History -
Rory's upbringing really hasn't been anything all that impressive. Born on the Boiling Isles, a giant decomposing ancient corpse of a creature called a Titan laying in the middle of a forever boiling sea of water, Rory is the only child of a father who is a Palismen Carver and a mother who is a Veterinarian for mythical beasts. She grew up raised by her parents in the woods resting just outside of the town of Bonesborough spending her days flitting between them and the rest of her rather large and admittedly odd family. She is half Human through her mother being Human.
Yet all the same her parents were loving and attentive.
Her grandparents and rest of the family a mixed wild bag and it wasn't uncommon for them to spoil her as most who aren't a child's parent are won't to do.
Rory's schooling has been typical of a Witchling or young Demon of the Isles, having started Kindergarden age at Hexside School for Magic and Demonics before, eventually when she was of age, taking the placement exam for High School Level courses, and being placed with her friends in the advanced classes. Her track, well tracks, of choice being all of them making her the first student since her mother to study every single magic track. A busy bee the girl joined the school's Grudgby Team, became President of the Writing Club, joined the school's newspaper the Hexside Free Press as a writer and helps her grandaunt as a Junior Archievist for the Supernatural History Museum to try and keep herself busy and control her endless energy. All the while doing very well academically.
But this seemingly normal half-Human Witchling has a few secrets even with her apparently normal appearing upbringing.... Ever since she can remember Rory has been able to see people clad in white hooded cloaks and a golden owl-like mask accompanied by different sensations or shocks of sudden pain. It won't be until later that the girl learns the identities of these ghosts only she can see to be those of past Golden Guards or, more accurately, Grimwalkers.......magically created artifical Witches based around someone whose long since gone. Magical clones basically. Though unaware of her exact connection to them being her father is actually the last living Grimwalker, thus making her half-Grimwalker and half-Human instead of half-Witch, Rory could tell they were appearing to her for a reason. As though they wanted something or to tell her something. So Rory did a little digging as the knowledge-hungry teen she is.
Since then the past few months has seen the return of the Golden Guard as Rory has made it her goal to correct the mantle's legacy and secretly taken it up herself breathing new life back into the mask.
Abilities -
Wood Carving.
With a parent who is a Palismen Carver, Rory has been watching wood carving since she was small and has begun learning from her father on how to carve Palismen. Though she is still very much a novice and is still learning.
Limited Mediumship.
Due to being half Grimwalker and sharing a connection with them, Rory is able to occasionally see the ghosts of past Grimwalkers. Though they never come into physical contact with her or speak. They useually appear as a warning of danger or to guide her, each appearance marked by and bringing on Rory experiencing the sensation of how the one appearing died.
Magic
Being born and raised on the Boiling Isles, Rory is capable of using magic just like the rest of the residents which call the ancient massive corpse home. However. Unlike them, due to her lack of a Bile Sac attached to her heart, Rory can not cast magic by hand using spell circles like they can.
*Glyph Magic - Performing glyph magic effectively requires that both the glyph is drawn accurately enough and that the caster know what they need the glyph to do when they activate it, else they will receive underwhelming and/or unintended results. Glyphs can also sometimes generate spell circles themselves when cast. It has been shown that this can be used in order to have a spell active not where the glyph was placed, but to a nearby location the caster wants the spell to be, such as when used a plant glyph to make a tower of vines underneath her instead of where the glyph was placed in front of her, the glyph forming a spell circle connecting to it around the castor. Furthermore, although usually they need to be placed on an object to directly affect it (rather than indirectly, such as launching ice at something instead of freezing it), there are cases where a glyph only needs to be activated in an object's vicinity to have its magic affect it, such as when a fire glyph is held up in front of a metal grate for the heat to melt it.
There are four natural glyphs and each has to do with an element, but these can be combined with each other in spacific combos to create other desired spells.
+Light Glyph - one of the four basic natural glyphs and Rory's go-to, when cast it generates a floating sphere of white light. The intensity of the spell can be changed depending on the size of the glyph/spell circle. The light spell is considered a basic spell that can be cast at a very young age.
+Plant Glyph - one of the four basic natural glyphs, when cast flowers, and other types of plants or trees, sprout from the glyph. The plants can be any size, even towering over people.
+Fire Glyph - one of the four basic natural glyphs, when cast, it conjures a ball of fire. If cast on the surface of an object, it will set that object on fire and can be used to generate heat.
+Ice Glyph - one of the four basic natural glyphs, when cast, it causes a pillar of ice to form. The diameter, speed of growth, and the height of the ice pillar depends on the size of the glyph.
+Snow Combo - The glyph combo for snow is a light glyph at the top of the circle, two ice glyphs on the left and right sides, and a fire glyph at the bottom. When cast, it creates snow. It can also command existing magic to become snow.
+Invisibility Combo - The glyph combo for invisibility is a light glyph in the center of the circle, another light glyph on the top left corner of the circle, and two ice glyphs on the bottom left and right corners. When cast, it can render anyone or anything it is placed on invisible. However, the invisibility spell only lasts for as long as the caster, not the person they used it on, holds their breath, even if the glyph is used on an inanimate object.
+Mist Combo - The glyph combo for mist is a fire glyph on the left side of the circle, with an ice glyph on the right side. Occasionally, it is drawn with a smaller empty circle at the bottom to place an item in. When cast, it conjures up a thick mist. Additionally, by including pollen from sleeping nettle flowers, the combination will create a sleep-induced smoke.
+Safety Hover Combo - acts like a safety net for when someone is falling, making them hover for a couple seconds just before they hit the ground and then dropping them. The combination is a light glyph inside a larger circle between an ice and fire glyph.
+Wind Combo - casts a powerful wind spell using a light glyph in the outer circle and an ice glyph in the center, surrounded by three fire glyphs.
*Artificial Magic -
Like many Witches and Demons from the Boiling Isles, Rory carries with her a Witch's Staff. With this staff she is able to use magic despite her unnormal biology. This magic is Artificial Magic. It takes the form of tell tale crimson magic.
+Uniform Spell - when she takes hold of the staff, Rory automatically is robed in the uniform of the Golden Guard.
+Flight - as with all Witch Staffs, Rory is able to use her's for flight by riding on it and can even carry others on it with her. She rides it as one would ride a horse side-saddle. Also, as long as she has physical contact with the staff, Rory can hover in midair even if she isn't actually riding it.
+Magic Blasts - she is able to fire off blasts of red magic from her staff.
+Teleportation - one of the main ways Rory uses her staff, she is able to teleport short distances in high speed dashes using her staff. When she does this her form is temporarily blurred out by red magic each time.
+Telekinesis - one of the main ways Rory uses her staff, she is able to move people and objects through the air at will without touching them with simple gestures of her staff. When she does this, the object or person is surrounded by a red magical aura and artificial magic gathers around the gem of the staff.
+Earth Magic - Rory is able to use her staff to cast earth magic. With this magic she can control the earth and sand, even being able to change between the two when applying her knowledge of Construction Magic. When she uses this magic, the earth she is manipulating becomes outlined in red artificial magic.
Personality -
Quite the interesting combination of emotions, which she is extremely bad at keeping from others as other people always seem to be able to peg her feelings and thoughts just as a glance, this young Witchling has been effectively described well as having her mother’s ferocity and creativity along with her father’s thirst for knowledge and softer side. Rory is inherently snarky, loud and out-spoken to almost the point of being obnoxious at times, kind-hearted, eccentric and slightly naive. The first to admit that, as a general rule, she has a authority issue Rory never backs down from the opportunity to let her voice be heard..especially when she sees something she thinks is blatantly wrong. It takes a firm hand to handle her. Like the saying “It takes a village to raise a child.”, well in this case it takes a parcel of Witches, a few Humans, a Basilisk, a Grimwalker a immortal God that visits from time to time when they are in the area and a furry God-like being of the realm to raise this particular Witchling. She has a bad habit of learning the hard way and is a near endless ball of chaotic energy. It’s why she has so much on her plate (Grudgby. Hexside Newspaper Reporter. Writing Club President. Assisting her Grandaunt Lilith at the Supernatural History Museum.) Too keep her busy and out of trouble which, obviously, doesn’t always work thanks to her actually being able to handle such multiple activities surprisingly well. About the only things that can get her to sit still and calm for any significant length of time is reading The Good Witch Luzura or learning or studying about magic.
It may seem impossible that a teen with as much energy as Rory has could be still at all let alone be still enough to read or study for any length of time, but it’s true. Many times the young Deamonne can be found just laying in the middle of a hallway or outside without a care in the world and with either several of the Luzura titles around her or scattered papers, texts and writing implements. This is how she relaxes. When Rory reads or practices with glyphs her typically plague of thoughts and energy simmers down to a low controlled hum. Everything becomes clear and organised. She is able to think and plan clearly, even to the point of becoming many a time shockingly introspective. And her love of it will keep her in such a state for hours if not all day if allowed. Where normally a creative, knowledge thirsty mind would create more energy and unruliness with Rory it actually has the opposite effect of creating laid back intelligence coupled with a snarky sharp wit. Something that has been noted by her family and taken full advantage of over the years when moments of peace have been needed....not that the girl cares. She loves it too much to care.
And yet, for as kind and soft as she is Rory is just as equally fierce. Her temper rarely flares up outside of her normal high energy-induced childish behavior but when it does its been known to send a shock through whoever it was directed towards. Even if they are older or more skilled an opponant then herself. Perhaps her defining feature, Rory can be highly protective over anyone with her affections and murderously relentless if someone who has it is threatened or otherwise brought to some form of harm. Not unlike a Cardinal all poofed up with their feathers and crests fluffed up. Things like betrayle do not sit well. However redemption is a possible thing in Rory's eyes and, should the person prove themselves to be actually good and trustworthy, then they will once again earn the teen's loyalty to be counted among her friends.
Whe acting as the Golden Gaurd, Rory is typically silent so that nobody can recognize her voice. However her energy, snark and fierceness tends to come through the most from behind the golden mask she wears.
Appearance -
Rory’s physical appearance is generally hidden beneath her Golden Guard Uniform as she dones the signature uniform of said Gaurd. This uniform includes; a pair of dark brown leather gloves and matching boots, an ivory hooded cloak with a golden triangle clasp at the throat but with a golden Pauldron on the left shoulder and the Sigil of the Golden Gaurd stitched onto the centre of the back of the cloak which looks to be a bird in flight upwards under an arc. Her face is hidden behind a golden pointed two-faceted mask with a thin slot across it that looks similar to the face of a Barn Owl in design. Her hood is always up.
However. Under the uniform Rory is a fifteen year old humaniod who shares an appearance with the Witches of the Boiling Isles while having a softly tanned complexion, hazel eyes and long brunette hair which becomes blonde midway and steadily fades becoming lighter going downwards before reaching totally pale blonde at the ends. She useually keeps her hair up in a ponytail with the help of vines she creates with a Plant Glyph. Her ears are pointed, though slightly smaller then Witch ears, and she tends to ware small golden feather stud earrings. Around her neck hidden under her clothes she wears a hand carved wooden male Northern Cardinal Necklace which she never takes off. For her clothing Rory's attire typically consist of varying shades of purples and yellows. Generally this is in the form of fitted dark jeans, a yellow button down shirt with purple plaid lines over it, a simple white tank top underneath the button down and her mother's old high school lettermen jacket which has a star on one shoulder and a large E on the other used mainly to hold slips of paper or similar materials.
Weapons/Items -
*Northern Cardinal Necklace - Rory wears a necklace of a handcrafted wooden red male Northern Cardinal filled, unknown to her, with Titan's Blood. It was given to her and made by her parents. She never takes it off and is a reason she can use magic outside the Demon Realm.
*Artificial Magic Staff - Rory's staff is a dark brown slightly worn wooden pole with a top that appears to be white and gold with a mechanical wing. The Golden Guard's staff does not feature a palisman atop it like a normal Witch Staff, and in its place there is a red tip that acts as a focusing point for magic when being used. It lets her use magic outside the Demon Realm and serves as her main mode of transportation. The staff is retractable into just the red gem topped cylinder so that it can easily be put away out of the way.
*Carving Knife - a simple small knife which she keeps on her. Despite being a knife, it's meant for carving wood so its really not much larger then a medical scalpel.
Other-
*Rory doesn't have her Palismen yet which is lart of the reason she uses the Artificial Magic Staff, which is the same one her father used as the Guard.
*Her goal has changed since accepting the mantle of the Golden Guard. Now her desire is to right the legacy attached to her new mantle.
*as the Golden Guard, Rory doesn't use her glyphs instead relying on her staff for her magic. It helps hide her identity.
