There's a bunch of facets of CS, you're right, but they ALL have issues.
Closed species used to be something I was really into as a kid ( I joined in '09 ), but nowadays it seems that the only way to get into closed species is:
- offering absurd amounts of C$ / expensive list pets
- being able to do art
- being able to do coding
- being able to write a lot & well
- knowing popular people
I have access to none of this, so I can't participate in closed species, as they're often unfriendly to newbies.
Trading is, as people have said, horribly broken; pet values are over inflated & it's impossible for new people to get into the game. I, too, had gifted away all my expensive pets, but unlike other users, nobody gifted me. I have three lists at this point, but I had to overpay for them and now I have nothing left to trade.
The forums are dead because everyone has moved to Discord, and the way this site is 'geared towards kids' makes things unfriendly to adult members.
There's sooo many issues that could be discussed, but the point is that this site is no longer casual user friendly.
