"Thank you, Strikinggaze," he responded, "and thank you, too, Vervainclaw! That's exactly where I'm headed." He dipped out of the den and back into the water. "We've got quite a list of things to look for. Cobwebs, blackberry leaves, borage, coltsfoot, and dock leaves. Cobwebs are easy enough, I'm sure you know what they look like, medicine cat or not," he teased gently, starting out of camp. "Blackberry leaves will be accompanied by blackberries, naturally," he nodded, "borage is green and fuzzy, it should look dewy in all this rain. You can identify it by bright, blue flowers." Beetlepaw explained the herbs one by one. "Coltsfoot has yellow flowers, with yellow centers. Like dandelion but with big, broad leaves," he continued on his way to the Twoleg place, knowing their gardens had the best chance of cobweb in weather like this. "And finally, dock leaves are long leaves with a red vein running down the center. If you think you've found something, just call me over and I'll let you know if it's what we're looking for," he finished, wincing a bit at the mud squishing between his toes. Alright, the rain was fine, but he could do without the mud.

"I'll go grab more, then!" Oilpaw nodded, ever enthusiastic. He bounded back to the fresh kill pile and picked up a watery thrush. It was soggier than the squirrel, but beggars couldn't be choosers. He set it down at Icestep's paws. "And I'll go grab something for you, too, Softheart!" Before she could get a word in edgewise, he was off to pick out something else. Even though they'd just been hunting, pickings were slim. Even as his tummy growled in protest, he picked the biggest prey item for Softheart: a waterlogged vole. He marched back to the elder's den, setting it down for Softheart.
He lingered in the warmth and dryness of the den for a moment. "Did you ever have to train in rain like this, Icestep?" he asked, sitting down in the entrance. He always loved a good story. Before he knew what was going on, Softheart had gotten up and grabbed him by the scruff. She settled back down and began to groom him, which he did not protest at all. Her warm tongue rasped his wet fur, drying him off. He loved hanging out with the elders!

"What, scared of a little water?" Mudface teased her apprentice. "I promise you're made of tougher stuff than a little rain can wash away. You're my apprentice, after all," she grinned. "I could ask Sorrelpaw's mentor if I could bring her. It wouldn't hurt to have someone else with us, good thinking." Mudface stopped grooming herself, but paused at Flypaw's intrusion. "Only toms should lead, huh?" she snorted. "Your deputy is a molly, young man," she interjected, "and you'd be smart to not underestimate us. Some of the fiercest warriors have been mollies. Maybe if you spent more time learning from your mentor you'd know that."
Mudface got back to her paws, looking at her apprentice. "I'll be back to fetch you, going to go ask Roseleaf if she and Sorrelpaw would like to join us. Don't get too comfy!" She trotted back out into the rain, tail swishing behind her. Now, where was Roseleaf?

Gorsewhisper laughed at her daughter's joke, shaking her head. "Good that you caught anything at all in this awful weather. Good job," she praised her. She could feel Creekshine's gaze as she looked her over. The rain must've made her obvious. "Oh, thank you," she responded, looking at the vole. "I'll do that. You get inside and dry off, or you'll get sick," she couldn't help but mother her a little bit. "Goodbye, Creekshine," she watched her go, before picking up the vole and stalking off to the warrior's den. Once inside she shook off and made her way to her bed. She began to eat the vole and groom herself between bites. Starclan, she was starving. She hadn't realised it until now, but she couldn't down the vole quick enough.

Softheart listened to Oilpaw come and go, and ask Icestep a question. She moved to her paws and scooped the little apprentice up by his scruff. She settled back down by the fresh kill he'd brought and began to groom the water from his coat. Poor little thing would catch cold otherwise. "I think we've all had our turns in the rain, but this is a
lot of rain," she commented between licks.

Mothstorm was an unusually heavy sleeper, admittedly. He'd slept through all of the thunder quakes and all of the conversation in the nursery. He woke up on his own time, stretching out as he slowly roused. "Morning, ladies," he greeted the other queens, not moving from his spot just yet. "Morning, Riverripple," he extended a greeting to the visitor as well. Yawning, he moved to his paws and stretched one more time for good measure. "She'll never be alone, won't get rid of me that easy," he joked, fully including himself in the conversation now. "You couldn't pay me to go back to warrior life, honestly. A queen's life for me," Mothstorm nodded. He looked to Ashkit and Rabbitpaw, how sweet of the apprentice to come and hang out with a kit. Rabbitpaw was a promising apprentice, sure to earn her full name soon. Made him think of his own child, who would hopefully be getting his name soon, too.

Oldpaw awoke with a start, instantly on his paws and taking a step to escape what chased him. He opened his eyes, looking panicked before he realised where he was. Apprentice den. He was safe, no foxes here. He sat down and tried to catch his breath, thankful that there was commotion from the other apprentices to mask his panic. His breathing ran ragged for a minute or two before he finally calmed down. He wondered when he'd be assigned a new mentor, should be some time soon. He wasn't even sure he wanted another mentor. Maybe he should go find some Twolegs and live with them.
