No offense but you seem to be missing the main points all the way around. The main point is that there was no communication.
Also,
1. Mods don't handle that stuff. It's really only Admins that do the bigger things like that, and sometimes Admin Assistants that well, assist.
2. Nick being the only coder is not/should not be an excuse. He could've at the very least passed it along to someone that could have told vicasterology when he logged back in, or sent a PM so that he could see when they got back to the site.
Obviously everyone has a life outside of the site.
But that's just a bad excuse in this case. Everyone has lives outside of their job, so if they show up 2 hours late to a very important event/meeting, is that ok? No. Call out for a family emergency, call out sick, or quit the job if you can't do the work.
You call in to your job to let people know that you won't be able to be there. There needs to be communication. That's why 2-week notices are a thing. The establishment needs time to find a new hire to take your place.
But in this case, that hasn't been happening. There are no notices, no updates [at least there have been 0 unprompted ones. We asked, so they made the announcements. Otherwise, nothing would've been said/done on the larger scale to help the userbase.]
If you can't balance life and work, it's best to give up whatever job is causing you trouble. If they can't keep up with the site, they need to hire more coders/specific staff so that there is less stress on one/few individuals. [Now there is a suggestion thread somewhere for this that I have already expressed my support on.]
Try and be open minded, the users affected aren't making this up or blowing things out of proportion. This has been going on for years, even since BEFORE I joined in '19. That's 4 going on 5 years. In 2020, an admin made a statement saying that they were going to try better as staff to communicate. Clearly that never quite happened as we are here again in 2023 asking for the SAME things again.
YES, being CS staff is a volunteer job.
NO, that doesn't excuse lack of communication. If you aren't able to do something as basic as communication, you should step down. [This is my opinion. /nay /nbr /nbh]
Nothing rude at all is intended in this message. This is not at anyone, as stated above. It's a general statement.
@viscasterology
exactly what I mean, they clearly knew that it was not *you* yet gave no thought into letting you know. It's really unprofessional [as staff/admins of this site] that they didn't take initiative and tell you without having to be asked, and it still shocks me lol.
Any other site would've given an email or an on-site notification of SOME sort.
i think you might be right about me maybe misunderstanding some things, thats my bad, sometimes when i read paragraphs my eyes sometimes skip lines so it makes sense if im getting some stuff wrong/not understanding some of the points your making, ill try an be a bit better about it and thanks for taking time to try and help me understanf where you guys coming from
i think im also having a bit of diffculty like articulating what i mean by some stuff like having trouble wording it in a way that makes sense, im not doing a good job explaining/im fumbling my points a bit
theres more i wanna say and a point i have aboout the communication thing too but im having a really hard time wording stuff atm
also, i speak really matter of fact sometimes too i hope i havent come off rude either, its not my intention
