I haven't seen a thread for this anywhere, please point me if there is an existing one!
This is a discussion about liminal spaces, which recently became popular online.
For those who don't know, a liminal space is a transitional space, most often represented by an empty corridor or mall. Liminal spaces can evoke feelings of nostalgia, calmness or fear due to their resemblance to everyday places and their strange, eerie atmosphere. A liminal space could be a corridor, a road, the gate to heaven, a pathway, The Backrooms, etc. (more examples in these photos), usually empty of people or objects and fairly generic to make them seem more familiar.
I didn't realise that other people are as interested in them as I am! Sometimes I’d be walking down a corridor and have a sense of déjà vu and transition, and would stop and lose myself in that brief feeling. Or, I'd see a path and feel comforted by its familiarity. Now I don't feel so strange any more xD
Please keep this discussion on topic. An empty, nostalgic location may not fall into the category of a liminal space if it isn't transitional. I don't want this to get locked if it simply becomes a discussion of nostalgic locations. You may also share images and photos.
