more sought after it becomes and harder to find, leading to more people having to overpay to get it. also, depending on how much those hoarding the pet pay for it, the more value people think they can get out of the pet, which ALSO leads to more people having to overpay, driving up the value of the pet.

i definitely do feel like overpaying for hoard pets has contributed
to the economy issue. i have small hoards of uncommon-common
pets, i support hoards of any kind tbh but i do think it's silly to ignore
the fact that the older players who are this willing to overpay for
rare hoards to this extent are contributing to this problem though.

agreed. my rare hoards are very small. they come anywhere from 5 to 20 (i think i only have a single 20 rare pet hoard though, the rest are 10 and 5)! personally id never hoard an omgsr because of the pressure and imbalance thatd put on the economy as aelius said, and someone did some math a couple pages ago which, while not entirely accurate, was a real eye opener.

i guess my point is the economy is very very messed rn and idk what can fix it at this point either.

Exactly! I know a lot of huge hoarders will say that they often overpay for pets and work hard to get them. What they often don't seem to realize is that's partly contributing to the problem. For example, when the Valentine's day lion came out this year, hoarders were snatching up as many as they could by paying 2009 rares+ for them. This happened often enough that people who had extras of the lion were starting to expect that and were even asking for it in trading threads. So while hoarders who had valuble pets snatched them up, the rest of us just watched on, unable to get one unless we got lucky and came across a nice user, willing to trade fairly. It was frustrating. Now I am not against hoards, I want to make that clear! But there is a right way, and a wrong way to hoard. And overpaying and hoarding a lot of rare+ pets can cause problems in the economy. I also don't think hoarders are the biggest issue with the economy, there are just so many problems with it and hoarders are, in some ways, contributing. I really do think there needs to be some sort of limit on hoards. Nothing crazy, just like, if it's rare+ you can only hoard so many of a single pet. But there's also all kinds of problems that come with that so I don't know what the exact solution is there.

On the other side, isn't that re-introducing rares back into the trading pool? A few pages ago, people were talking about having more rares+ released in monthly litters would create a stir in the pet economy because of those people who overpay for newer rares with older rares. I don't think pointing fingers at those who chose to hoard rarer pets is a productive argument.

Regardless of what results this thread amounts to, I personally believe that something big needs to be done to change things, and it's going to upset some users. It's just how it's going to have to be if we want CS to live. We can't just try to make small tweaks here and there and expect it to fix this mess.

100% agree that a big change needs to happen. Which is unfortunately why I don't think it's ever really going to get fixed. And yeah, while I have my own opinions on what the big changes need to be, and I disagree with you about the hoarding situation, as long as some big change happens, I would be happy. Even if the change ended up not being good, it would show me that they are trying, that they're still passionate about the site, and want to fix things. So honestly, even if it's not the specific changes I want, there needs to be some massive changes.

lol so many reasons, way too many to list. but ill break this up so its digestible, tldr at end

i started playing cs actively in 2017 and played daily (we’re talking waking up before and coming home after school and playing). ive left and returned to this site multiple timed and honestly? i dont think ill ever fully come back again because of the state of the site.

      economy
first and foremost it is nearly impossible to make any forward progress in your goals unless you get really lucky with pound or gifts, spend hours on the game daily, or have some sort of marketable skill or ability to buy c$. this economy is quite frankly imo irreparable and unless something serious is done about the price gouging we are only going to see worse and worse inflation. when i first started playing CS the idea of paying anything more than a MA for a cheshire cat or dragon cat was insane, yet today they go for like .5n and 1n respectively. the value of c$ has also been drastically inflated, as time goes on the amount of c$ in circulation only goes up. & this isnt even mentioning how often demand changes and that every single player has their own set values for pets and items. and jesus christ dont even get me started on items because the item economy is somehow even WORSE than pets. on this site people either extremely undervalue or extremely overvalue items and its getting really frustrating & confusing having to check every single pet and item’s value before trading it off to make sure i’m not getting scammed. and even if you spend the time researching and making sure to create the perfect trade that your partner surely cant decline half the time they’ll cancel it without a message in response or tell you that your supposedly fair trade is extreme underpay.

      community
its also just hard to make friends on this site unless you have a 3rd party platform to talk on, cs dms and forum posts are kinds crap for one on one discussions. the player base is also just tends to be really drama-oriented for no damn reason, its really gross. i’ve had people i consider friends ran off the site by either community members or even members of staff.

      staff
when it comes to staff on this site it feels like every member either takes it way too seriously or not serious enough. there are certain members of staff that take action for issues other members dismiss or even say is fine.
a few years ago i asked to migrate my accounts and to have this account closed because my deadname is plastered all over my account in uneditable posts and in posts replying to me & this makes me very uncomfortable but i was told no. since then i’m aware of at least one situation in which a player has been allowed to migrate their account to another, and there are probably a handful of other people who have done similar things.
and also… theres like zero tess & nick interaction with players, i get they they’re busy but it feels like all of our pleas for improvement are falling upon deaf ears

i genuinely care about this site and would be really sad to see it shut down, this game
played such an important part in life in my younger years & i want to see it thrive, even if it isnt as popular as it once was

idk its just really frustrating to see rules be interpreted loosely & the economy being pushed into even worse of a state than it was when we first did away with the rares list. i dont really see an easy fix though. the only ideas i have in mind would be to release exact counts of pets and items bit even that isn’t guaranteed to fix things. unless staff want to seriously redefine what is considered scamming then that’s my only idea.

i get it, running a site with a user made economy has got to be extremely difficult but when the economy gets so bad that it pushes away old players its going to guarantee new players wont join either & u have to put your foot down at some point & show they’re willing to try and fix the game

yikes sorry for that massive post anyways.
tldr ; economy is awful (pet, item, & c$), hard to make friends, staffing issues

i dont think i've been an active player since probably 2017 and 2018. i initially joined back in 2016 and even then i thought trading was difficult, but befriending others was a lot more difficult. i've come to realize that i only log onto to this site to mindlessly pass time. and as much as i would love to be more dedicated to this site, it really is difficult, especially since i no longer have an interest in trading as much. i tried being active on forums after i lost interest in trading but even then it feels repetitive.

i think i've also seen this type of stagnancy with animal jam, which i played years before joining cs. i dont think tess and nick owe us anything but a really nice update that'll push the motivation to stay dedicated would be nice. i dont have any ideas, in particular, but honestly anything out of the ordinary.

i don't know my age and growing up is to blame for my lack in activity for this site but i would really like to spend more time here ^^
