If someone spent 30 minutes on a character design that was just as good as a design someone else spent an hour on, I know people who would pay twice as much for the design done in an hour rather than the one done in 30 minutes because 30 minutes is "rushed" even if they're relatively the same quality. So I think the timer can be harmful in those ways. The timer can also be discouraging to artists who take longer to do their art to produce similar products as people who take less time.
I believe the latter one is a good reason to manually turning the timer off. However, when you pay for an artist's work, you are paying for their time. They are taking their time away from other matters to create a piece of work nobody else can make, for their client. Those who commission often are aware of this and so are willing to pay accordingly. And that is a good thing overall; it values artists and their time. That is one way the oekaki timer can be useful: using it track how long it takes someone to draw and then using it to price their work.
Sorry if this is off-topic. But I do support this because already I'm a bit stressed by the fact Oekaki just records it and my drawing sessions, and then
publishes it. I don't always want that info out.

I agree with this, however people could just leave oekaki open for several hours in order to make it seem like they've spent hours on something, just to squeeze more money out of people. It's a catch 22, the timer really should be optional. If I wanted to time myself I'd use some app or a stopwatch... not replying to bump this topic either, not at all

Sorry in advance if I forget things, feel free to poke and remind me. Struggling with life at the moment.
