What is a Sweeten?

Sweetens (a portmanteau of "sweet", "kitten", and "sweeten", scientific name: Felis Sophius) are the result of an evolutionary branch to the domestic cat in an alternative dimension--they're like cats, but a bit smaller (around the size of a rabbit), they're known to have much more variety in colors, markings, and features, and they also evolved to have wings on their backs and feet! This allows them to glide, but only for a few minutes at a time. (Unless your Sweeten is a specific breed of the Sweeten known as a Flyer Sweeten, in which they can fully fly, and are extremely rare!)

Sweetens can be found living primarily in hollow trees (though caves and even burrows are not unheard of), where they construct their dens from soft material, usually feathers (sometimes moss is added as well) they found on the ground. They also take a liking to decorating their nests with shiny things they find from the humans--so hang on tightly to your gold bracelets and pearl necklaces!

Unlike the domestic cat, Sweetens also seem to enjoy music and can be heard humming tunes in the form of trills and chirps. They get their name because, despite being related to cats, they have an outgoing personality more akin to dogs--that is, one that's very playful and, well, sweet! A Sweeten is loyal to the very end, will risk their life to protect their owner in the face of danger, and is a very affectionate creature that loves cuddles, being pet, and playing.

Q: How do I adopt a Sweeten?
A: Sweetens are normally obtained through FREE means!

At random times, litters of Sweetens will be posted on the adoption zone post below, in a first-come-first-serve manner. The first user to fill out a form adopting that Sweeten gets them, simple as that! But note that due to community size, these litters will go fast--sometimes even less than a minute, so when litters are announced, make sure you set a reminder to get there right before the drop rather than after, and type fast! (Note: do not fill out forms in advance, there's multiple measures to catch this and will result in disqualification.)

If you can't make it to litters or aren't fast enough, that's okay! Sweetens are often also given out in giveaways in the Discord server (linked above), be it raffles or giveaway games, as are paid options through flatsales and auctions from time to time. The Discord server is a large part of Sweetens and is recommended if Sweetens are something you're really passionate about.

We also have major events on CS during special occasions, where a ton of free Sweetens can usually be earned!

Q: Can I make my own Sweeten/make litters?
A: No, unless you are a member of staff, you cannot use the lineart or make litters. You are allowed to make unofficial Sweeten OCs off-base, but you are not allowed to made adoptables with the intent of selling or otherwise while calling them Sweetens (I don't claim the idea of winged cats, but my take and name for them specifically). They also will not be considered a real Sweeten unless you get a custom of them transferred to the lines.

Q: Can I make my Sweeten my fursona/OC?
A: Of course you can, though I'd be careful about designs directly based on characters from media. (Toyhouse disallows them and will take them down if reported, for example.) See below for info on taking offsite.

Q: What are the links at the top below the logo for?
A: They are as follows:
The Co-Op Archive is a place to store your Sweetens and feathers.
The Past Litters thread documents all released Sweetens, more like the official Chicken Smoothie archive. (Customs/Giveaways links to the documentation of all customs, breedings, and giveaway Sweetens from the Discord server)
The Trading thread is where you make trades/gifts and look for trading partners, as well as where you can give Sweetens up for adoption.

Q: Can I put my Sweeten in my signature/take my Sweetens offsite?
A: Absolutely! If you're uploading them to Toyhouse, please credit my TH username specific to UMAs, which is "Tendo63." Credit the Sweeten's creator by the designer of the Sweeten, and credit the image by my TH for "base" and the designer (with no label.) It's preferred that you list this thread as an additional designer as well.

Q: Can I convert my Sweetens into other species/regular cats?
A: Yes, that's okay. The Sweeten version will still exist however and you still have to abide by trading rules, unless transferred out of the species entirely which you need special permission to do.

Q: When do customs/breedings open?
A: Customs and breedings don't open at a scheduled time, but are opened whenever artists have the free time to get some done! With that in mind, please try to avoid asking this too often ^^;

Q: I noticed the watermarks have different colors. What do they mean?
A: Watermarks are color-coded to signify something important about them.
Black = Regular adopt, be it from a litter, giveaway, or event
Blue = Custom
Magenta = Breeding
Red = Sweeten meant to be a copyrighted character
Green = Untradeable, giftable only
Any watermarks that are a $ instead of an S indicate the Sweeten was purchased with USD, and thus can be resold for such.

Q: What gender is my Sweeten?
A: Whatever you want it to be! Gender is not canonical to Sweetens and it's up to the owner if they want to give their Sweeten a gender.

Q: Who's that Sweeten up there?
A: That's Sophie, our mascot! She's based on my IRL cat, and was the first Sweeten to ever be discovered!

Q: Can I be on the staff team?
A: That depends on if I'm currently hiring! I'll let you know with a poll if I am. Do note that not just anybody will be hired though! Requirements are somewhat strict and positions are not FCFS.

Q: Why did you create Sweetens?
A: Way back when, I was a fanatic for early Chicken Smoothie user-made adoptables like Thimble Kitties, and in 2015 I was an artist for it as well as Mini Kits/Fuzzy Felines. It was always my dream to open my own user-made adoptables thread, but I lacked the skills to make an appealing lineart back then, so any attempts I had flopped. But now I'm a seasoned artist so I decided it was time to achieve my childhood dream!

Q: Where did Sweetens REALLY get its name?
A: The original name for this species was gonna be "Wingies" (you can also see this in early posts) but I changed it because I thought it was too generic. I've always called my cat "my sweeten" or something similar because she's a very sweet cat, and I thought it was cute, so I named the species that! That's also why Sophie is the mascot. She's the original Sweeten :)

Please read these rules at least once! Not all of them are common sense.
We highly recommend reading these before a litter drop rather than during it.

1. You can only adopt one Sweeten per litter, and once per 12 hours. If another litter comes out less than 12 hours after the first you adopted from, you cannot adopt from the second. This is to ensure everyone can get one. Using alternate accounts to get around this is grounds for an instant ban and Sweetens belonging to alts will be revoked from you. Play fair.

2. Sweetens are first come, first serve.

3. You are not permitted to edit your Sweeten's sprite in any way.

4. Editing adoption forms is not allowed under ANY circumstances until a litter is fully adopted out, and numbers cannot be changed. If for any reason you need to change the number, you must QUOTE your form and change it there. The reason for this is to prevent people from changing their Sweeten to one that someone took after them. (This rule does not apply to general posts).

Your post will be disqualified if it's edited unless you quote it, and you'll receive a strike if purposely trying to steal another Sweeten adopted after you or caught posting forms before a scheduled litter is released to get a "head start."

5. Do not "write your adoption forms in advance" before a scheduled litter. You are not allowed to copy and paste an adoption form before the litter is up to get a head start. Because of this, if your form is the wrong hexcode of a previous litter or has the codeword of a previous litter, it will be disqualified and you will receive a strike. Furthermore, while you will not receive a strike, your form will be disqualified if you change the hex to a different color or remove it. It's necessary to check the validity of your form.

You are also not allowed to quote someone else's filled out form and edit it, as this still gives you an unfair advantage. You must copy the form and paste it yourself using the "post reply" function.

6. This is a given, but do not steal someone else's Sweeten. This includes putting it in your signature without permission (if you have permission, credit them, and let me know first.)

7. Sweetens placed in your signature MUST link back to this thread.

8. You can change the Sweeten you want later on, but if someone claimed the Sweeten you want instead before you, you can't change it to that one, even if you initially adopted before them. (i.e., A claims 4, B then claims 3, A can't change their Sweeten to 3). If someone switches Sweetens, all forms posted before it are voided and it will be open for adoption again, regardless of if someone posted for that number before the adopter switched.

9. Please don't remove the codeword, it's necessary to find forms of specific litters. If it's removed, your form will be disqualified.

10. You must put down one number in your adoption forms. Forms that say "3 or 5," "anything open," etc. will not count.

11. I won't notify you by PM when you've claimed the Sweeten, as I do a final quote post when all are adopted. Please don't ask. I do not have the time to PM everyone, please check the thread if you want to know if you got the Sweeten, on the adoption post or search for the quotepost. If your name appears on this page, it's yours. If it's been over an hour and I have not updated the page, you can DM me asking if you got it. (I will not DM you)

12. A Sweeten with "(Reserved)" next to it is not available and was reserved for the artist of the litter to keep.

13. Please avoid mini-modding. This is defined as telling someone they're breaking the rules when you're not an official Sweetens moderator. Answering questions is okay if nobody has responded in 24+ hours.

14. Please do not guilt-trip if you miss a litter or post messages such as "I'll never get a Sweeten." Saying mild things such as "Oh no, I missed it! Oh well." or constructive criticism on how to improve the system is okay, but messages expressing anger or resentment at the staff for missing a litter or complaining about how you constantly miss litters is not.

Despite this, please do not ask us to change the "FCFS" nature of Sweetens, or ask us to implement "raffle litters" or "draw/write-a-story-to-adopt" litters. We've answered this question many times and the answer is no (on the main thread, we often host something similar in our Discord server, but they will not be implemented on the main thread). The system we chose was chosen for a reason and we ask that you respect this or simply find another species if this is not your cup of tea.

15. Please do not spam. What counts as spam is up to mod discretion, but the general rule of thumb is: if it's irrelevant or doesn't have a clear purpose, it's likely spam.

16. Adopting Sweetens with the express purpose of trading them for CS currency other UMAs is disallowed and adopting Sweetens only to trade for other Sweetens is discouraged. If you intend on trading Sweetens at any point, make sure to give the trading thread rules a read too for more info.

17. You cannot trade Sweetens offsite, you MUST trade them on the trading thread and you can only trade them to users with CS accounts. Sweetens trades conducted offsite will be considered void and the Sweeten will be forcefully returned to you (if you're banned from the species, it will be revoked into the shelter) and you will receive two strikes.

18. The only time Sweetens can be traded offsite is if they're transferred out of the species. This is defined as making your Sweeten into a regular OC that happens to have a Sweeten form, much like when users commission Sweeten forms of their pre-existing OCs, but with extra rules attached. However, to do this you must have at least one piece of artwork of your Sweeten (note: please don't purposefully scribble something in five seconds to get around this) and you must ask first before transferring your Sweeten out. However, please note if you transfer your Sweeten out of the species you lose the right to use it in this UMA such as participating in events with it, adding items, or breeding it until it's transferred back into the species, so this is highly recommended only to be done if you're leaving the species and/or Chicken Smoothie. You are welcome to make your Sweeten into an OC without transferring it out, and you do not need permission to have your Sweeten made into other UMAs. To reiterate: this process specifically is only meant for when you're leaving CS and Sweetens entirely but still want to keep your Sweetens, without being confined to the trading offsite rule.

Banned users cannot do this.

Any Sweeten that is returned to me or is not adopted from a litter in 24 hours will be placed into the shelter so that a new litter can be posted. It can still be adopted at any time, and you can also adopt a Sweeten from here that came from a litter you already adopted from! But you can still only adopt one every twelve hours (this is separate from the litter cooldown, don't worry!)

Sometimes, a shelter Sweeten may be marked with conditions (such as only for those without a Sweeten), and it will say so next to it if this is the case.

Welcome to the Sweeten Shop! Here is where you can buy items for your Sweeten.
Items are purchased with feathers . To use your items, you will have to provide proof that you own the item in question, via a trade link or screenshot!
More items will be added over time, so check back here sometimes!

Feathers are primarily earned through community participation. Here are some things that can earn you feathers:

• You can collect x 100 for free per month. Below are in addition to this bonus.
• Trying to adopt from a litter or shelter drop (You do not need to actually win the Sweeten, you just need to have posted at least one form for that litter before I posted saying "All gone" or similar. Only one form per litter will count) will earn you x 100.
• Dressing up your Sweetens (yourself) will earn you x 50 per Sweeten (you can only get this amount per Sweeten, not item, and you can only get feathers for dressing up a certain Sweeten once a month.)
• If you put a Sweeten in your signature, you may claim x 500 a month (you do not get them until the end of each month)
• If you put the Sweeten stamp in your signature (in affiliates below), you may claim x 300 a month (you do not get them until the end of each month)
• Participating in minor events (ones hosted on the main thread or other primary Sweetens threads, rather than getting its own individual dedicated event thread. Think, entering thread raffles) will earn you x 100.
• Participating in major events will have info on the dedicated threads at the end of the event.
• Trying out for breedings or custom openings will earn you x 50 (only if your form was valid and posted when it was made clear they were open, had the necessary items, and followed the rules)
• Posting at least five messages (that are not clearly just spam) in the Sweetens Discord server per month (counted at the end of the month) will earn you x 100.
• Joining Discord server giveaways and participating in giveaway games will earn you x 100.
• Donating one or more Sweetens to the shelter will earn you x 500! But this bonus can only be obtained once a month, and applies to all Sweetens donated in a month, not per Sweeten. (this will be moderated, please don't adopt Sweetens just to get feathers out of donating them)
  
• A one-time only bonus for those with broken co-op archives: you will get x 1000 if you get yours up to date with working image URLs! Remember the Filegarden above is your friend. This will have its own form below the regular one as it will only ever be used once per member.
• A one time bonus of x 500 can also be earned if you decorate your co-op archive! There's free borders on the co-op thread, or you can use whatever images or symbols you want as long as they're free to use. But URLs in your co-op must be all working to receive this bonus.

Some may be added with time.

Alternatively, you can buy feathers with C$. 1C$ = x 20. CS pets are not accepted.

Do not try to lie about the amount of feathers or items you have. I check trades/will notice and you will receive a strike if caught.

Accessories and potions/tickets can be refunded for feathers, but feathers themselves cannot be refunded, all trades are final. (The exception to this will be if Sweetens ever shuts down.) This is to keep track of who has received bans/strikes. The reasoning for any strikes or bans received will not be listed here.
Do not harass any user on this list (if it's found out that you harassed these users, you will be permanently banned.) Please do not ask why they're here, either.

For those not banned, their usernames aren't listed in the list itself. The only usernames given are those who are banned so that others know they cannot be traded with or breed their Sweetens with them.

1 Strike: Warning
2 Strikes: Temporary ban of variable length depending on the offense or temporary restrictions on a certain thing, such as adopting or trading
3 Strikes: Banned for a year
4 Strikes: Banned permanently

One strike will fade after six months (with the exception of strike 3 and 4, which never fade), and this period starts after your ban (so the six months is added to the amount of time you were banned). Strike 4 is intended to be a "lite permaban" that runs out to give you a second chance if you've done growth after a year's time.

If what you did is particularly egregious (stealing someone's Sweeten on purpose, making Sweeten adopts (using the lineart) without permission, blatantly and intentionally claiming our artwork as your own, using alt accounts to get more Sweetens, harassing other members, etc.) you may be instantly permabanned. You may also be banned for any reason deemed fit, even if not in the rules (you won't be banned without valid reason however.)

During a ban, you may not interact with any Sweetens threads or spaces, including posting on ANY Sweetens threads for any reason, adopting from litters/the shelter, trading/gifting/breeding/selling, or participating in the Sweetens Discord server.. Breaking any of these conditions during a temp ban leads to strike 3, a second time leads to strike 4. Attempting to post after this point will lead to you being reported to CS staff.

If you're permanently banned, you can still keep your Sweetens, unless:

• You have been caught using alts, in which any Sweetens you obtained after December 8th, 2021 using alt accounts, even if you trade them to your main account, will be revoked and sent to the shelter
• You try to trade/sell a sweeten adopted after July 29th, 2022 offsite after you've been banned to evade trade bans--said sweeten will be revoked and sent to the shelter

But, other than those two scenarios, the above applies. If for any reason you don't want your Sweetens, DM me and they'll be placed in the shelter, or you can ask me to gift them to select people. Feathers will not be refunded and items will go to the void.

If staff make it to strike 3, they will be removed from staff.

Please note that if I have you blocked for whatever reason, or if you have me blocked for whatever reason (because I cannot moderate things if we don't want to see or speak to each other) it's an automatic permanent ban unless the block on either side is lifted. You will be placed on this list if you decide to post.
