↬ prompt: Santa awoke in a mass of black fog, and turned around in confusion. Her sleepiness, from just having woken up, was quickly burning into wisps in the rolling fog. "Who's there?" she called. "What is this?"

    A pause.

Then, she heard a distinct "Ding dong," and she knew.

"Ding dong! November 15th, 2017. The earth is online."

The black tower, her past. "Are you coming back?" she asked, her sleepiness coming back now that she knew it was just the black tower. She sat down patiently, and waited for the black tower's response.

It remained silent, but the fog around her cleared up, and it showed many of her past triumphs as Santa, riding her sleigh around all year long. Flashes of her throwing gifts appeared here and there.

But it ended soon enough, and Santa woke up. What's going on? she wondered to herself. The black tower appearing again, showing her flashes of her past, but what for?

    ---

The next night, the black tower came again. It only showed flashes of her current peaceful life, and Santa found herself slightly bored, watching the mundane, recent events of her life happen again. And she felt a little discomforted too, seeing her private moments flashing around her once more.

The present, she mused. Would the future be next?

    ---

    The future was indeed next.

"Ding dong! December 8th, 2022. eNUF is online."

Her pupils dilated. The future? Was the black tower truly about to come to eNUF, and destroy this peaceful life? Was it time for them to... evolve?

    She pondered over it slowly.

Surely, when the time came, she would become a boss once more.

↬ prompt: Firestrike had been asleep for some time. Though tonight he was asleep outside of camp in his secret den he had. Why? Well he was a little emotional today and had to step aside for a bit.

The wind began to pick up and his fur sensed it. Slowly he woke up with a shiver and looked around. Why was it so windy all of the sudden? The tom yawned and got up out of the den before he realized he was standing face to face with a spirit. He couldn’t speak. He was in shock because this spirit for sure didn’t seem like any ordinary Wonderer. This was different. They didn’t even have a defined body. Said spirit also gazed upon the cat in front of them. They were here for a reason. With a gentle chilly touch it grew closer and pressed it’s supposed head against the cat sending them into a trance of memories…

The past… it wasn’t the best memories of Firestrike’s life. He was often bullied and even neglected by his own father Dragonfruit sometimes. They were one of the best warriors out there and upon the clan finding out Dragonfruit had a litter of kittens outside of the clan, they were outraged. Firestrike wasn’t treated right from the start. His own father turned on him after their expectations of him began to grow more than he was capable of. The memory itself showed one of the rare times Dragonfruit broke their shell. There he was as little Firekit resting alone in a nest he made all by himself. It was winter and he was freezing. Already the strong warrior had begun to neglect some bonding but without hesitation, this time Dragonfruit approached the little kit and laid down next to him wrapping their tail around him. Slowly they began to groom his fur up and sleep right beside him… morning rose and Dragonfruit slipped back to their own nest but just for a night, he was loved.

Present… a moment he overlooked. Wait… he was back at camp and seeing the cat he argued with before racing out. His mate Windwhisper was laying there in the nest they shared together just with a deadpan stare. He sighed and slowly began to arose and make his way out to the freshkill pile. He grabbed a bird, one of Firestrike’s favorites and made his way back to the den before dropping it outside and made his way inside. A bird for when Firestrike returned incase he was hungry… Windwhisper wasn’t one to show his emotions a lot and Firestrike had grown to accustom to it but every now and then their personalities would clash and they’d fight. Though he’s never seen the other side of the argument with Windwhisper. Even after all of that the tom still had consideration for him. Still loved him…

The future was naturally something Firestrike worried around. He didn’t like the unknown about it. Yet this was something completely different than what he expected… it was him and his mate and… oh great another litter of kittens but hey that’s okay. All he knew is that he saw love for his new litter and his mate and the other kittens he’s had. It’s just a den of love and hope looking down at the little bundles of fur… that’s it. So he’s always been loved huh? In different forms it’s showed up and he’s just been oblivious to it?

Firestrike soon woke up in a daze. The sun was shining in on the den and lit up the room. He slowly sat up and stretched before remembering what happened. He just laid there before smiling and got up to return back home. Upon doing so he was greeted instantly by his mate who almost tackled him into a nuzzle. With a chuckle, Firestrike saw Windwhisper race back and bring him the freshkill he saw in his daze last night. How charming.

    ↬ word count: 1,327 words!!
    ↬ prompt:
Scallop was curled up, fast asleep, in her nest when the vision came to her. It was a dream, really.

She was disoriented as she opened her eyes, finding only the dark, rolling waves of the sea before her and an endless sky of dark grey clouds. How did she get on the deck of the ship? Scallop looked around, and then looked down at her paws, which was a mistake. There was nothing underneath her! She yelped, bracing herself for the shock of cold she knew would come soon, eyes shut tight.. but it never came. She hesitantly opened an eye, seeing that she was still standing atop the water and straightening up. She was actually standing on top of the water, she wasn't in it, and she couldn't feel it. But she could see the waves passing over her front paws. This was weird.

A bright light caught Scallop's attention, making her spin to the side, watching as a star seemed to get brighter and brighter before her- getting closer. It suddenly split into three, two of the stars hovering far above her. But the third floated down to the water, the starlight twisting and shaping itself into a cat, soft stars making their pelt shine as they gracefully landed on the waves, padding up to Scallop.

Scallop stayed silent as they stared at each other, she had no idea what to make of this situation. She wasn't even sure if this was a dream or not, or if she was just going crazy.

"Star child, it's nice to finally speak to you like this." The cat said, their voice was like sunlight and warm sands during the summer.

"Star child?" Scallop asked hesitantly, her voice shaking much more than she intended.

"Yes, you've been blessed by the moon mother. You are one of hers. You are still so young, but she's decided that you're ready for your first.. visit." The cat meowed, leaning down to press their nose above her eye that had been changed when one of the Seer's had brought her back to life- the one that looked like a star. "I am sister Past, up there is Present and Future."

Scallop blinked for a few seconds before she snorted, having to muffle her laughter as her tail flicked back and forth. Past watched her with curiosity. "Sorry, sorry. It's just- it's just like the story my mother told me as a kitten. The ghosts of past, present, and future. Come to tell me to be a better cat and learn from my mistakes. I never thought this could be real."

"Ah, well, everything is rooted in truth, dear. And while we are here to talk to you about your life, what you take from it depends on you." Past spoke softly, sitting down in front of Scallop and using her tail to pat the spot next to her. "Sit. Let us speak."

Scallop sat next to the cat made of starlight, following her gaze to stare up at the stars, finding many more than she was used to- it was breathtaking and disconcerting.

"You've lived a hard life for someone so young, Scallop. Taken from your parents and forced to be in a home that was not meant for you, surviving on the streets at such a young age, even if it was your choice. Losing half of your eyesight. The fall to the ocean, ending up on the ship.. everything up until this point. But you've done well, and you're on the right path. Our mother is proud of you, star child, your past will only make you stronger. Do not fear what has come before, accept it and let it prepare you for what is to come." Past spoke, gazing down at Scallop beside her. Scallop stayed quiet as she listened, surprised to find her eyes watering as she looked away and down at her paws, resting her tail over them. "I'm sorry I don't have more advice to give you. That's more of my sibling's jobs. I'll go to them now, you won't be seeing me for a long while, but know that I look upon your path with love."

Scallop startled as Past suddenly leaped, legs propelling her up and she quickly faded back into that star form, rising to float next to her siblings. The second of the three came floating down, transforming into a cat just as Past did. This cat was much taller, towering over Scallop as they sat next to her.

"I am brother Present. It's nice to finally meet you, star child." Present meowed, leaning down to press his nose to Scallop's head. "I will not waste time, I don't like putting off the inevitable, and I promise I won't take long. I know you must be itching to hear about your future.. I know how difficult life seems to you, how you feel like you don't belong on the ship. But you do, I can promise you that. This is your home, Scallop. You are the moon mother's child, destined for the sea. Stay with your path, trust in the crew, trust Ember. She will not steer you wrong. Your future is bright. Believe in us and believe in her." Present gazed up at the moon, and Scallop looked as well, watching in fascination as something seemed to move in it's surface. Like it was a great, glittering pelt of a cat. When Scallop turned back to Present, he was gone, and the last of the stars was floating down to her. It was the smallest of them all, but it was by far the brightest. And as the cat took shape beside her, they were almost the same height.

"Hello, Star child. It's odd seeing you like this. I've been watching your life so often, seeing where it could lead."

"And where does it lead?" Scallop asked quietly, staring at the cat beside her. They could almost be siblings, they looked so similar, but that might have been on purpose. Future smiled, shaking their head and brushing against Scallop.

"I cannot tell you that, my friend. That is for you to decide. But know that we can all see a greatness in you. A brightness. You have the potential to be one of the greats of the sea. But it is up to you to follow that path and become that cat. Your future, your destiny, it is your own. The moon mother will try to push you to the right path, but if you do not wish to follow it, she will not stop you." Future leaned against Scallop as they spoke, and it felt like both a terrible coldness and a wonderful warmth at the same time. She supposed that's what a star should feel like. "I have faith in you, in your future. I am excited to see where it goes. And I do hope that you might name a kitten after me someday." Future's eyes were sparkling as they looked at Scallop, joy and humor showing there. Scallop just stared for a moment- kittens! She would have a family! Before breaking out in a grin. The future was supposed to be this daunting thing, but it was more like the warmth and happiness that came with being with someone you loved.

"Thank you. To all three of you. I'll make you proud." Scallop said, touching her nose to Future's. Future laughed before springing into the air much like their sister, the star they became floating up to combine again with the other two. The voice that came next was a mix of all three of them.

"Go now, you have much to do. And say hi to the Seer for us."

Scallop woke with a start, nearly jumping to her paws. Ember was awake an instant later, staring up at her in worry and confusion. "Scallop?"

"I must see Empty Shore. I've had my first vision."

    • present: “how long will you hide?” soft and airy, the silvery wisp twirled, the syllables trilling. “you hide and you hide and you hide. you let the winds, the moons, the stars all choose for you under the pretense that you don’t care.” a sharp inhale. “but you care… don't you?”

    • future: “there comes a time where you must choose. you must make a choice and commit to it. and whether hell or heaven, flood or droughts, famine or pestilence, you must cling to it. you must commit. the time is coming where you must put every single piece of you into that decision, because it will be your becoming.” the third wisp swiveled, a darkened puff of indigo smoke, slowly extinguishing. “or your unbecoming.”

    ↬ word count: 2265 words
    ↬ prompt:

Tiikeri finds himself a solitary spot as the activity in the barn begins to wind down, a quick hop- one, two- and he's leapt from hay bale stack to a solid windowsill with stripping paint. The wood is soft but stable under his paws and for the first second since they arrived he lets his guard down, allows himself a second to experience true emotions. His expression and his shoulders sink and his gaze drops to the ground, lost in thought.

It really wasn't that long ago that he had made the call, sending out those eight into an unforgiving cold and bitter wilderness with which they weren't familiar, not when you consider the grand scheme of things. Each discovery of the five lost was burned into his soul, a scar- no, a branding from which he'd never escape. Tiikeri would do anything to repent his mistake.

Guilt and shame clenches at his chest sending a cruel, chilly trill through his spine. His back tingles and Tiikeri glances behind him, down at the straw laiden floor far below where Leijona chases more novices off to their temporary nests.

    "It's only for the season."
"Aw, but why can't we stay?"
    "It won't always be safe."
"But the no-furs aren't coming back, are they?"
"Well... no... we don't think so. It's just best to trust the mist. Right now, the moon glows over this place but when Eversun arrives it's going to be hot and dry. This place won't do us any good then."
    "Wouldn't-"
"Come now. One day, you'll understand. Enjoy the time we have here, and get some rest."

The chocolate dappled molly nudged the young novices shoulder with her muzzle, pushing them towards a stack of old bales shoved in a corner of the barn.

There's a moment where Tiikeri thinks she might look up, spot him in his secluded position, but she doesn't. He watches the mane molly survey the barn floor, briefly the rafters directly overhead, and then pads back towards the piled bags of old seeds where the Hunters and Runners have curled up for the evenings sharing of tongues.

There's a moment where Tiikeri's heart sinks with loneliness, just when he shakes his head to clear the feeling and the thoughts of isolation, a cold breeze sweeps in from the large open window and ruffles his fur. Looking down to the snow below, he doesn't notice the heavy mist accumulating beside him, flecked with snow. It takes a moment to realize he's not alone but accompanied instead by a spectral form of mist and ice, he jumps to his paws and nearly loses footing when he hers the frigid crackling of frost growing on the feline form.

"Wh- what in Myistera's light-!" He gasps, disturbed and shocked at the sight.
"Don't you remember me?" A wheezing, whistling wind carries the words barely audible, punctuated by the faintest of silver bells.
Tiikeri's heart still beats feverishly, stunned by what he's seeing but he tries to steady himself and takes a closer look. "No...?" He mumbles, weekly.
The sound of ice cracking and spreading follows the mist's movement as it stands on four paws to regard him. The forn is slight, with tall ears and a small head. The eyes glow brilliant blue and though the snow in its shape is constantly shifting he can tell its maintaining a general pattern- a swirled pattern. "While your family gathers to share their cheer and love, why are you so far away?" The wind whistles, curious. Prying.

Tiikeri is taken aback by the remote concern in the unfamiliar voice, he quickly licks flat a few strands on his back that were sticking up in his surprise before carefully stepping back towards the icy feline. "Well... they're celebrating." There's a long pause between the two of them, the eerie being continues to peer at him with gleaming eyes, expectant. Hesitant, he elaborates. "...I just can't see a reason for me to celebrate."

There's a thaw to the creature's demeanor and it settles into a sitting position, a flick of its misty, apparating and disapparating tail gestures for him to do the same and Tiikeri with wariness waning entertains the invitation by making himself at home at their side. "You worry about your loss," It clarifies coolly. "I see. Let me show you what you don't know."

Tiikeri makes to move away as the frosty feline leans forward to touch it's nose between his eyes but he's just not quick enough to react, he expects a chill to bury deep into his soul but instead a warmth tingles from its point of contact all the way through to his toes and tail tip. Eyes squeezed shut, he doesn't know what he was expecting but he's nevertheless incredibly shocked to open his eyes and discover that... He's deep in the snow.

Buried to his haunches in a frozen snowbank, Tiikeri is at a loss for the moment. The strange, mystical warmth lingers in his limbs and he realizes as he's standing there half-consumed in the drift that he can't feel the icy twinge of snow at all. A cool breeze carries flecks of ice and ruffles his fur, he can feel it clearly and shivers in response but the feeling is quickly followed by an even stronger warmth, emanating from his right. When he turns to look over his shoulder to the source he sees the same figure, but this time the frosty shell that encased its body is melting away. Wisps of mist still cling and swirl around a pale cream coat and pool at white paws that hover slightly off the top of the snow.

"Jalkiruoka-!" Tiikeri gasps, immediately all his previous hesitations vanish. The cream tom's expression shifts into a warm regard, twinged slightly by underlying sorrow.

"Shh," Jalkiruoka hushes Tiikeri, touching his tailtip to Tiikeri's flank. "you'll miss it."

"Miss... what-?" Tiikeri's eyes follow Jalkiruoka's gaze out into the snow, where he's stunned once again to see his old home.

The Gladewood Grove stands tall, with its trees spanning twenty feet wide and their branches reaching far further above than any of them had ever dared to try to climb. Not even the tiniest bit of charcoal tints their glorious red bark, no yellowing or browning to verdant green foliage. His heart is simultaneously lifted as it is driven with a pain and longing to run towards it but in that moment, Tiikeri finds himself unable to move more than a single step forward.

Tumbling in the lighter snowfall, three kittens leap and bound, before a young brown-striped and white tom pounces on a much younger cream-coated Jalkiruoka whose white paws and belly are turned to the air. They roll into the cold and mewls of distress at the chill arise from both while their third mottled companion stifles giggles from only a kitten's tail away, both give up on their play tussle and leap to frozen feet with fur drenched flat, shivering from nose to tail. "Mooooom-!" Tiikeri's young, strained voice mewls loudly, taking slow and awkward steps back towards one of the trees nearby. The blotched molly and cream tom share a glance while the young Tiikeri disappears into a crack within the tree's trunk, it's not long before a diligent, young, recently-kitted queen comes out from another of the dens and plods through the snow with quick light steps. "Tahra, Jalkiruoka, what's happened?" The concern in her voice is heavy and she appears to be a bit on edge, the hair on her back risen all the way down her spine.

Tahra shrugs blotched shoulders and mewls back to the slight, older molly, "We were just playing a second ago..." Both of his companions seem at a loss, disappointed to see him run off and displeased to see her so worried over what they thought to be nothing. "He ran into the elder den again."

There's a pause when Laiska looks over the two kittens and regards their state, particularly Jalkiruoka who is wet from the snow as well. She sighs, "I wish you wouldn't cause each other so much trouble..." After only a moment the blotched queen scoops Jalkiruoka up by the scruff and is received with harsh protest for only a moment before the kitten relaxes in her grasp, he knows he won't get out of this one.

Tahra follows after them into the den and Tiikeri watches as the wind kicks up, stirring the snow into a swirl that obscures the scene, a few moments later the snow and frost all settles again to something else.

In the distance, he can see over a dozen bodies huddled together in the snow. It's heavier, the snowfall is thick and the details of their coats are too hard to make out but he knows exactly what he's looking at. The Wanderers are many foxlengths away, trying their best to sit through the coldest of Leafbare's might, at the center of the group he knows the same brown-striped and white, young novice he once was is huddled with everyone else.

However here, his present self watches that young Tiikeri and the other cats disappear in the distance while they move further and further away with the wind. Tiikeri can still feel Jalkiruoka's radiating presence at his side, soon he can also see a young novice Jalkiruoka and Tahra pushing their way through the snow. "Why are you doing this?" The young cream tom calls out to her, but her blotched ears don't even swivel towards him, too focused on her intent.

"If we don't do something, he's going to starve-!" She growls, head low and pushing through the whipping winds and torrent of heavy snowflakes. Jalkiruoka struggles to keep up with her but he keeps pushing through, bounding a few times to keep up but every attempt drains much of his little remaining energy. Tiikeri can see the pain and sadness in Jalkiruoka's face, as well as the deep inner conflict brewing.

"You've scaring the prey away, stop it-!" She hisses over her shoulder as he leaps again over a deep patch of snow, causing a nearby branch to fall and drop more snow onto the ground. Jalkiruoka doesn't respond, half-covered in snow and dragging his paws. They don't find anything for what feels like hours, Tahra barely is able to drag her own paws through the snow at this point. Another branch dips, dumping a heap of cold snow right onto her back and she collapses under it.

Tiikeri desperately wants to call out to her, wants to tell her that Jalkiruoka isn't behind her anymore but she doesn't even notice. Doesn't even look back. He watches her lay there, back rising with shallow breaths. In the distance, he hears Laiska's familiar maternal voice calling for them. "Tahraaaa-!" She yowls, "Jalk- Jalkiruoooookaa!" She's heaving heavily in between, feet moving fast but much heavier than they used to be.

Laiska reaches the blotched molly novice but when she does, the shallow rise of her pelt is barely noticeable. There's only a few foxlengths between her and the cream coat of Jalkiruoka, mostly hidden by snow, it doesn't take long for Laiska to find him and when she does she's devastated. Tiikeri watches a look pass over her face he's never seen before, one of painful contemplation. At this moment, both novices are in a dangerous state... but they're not kittens anymore.

With a heartbreaking clench in his chest, Tiikeri realizes she can't carry them both. Her body strains with every step already, even if she were to put one on her back she might collapse on the way back and not end up making it. He can tell Laiska has realized this too and he expects her to take longer but she's quick to decide.

Laiska turns her back on Tahra, whose breath and heartbeat is stronger and would be more likely to make it all the way back, and she grabs Jalkiruoka by the scruff without another moment of contemplation. She doesn't look back, just pushes away into the Leafbare storm back towards the group far out of sight from where she came.

The snow is kicked up again to obscure the scene, but Tiikeri knows what happens next. Laiska arrives back to the group, Jalkiruoka clutched in her jaws. He's lucky enough to recover and the snow thaws before any others starve, but they never find Tahra. Laiska told him she was gone, that she only saw the cream tom and no one else was out there.

He can't help but feel slightly betrayed by that lie, though when he thinks deeper about it he can't help a bit of sympathy in the realization that he'd told similar lies to the families of those that lost loved ones in the original arrival to the barn.

It had crushed him when he found Jalkiruoka, the fifth and last of the eight to fall in their efforts to find shelter all those years ago. Now, he shares a glance with Jalkiruoka, the pale tom gives him a comforting smile. "Just because their celebrating doesn't mean they're not suffering. They're supporting each other."

Tiikeri looks away, the scene clears back to where he sits alone on the old barn's window sill. The vision gone and so is the icy form of his brother Jalkiruoka, his voice lingering in the back of the brown-striped tom's mind as he picks his way down the hay stack to share tongues with the others. "They're your family. Go to them, let them support you too."

brokenstar was sound asleep one night during the coldest time of the year. she was dreaming of hunting in the snow like she used to do. but now that she was a leader, she didn't get to do that as often as she would have liked.

she awoke very suddenly, like she was pulled out of it somehow. she looked around and saw nothing that would've been the cause of startling her awake. so, she closed her eyes once more, thinking nothing else of it.

      "b r o k e n s t a r . . . "

her eyes snapped open. she heard a voice echoing off the walls. she sat up very quickly, waiting for her eyes to adjust to the darkness once more.

      "b r o k e n s t a r . . ."

it sounded closer this time. almost as if it was whispering into her ear. she swear she could feel the breath on her neck.

suddenly, a spirit appeared in front of her. a ghost? she wasn't sure what to call it, but it sure wasn't alive the way she was. it was a cat, but almost completely see-through. mist was drifting off of it's body in a haze. she wasn't sure if she was still dreaming or not, so she just stayed still and silent, studying the cat before her.

as she studied the misty cat, she realized something. this cat looked exactly like her. same markings and everything. what was going on?

"hi brokenstar," the intruder said, normally this time.

"h-hello," brokenstar stuttered. "are you..." she couldn't finish the question.

"i am the ghost of your past, present, and future," the shadow of herself said while licking their paw. "i have some things i need to tell you."

brokenstar just stared at this weird phantom that was sitting right in front of her. she thought for sure she had to be dreaming still. but she decided to entertain it, anyways.

"what do you have to tell me, then?"

the shadow of herself stopped licking their paws and started to walk towards her. "first. something about your past."

she was utterly confused. why would she need to be told something about her past? she was the one who lived it!

"do you remember much of your childhood, brokenstar?" they sat only a couple feet away from her now. staring into her soul.

she gave it a minute of thought. the more she tried to remember the events in her childhood, the further the memories seemed to be. she never really sat and tried to visualize her childhood. brokenstar was in sheer disbelief at her lack of memories.

"i... don't," she whispered in response.

      "do you know why?"

"no. do you?" brokenstar asked hesitantly.

"i do," they responded with a sly grin. "that's one of the things i'm here to tell you."

"then why do i not remember? what happened?" she was beginning to get inpatient. she didn't like beating around the bush.

"are you sure you're ready for the truth of your past?"

"yes! tell me!" she was on the edge of her metaphorical seat. she needed to know. she deserved to know.

"you were born into a kittypet life." the words were like swords to her heart. what? how? this didn't seem possible. "at first, it was wonderful. you had three siblings, and you all got along so well." they started smiling like these were their memories. she guessed that in a way, they were.

"not too long after you had become independent, your twolegs decided they didn't want you. so, they threw you and your siblings outside." they choked on the final word, their eyes closed and head down. so that's how she got here? that's how she became a part of snowclan? where were her siblings?

"where are my siblings?" she asked quickly.

"now i must tell you something about the present," they responded, lifting their head up. "not all of your siblings survived." more swords to the heart. she didn't even remember her siblings, but hearing this news was still extremely painful.

"who survived? where are they?" there was urgency in brokenstar's voice. she stood on all fours, ready to run to wherever they were.

      "only one survived. your sister."

"where is she?!" brokenstar practically yelled. she needed to find her. bring her to snowclan.

"she was picked up by another pair of twolegs a long time ago. she is living in luxury and is pampered all day, every day."

what was she supposed to do now? how could she take her sister away from a life of luxury? that would just be selfish. unless, of course, her sister wanted to leave. if she wanted to leave and join brokenstar in snowclan...

      "where is this twolegs place?"

"i must tell you something about your future now, i'm afraid," the shadow of herself said, ignoring her question completely.

"she will not come with you. even if you find her and tell her all about snowclan, she will not leave," a slight tear started to slide down to their whiskers. "the only way to make sure you rekindle this connection is to not ask her to come with you."

what? she had no idea what this meant? she couldn't ask her own sister to come join snowclan? then why did this ghost even come to her in the first place?

"you may go to her and tell her who you are, but the moment you ask her to come with you, she will begin to resent you. she will think you're selfish. if you go to her, let your focus be on the relationship itself, not her giving up the life she loves just to please you. you can visit her every single day, but never ask her to come back with you." and with that, the shadow disappeared just as fast as it had appeared.

she stood there in the deafening silence. she still had no idea where her sister was. how was brokenstar supposed to find her in the first place? she needed to think about this before she made any rash decisions. she knew that the ghost meant well and wanted to make sure that things were going to work out right this time. brokenstar knew she needed to listen to the ghost of her past, present, and future.

it was like a daydream. among the daffodils and crestfallen bluebells, the little princess froliced with flora and fauna, a murmuring song on her lips as she sang goodnight to the stars.

the phantom’s grin was lavish, fabricated of draping silks as each of their cashmere tendrils bloomed, dainty as they traced the memory adorned with gold and silver.

“ah… those were the good days… hm, darling?”

present. it was like a nightmare. everything was falling apart. and- and someone was watching. gemstone eyes ever-so fleeting in the endless dark along with the delicate flutter of their footsteps.

“hello… is anyone there?” even the wraith knew the answer to that question.
but they- they didn’t say anything.

and as for their future… there was nothing. no happily-ever-afters. no enchanting love story. no prince to save her soul.
just the mocking sigh of the wraith as they dwindled into nothing.

↬ prompt: The ghost of the past appears as the first leader of the clan before the Clam of Roaring Silence. The Clan Shrouded in Mist’s Miststar appearing as a dense cloud. She speaks fondly of the old clan traditions brought by cats from all over combining theirs and making new ones that lasted till the new clan through their memories.

The present shifts between the many cats in the clan often. They then show how the half kittypets spend their Christmas. How their two legs spoil them while respecting their independence.

The future appears as the recently passed Badgerstar, after a warm reunion he sets about showing the clan in ruin should they loose their unity and hope as a clan who accepts no one but their own and let the betrayals of a few cause them to shut their boarders. It shows how the valley dries up and the land withers, the cats constantly on edge and bickering.

It was late at night, Shadowstalk stared up at the sky, so full of stars. Their fur bristled in the stiff night air. It almost hurt to breath with how cold the air was. Suddenly before them was spirit, so pale and faded that Shadowstalk could tell anything other than the fact that they were there. Shock nipped at the clan leaders pelt.

"Hello, Shadowstar." The voice was quiet, but somehow surrounded Shadiwstalk completly. They were dumbfounded.
"Actually its Shadiwstalk.. i dont- dont really use the whole star part." The spirit cat glared at them darkly. Atleast thats what Shadowstalk thought. It was puzzling, staring into where the cats eyes should have been
"You lead this clan, yet you cannot call yourself a leader? You are weaknand softwilled, like the other kittypets. It is not surprising in the least. I have been sent here to help you though." The ghost cat paced in a circle around the leader. The air seemed to get.. cooler. Shadowstalk shivered and stared at their dark paws, a sillouete against the fresh snow. "Look out tonight, rest well.. you may have some visitors."

Shadowstalk shook off the encounter as a figment of their stressed imagination. "Maybe i do need sleep-". They turned around and paced back into the leaders den. "Tonight couldnt get more odd.."

    Indeed it could.

Shadowstalk woke up to three more, Ghosts? They seemed solid, like any other cat but someting was off. "Who? Who are you?"

The one in the middle whos pelt was light, but their face was shrouded, covered by a long cloak, spoke first; "Hello Shadowstalk."

The second cat, to the left of the first was dark, like Shadowstalk but with big white spots and harsh blue eyes, like the ice against the water. "You sleep well?"

The third cat, whos body was low to the ground and covered in scars. Their eyes shone with an anger that could only be from years of anger and hurt. "You look scared."

"Are you all ghosts? Or-or our ancestors?" Suddenly a simply terrible idea came into their head. "Or- Are you evil?" To the the cat covered in scars let out a cackled.

"No but we have come to help you. We are the spirits of seasons past, present and future. We will show you all of the paths you may take so you can choose one." The scarred cat turned her head. "Whos going first?"

"Oh!oh me! Im the spirit of season past, i will point to an imporatnt part of your past season." The cat came and rested her head across Shadowstalk's shoulder. They wanted to run but something, fear maybe, kept them still.

Suddenly they were in a familier place. Their old twoleg house. And their was Shadowstalk, only a couple moons older than an apprentice. It was the first time their owner had let them out. In the snow. The first snow fall of leafbare. It was beautiful. "M-my old home?" The little dark ghost cat nodded. Shadowstalk's youngerself hopped over the fence and stared wandering. And the they heard the familier snap of branches before seeing Blazingmoon, the clans currnt medicine cat fall. It was their meeting.

"I think thats enough. There is only so much moonlight in the night and you know the story. My parts not as impressive and Present or future anyway-"

"Your part is just as important, but thank you past ill take it from here." A nose touched Shadowstalk's shoulder again and now her and the hooded camp were back in camp. In the mecicine den. Blazing moon sat in the glow of obe if the mushrooms that grew in her ricky underground den.

"I need to find something for Shadowstalk. For their nerves. I just hate seeing them like this." Shadowstalks heart dropped. Theur medicince cat was upset, working late into the night for them? Blazingmoon didnt have to do that.

"Your medcince cat friend wants to do that, they arnt being forced." The hooded cat answered the leaders thoughts. Shadowstalk shivered. But the hodded cat was right. Blazingmoon wouldnt be doing this if they didnt want to. "Your entire clan adores you. Yet your nervous about it? You know this. Think about it." The cloaked cat stood back and the last cat, covered in scars with the scratchy voice came into veiw.

"My turn? Great. Here we go." Another nose on her shoulder "this is the best one. Well two. Your future splits depending on tonight. Ill save the best for last though." Suddenly they were in a large dark cavern. Like the one their moonstone was housed in.

There was blood, and cats were dead on the hard stone floor. Above the destruuction on a ledge was Shadowstalk and a dark colored tabby cat. Suddenly Shadowstalk spoke. But not her currently. The cat on the ledge who looked worn and deafeated.

"Youve done it. You might aswell kill me too."

"I think id rather let you suffer. Since you have nowhere to go anymore. You cant stop me. Its my clan now. "

"No!" Some fire ignited behind that version of Shadowstalk "You will not have my clan"

"What will you do if your not here to stop me?"

    Then black

    "What? What happened next."

"You die. Thought it was obvious. This your worst ending. Of ourse you die euther way just.. wait ill show you." Suddenly the dark cave was replaced with the clans camp. It was early new-leaf. The scarred cat guided Shadowstalk back to Blazingmoon's den. There was another cat, an apprentice next to Blazingmoon. In between the twi cats was.. them. Older but much happier looking.

Blazongmoon spoke to their body "please Shadowstar, stay with us". The medicince cat pleaded. "I can cure you of white cough."

"No, Blazingmoon. I love you but it is my time. I do not worry for my clan, and i dont worry for you. You will all do ok and i will assist you from the stars." Their older form leaned up to touch Blazingmoons shoulder with their nose and winked to Shadowstalk and the scarred cat.

    "They know were here?"

"Yes, well, you know your here."

Suddenly all three cats were back and Shadowstalk was back in their den. "Why have i been shown this?"

"Thats for you to figure out" the cat represnting the present spoke. "Live in the present"

The dark cat representing the past spoke "learn from the past."

Finally the cat with all of tge scars representing the future spoke. "Dont worry what your future has in store and you will be ok."
