Prompt: 1003 words!
Lilias trembled, there was something in the air, something wrong and ill at ease with the world's natural feeling. Something Malicious. She didn't like it not one bit, why did she have to come here? The little Alolan Sandshrew shook harder, it was dark here, she didn't like the dark, not one bit. Something pale moved in her peripheral vision but when she looked there was not a soul to be seen. A little noise of terror escaped her and she covered her eyes with her delicate paws.

It wasn't too long until an eerie call broke the silence, Lilias' head snapped up and she listened carefully. What was that sound? It didn't sound like anything she had ever heard before. She cast her gaze to the horizon and waited, something shot up from beyond the horizon and the delicate Sandshrew stared in awe as great wings unfurled to display Lugia. The great pokemon of the sea.

For just a few short blissful moments everything fell away and Lilias felt relief. Then she noticed it, instead of the usual pale colours that she had always known Lugia to be from paintings and illustrations it was dark and altogether different. The hope and relief drained from her body in an instant, this was not the great guardian she had always heard legends about! It was darker and just plain wrong.

A blazing form shot past the already terrified Sandshrew, startling her into moving back several steps. And yet she watched it slam into the dark Lugia causing the hovering pokemon to release a screech of rage into the gloom. The cry bounced around the area only serving to further terrify Lilias.

Flames scattered as the pokemon that had delivered the Flame charge landed neatly back on the ground. A Rapidash with a mane and tail of pure fire stared down the shadowy Lugia, not even flinching when some sort of ghost type emerged from its shadow grinning all the while.

Soon pokemon of all shapes, sizes, colours, and types started to appear and began throwing their attacks at Lugia. Leaving Lilias to stare in awe at their unwavering bravery, they kept up the attacks while some played the healing game and offered support to those that were taking the most damage.

The little Sandshrew held back merely watching the other pokemon, she wanted to help she really did but her emotions were far too busy raging war inside her head. Fear was mostly winning out but the want to help was there too. The warring thoughts were cut off abruptly when something gently tapped one of her legs. A Wurmple peered up at her, head dipping in what she assumed to be a greeting before speaking.

"Excuse me, would you be kind enough to give me a boost, I'm afraid I can't quite see how the battle is going" were the polite words.

"Oh yes of course, please feel to climb onto my back and I'll try to straighten up as much as possible for you" she replied.

"My thanks dear miss Sandshrew" he replied and moved behind her and gently began to climb before settling his first two feet on her head while the others clung to her shoulders and body. "Ah it is hard to tell how the battle is going but I think the opponent may be weakening" Crossly announced.

"Oh good, that Lugia is so scary that I've given absolutely nothing to the battle" Lilias replied fighting the urge to shift from foot to foot. That would dislodge the very polite Wurmple who was currently perched atop her back and head.

"Perhaps my dear miss we could attack together, do you perhaps know any ice-type moves?" Crossly asked.

"Ah, I know powdered snow. Is that, ok?" Was her reply, anxiety building for a few moments before the excited taps upon her head drove it away.

"That is perfect! More than enough for what I wished to do!" He crowed feet doing excitable taps on her scales. It tickled slightly and Lilas found herself very grateful that this lovely Wurmple had stopped by to ask her a favour. Though the pair would surely not do all that damage if very little to the shadowy Lugia they would have contributed to the battle. "Are you ready my dear companion?" Crossly asked, readying himself to shoot an attack of his choice.

Lilias swallowed hard and hesitated before making an almost inaudible noise of agreement. All she had to do was hit Lugia, it didn't matter where as long as both her and the charming Wurmples attacks hit. With a deep breath, she listened carefully to the short countdown and threw out powdered snow which suddenly took on a purple hue as it melded with poison sting. The pair watched their combination soar through the air and partially slap the hovering pokemon across the face. If it was possible to go pale the pair would have done, they hadn't intended on hitting Lugia in the face.

A scream of rage echoed through the area, bouncing off the cliffs and stunning several of the less hardy Pokemon. Both Lilias and Crossly flinched at the sound even as the large metallic form of a Steelix coiled in front of them to block any possible attacks. Despite the fear the gesture was very much appreciated and after a quick thank you the pair moved out of the way in order to let the more skilled pokemon handle the fight. The hard hitters quickly began throwing their strongest moves and drawing the fire and ire of Lugia.

"My name is Lilias" she offered quietly to the Wurmple as he gently climbed down from his perch atop her.

"Terribly nice to meet you miss Lilias, I am Crossly. Though I wish we'd met under less hazardous circumstances than this" he replied, offering the Sandshrew a small bow. It was understandable to feel that way, after all, meeting in a great battle against a corrupted legend was less than ideal.

Prompt:

The stars were dark, obscured by the thunderclouds. Rain crashed down upon the travelers.

“WHY ARE WE EXPLORING IN THE POURING RAIN?” A Vulpix yelled over the sound of rolling thunder.

“Because… it wasn’t supposed to rain…” The Sylveon frowned.

“WHAT?”

“Guys, calm down! There isn’t anything to worry about!” A Zorua called to their companions behind them.

“EASY FOR YOU TO SAY, FAWKES.” The Vulpix yelled.

“Lyra… Fawkes is five feet in front of you.” The Sylveon tapped their friend’s shoulder.

“O-oh. Sorry. Thanks Myth. I can’t see with my hair flopped in my eyes.” Lyra sighed, trying her best to move the water-drenched bangs from her line of sight.

“Allegiant, Paynt, are you all ok? Pebble is ok?” Myth turned to the approaching Manectric and Furfrou, who were sheltering an Aron.

“Mhm.” Allegiant grunted, the Manectric’s scars more prominent with their own soaked fur.

The Furfrou shook her head, “It’s too moist here.”

“Moist? It’s RAINY.” Pebble said, sheltered within Paynt’s Fannypack, which was wrapped around her chest.

“Are we there yet?” A Cherrim asked, peeking her head out from under Paynt’s ear.

Pebble looked at her and shook his head, “Nu-uh.”

“Almost.” Allegiant grunted. The Manectric was already moving forward, climbing the rocks ahead. The Electric type motioned his head upwards.

“Up it is, then.” Stella shrugged, burying back into the warmth of Paynt’s ear.

The group climbed further in silence, Allegiant in front and Myth bringing up the rear. As soon as the Pokémon reached the top, there was a flash of lightning, and the sound of thunder once again rolled through the sky.

“WHY DOES IT KEEP DOING THAT?” Lyra hissed, glaring at the sky as best as she could through her hair.

“Uh… guys?” Myth said, quietly, “There’s something here.”

“Wh- OH.” Fawkes gasped.

“What is it? What? Where? Who? Applesauce?” Lyra asked, frantically trying to move her bangs out of her eyes.

“That’s a big Pokémon.” Paynt said, simply.

There was a giant bird-shaped creature ahead… or rather, multiple of them, surrounded by dark clouds and jagged lightning.

“Lugia… or specifically… XD001.” Allegiant bit his lip.

“Excuse you.” Fawkes blinked.

“Shadow Lugia.” Myth clarified, “Look… there’s others. Fighting it. Or. Copies of it?”

Sure enough, a number of trainers and Pokémon alike were attempting to take down the massive beast. With a ratio of about twenty Pokémon to one Lugia, it was obvious that the real Lugia was… somewhere.

“Can Lugia even learn Double Team?” Pebble popped his head out of the Fanny pack.

“NO. Pebble stay. In the pack. NOW.” Lyra yelped.

“Okie dokie.” Pebble shrugged, disappearing back into the pack, “I guess Stella and I will play Monopoly or something.”

“Okay!” Stella cheered, crawling in after the Aron.

LUUUUUUUUUGIIIIII

“Uh… guys?” Myth stepped back, nearly trampling over Lyra’s paw.

“Oh. Arceus.” Allegiant murmured.

“Wha?” Lyra asked.

A giant cloud was making their way towards the group. It was one of the Lugia copies.

“This is fine.” Paynt said.

LUUUUUUGIIIIAAAAA

The creature screeched and somersaulted into the air, flinging four shapes towards the group.

“WATCH OUT!” One of the shapes yelled, promptly before crashing into Lyra.

“WHO? WHAT? THE SKY IS FALLING!” Lyra flailed.

“Relax. It’s just a friendly Vulpix.” The Pokémon laughed, helping Lyra up.

“Wh- who?” Lyra tilted her head to the right.

“Me! Name’s Nimbus!” The Pokémon shook out their fur. It was an Alolan Vulpix, just like Lyra, but with their bangs slicked back with…

“Bacon grease.” Nimbus smiled, catching Myth’s skeptical eye.

Myth shrugged.

“Anyways,” Nimbus continued, “Over there, tangling themselves out of the bush, is my sister, Mochi. Also known as Michu. Cause why not.”

Mochi gave the group a thumbs up, before dropping out of the bush, “Hi!” They said, before dashing towards the Lugia.

“Is that a sword?” Paynt asked, noticing something Mochi was carrying.

“Yup!” Mochi yelled over their shoulder. Allegiant followed them.

“Anyways, that’s Phantom over there.” Nimbus pointed towards the shape firing an Ice Beam at Lugia’s left wing.

The Dewgong saluted a greeting.

“And Pinkie… is… somewhere?”

“I teleported them back home!” Mochi yelled.

“Well, okie dokie then.”

“What’s happening here?” Myth asked, pointing towards Phantom, Allegiant, and Mochi fighting the Lugia.

“Lugia made a bunch of illusions with the clouds. But they’re very realistic illusions. Screeching and all.” Nimbus said plainly.

“Oh.” Myth blinked.

“A LITTLE HELP WOULD BE NICE, BROTHER.” Mochi yelled, howling an Aurora Beam.

“R-right.”

“I’ll help too.” Myth shook out their fur, “Someone make sure Lyra doesn’t fall off the edge.”

“Will do!” Paynt said, picking up a still-flailing Lyra, and moving towards a safer spot (aka using Dig and hiding in the tunnel created by it).

“Alright. This thing is a Lugia.” Allegiant said, walking back to the group. He turned to Nimbus, “Still Psychic and Flying?”

Nimbus nodded, “Looks that way.”

“Excellent.” Allegiant murmured.

“Alright. Here’s the game plan. Phantom’s shooting Ice Beams to try to freeze one of its wings. Mochi is using Copycat to counter Lugia’s Psycho Cut. Nimbus, do you know Aurora Veil and Icy Wind?”

Again, the Vulpix nodded.

“Good. Set up Aurora Veil an- “ the Manectric broke off as the sound of a Psybeam being charged grew louder.

The Manectric turned, growled, then barked, sending a Thunderbolt to disrupt the move. Lugia roared.

“Ok. Nimbus. Aurora Veil. Icy Wind, on its wing.” Allegiant said.

“Righty-o!” Nimbus said, then darted off.

Allegiant turned towards Myth, “Myth?”

“How about Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse, and perhaps a Sunny Day?” The Sylveon suggested.

“Sunny Day hasn’t had any effect so far, but maybe… you can get it to work on just this one area.” Allegiant nodded. This was obviously not his first rodeo.

“Got it.” Myth said, darting towards Lugia, as swift as the rain itself.

“Fawkes? Uh. Just don’t blow things up.” Allegiant said.

“I’ll try not too!” The Zorua grinned, then looked away.

Allegiant chuckled. Despite being annoyed by his friends, they were still good friends.

Even when a battle was raging.

With a mighty roar, he charged towards the shadow legendary, landing Slash after Bite after Thunder Fang.

Until he smelled the familiar scent of burning electricity.

Oh no.

“EVERYONE! Get back!” Allegiant roared, startling the others.

“Wh-why?” Mochi asked, sword in mouth.

Allegiant didn’t have any time to say “Just do it!” before Nimbus picked his sister up over his head and ran towards the tunnel where Paynt was.

Just as his friends disappeared into the tunnel, safe, the sky cracked open.

Light flooded the sky, but Allegiant just stood there, an expression of grim determination set on his face.

The lightning bolt hit him. Sparked across his fur. Charged his very being. His very soul.

With a howl, Allegiant leapt into the air, the stored electricity coming back to the tips of his fur, then to the air around him, as he landed a powerful Thunderbolt onto the clone.

He landed, panting, but alright. Thank Arceus for Lightning Rod.

The Lugia clone roared, then broke apart, shattering into a bunch of tiny clouds, which faded into the air.

“Hey! How come you get to do the cool stuff?” Myth’s voice said into his ear.

“Myth?” Allegiant jumped.

“What? We saw the flash. Heard the thunder and thought to check.” The Sylveon smiled.

“Fine. How’s Pebble?”

“Winning against Stella. I think the score is 82 to 2.” Myth sighed.

“Hm. We should. Help. The others. With their cloud problems.” Mochi thought aloud.

“Yes… yes… we shall.” Allegiant nodded.

“YEEHAW!” Pebble’s voice yelled from the ground below.

Prompt:
O sat on a ridge high above Moonshire, cross-legged and totally unconcerned by the chaos Unfolding below. She made no move to join the fray. She made no move to help. Heck, she made no move to do much of anything! She'd been here since just before dawn, and aside from minor shifts in position to keep her limbs from going all tingly, she hadn't budged an inch. She simply sat - her ruffs and plumes fluttering slightly in the breeze - and wondered what on earth everyone down there was doing with such frenetic abandon.

She knew they were battling. OBVIOUSLY they were battling! Any fool could see that. But... why? For what purpose? To what end...?

This darn world was so obsessed with battling....

From her perch, O could just make out a multitude of colourful blobs - presumably trainers and their Pokemon - as they milled about the valley floor, looking much like mindless ants before a rainstorm. Their movements held no rhyme, no reason, no grand organization. They weren't an army! They were instead an assemblage of independent units, all working at cross-purposes and getting in each other's way. Here someone's flying creature dodged unwittingly into the beam of another's attack. There, a Pokemon seemingly made of stone hurled boulders skyward... and accidentally launched something feline in the process. It was enough to make O roll her eyes... if she'd had any. Such ineptitude! And what of their opposition? The great and mighty enemy that had brought them all here to Moonshire? Quite simply: an angry bird that was so massive it blotted out half the valley when it spread its dark wings. As it soared from one end of the battlefield to the other, it alternately screeched with impotent fury and let off volleys of various attacks, none of which appeared to be aimed in a particular direction. It didn't really need to bother! So numerous were its foes, all the great bird really had to do was cover as much area as it could and it was nearly guaranteed to do damage. In theory, anyway - at this distance O couldn't actually tell if any of its attacks were hitting home. Though she COULD see plumes of smoke and dust that were thrown up as each missile crashed down to earth.

    The air reeked of it.

Idly, O took her head in both hands, plucked it from where it usually floated just above her shoulders, and started tossing it from hand to hand. This didn't make her dizzy. This didn't obstruct her view. Being a creature from another dimension, O's sensory processes are quite different from our own, and her disposable, unattached head is actually dreadfully unimportant to their continuation. It is, quite literally, full of air! Thus this action HELPED her think instead of distracting her. Then, suddenly, she caught her head in her left hand and lobbed it at a nearby bush, where it exploded in a burst of confetti whilst letting off a noise much like someone trying to blow three party horns at once. The commotion nearly drowned out a strangled-sounding screech. Nearly, But not quite.

From the now confetti-covered bush emerged an equally confetti-covered Mr. Mime, looking slightly rumpled and even grumpier than usual. He stood for a second, blinking sleepily and glaring at O (who returned his glare with a headless stare), then gave up, sighed deeply, and wandered over to flop down next to the Ultra Beast.

She was already busy inflating a new head from the depths of her neck-ruff.

"Can we go home now? If I have to spend another night in a bush I'm gonna lose it." This from the Mr. Mime, who had begun picking confetti from his hair and flicking it at O.

"You weren't complaining last night, dear Pocket! Besides, I'm no closer to an answer than I was, and I'd like to have SOMETHING to show for this trip."

"I'm sure Moonbeaminghamnshireington or whatever it's called has a gift-shop. We can get you a T-shirt."

O, who'd finished blowing up her head, chuckled lightly and shifted position so that she could lean against her husband. Since she was slightly taller than he, this meant that her left arm was thrown over his shoulders and her 'chin' was resting on top of his foolscap. "I know you're impatient. And I'm sorry. But I'm..."

Pocket waved a hand dismissively, cutting her off. "Curious. Yeah, yeah. You're always curious..." Then, still frowning mightily, he nevertheless took O's right hand in his left and leaned into her embrace. "I just don't see why I had to come along for this little jaunt! I could be back home right now, safe and snug snug while you bird watched. I'd be minus a third-degree sunburn, too."

O chuckled again. "You know I can't tell a Loogya from a Stirly! And you do NOT have a sunburn - you're just as pale as you usually are."

There was a moment of silence as Pocket processed this, then, as the pieces fell into place, he let out a snort. "I DO TOO have a sunburn. Can't you see how red my face is? I practically look like a roasted Corphish!" With mock indignation, Pocket began to pull away from O so she could get a better look at his complexion, only to have the Blacephalon pull him right back into her arms and plant a mouthless kiss on his lips. The Mr. Mime sputtered. "Quit trying to distract me! This is important!"

"Your non-existent sunburn is important?" As O sat back from her husband, hands folded neatly in her lap, her posture oozed polite sarcasm.

"Yes! Er.. No!" Now Pocket's face really WAS red! "I mean..."

    "You mean....?"

"I MEAN! ...I mean.... That. THAT!" Up till now, Pocket had been punctuating each word by stabbing the air with his index finger. Now, as he ran of of steam, he gave up on the dramatics and just waved his hand idly in the air. "I mean that it's Lugia and Starly. Not... Loogya and Stirly."

"Lugia..." O pronounced the word carefully, tasting every syllable, and turned to watch as the great bird launched yet another attack on the amassed trainers below. Neither side seemed to be making headway.

"Shadow Lugia to be precise. Bringer of storms. Dark reflection of the True Lugia, who's master of the Legendary Birds, Yada... yada yada." His voice trailing off to a whisper, Pocket lay back on the hillside and resumed picking confetti from his costume. The stuff was remarkably clingy! "Not all that interesting really."

"Can you pick up where we left off? You didn't get to finish the story before the battle broke out, and then you fell asleep, and... well. I want to hear the rest." She was still watching the great bird, following it with her inner eyes as it rampaged from one end of the valley to the other, then back again.

Pocket sighed loudly. "Aren't you worried that it'll see us and fry us?"

    "No."

"... of course not." He flicked a piece of confetti in the direction of Moonshire, then rolled over and propped himself up on an elbow so that he could see both O and the battlefield at the same time. "Why would you be?"

O simply shrugged. "It seems pretty busy already. Don't you think?

After a moment of silence, Pocket adjusted his position slightly and took a deep breath. "Well, you see, it's like this. Hundreds of years ago, an extremely greedy and powerful human...."

And as Pocket told his story, the battle raged on.
