Kade was honestly surprised the harsh cold hadn’t done anyone any worse damage. With it just coming into spring, a "warm" day often consisted of a temperature anywhere between 1° and -15. He’d barely heard a single complaint though. It wasn't like they weren’t used to it, but there had been a time when it hadn’t been this cold and harsh. He’d been only a year old then, but sometimes the cold and solitude from what he imagined a nice big society would’ve been like made him feel like he was missing out on a whole other world. That said, he knew these people. He knew and cared about these people, they were the only family he had ever really known.
"I haven’t seen anything this year, regretfully, but I’ll keep an eye out anyway in case anything's sprouted outside of the garden." That was one of the reasons Kade knew winter was so hard. Not only was it the coldest season, but nobody could afford to get sick for lack of sufficient resources to make lotions, and various medicines, and capsules. So it meant if someone got hurt or sick…they were pretty much stuck unless there were supplies left over from the warmer seasons.
Kade honestly couldn’t tell one medication from another, but this was Emma's profession, and he trusted her judgement. If anyone knew how to handle a medical situation, it was her. "Yeah, whatever you think is best," he agreed, watching as she turned to her supplies. It didn’t HURT per se, but how dry it was getting was a bit distracting, and it was hard to hold things, which wouldn't be helpful if there was a battle at some point for the slim amount of usable resources out there. "Yeah, I was up pretty early, ate before most folks were awake. If you’re not adverse to the company, I wouldn’t argue about having some tea with you before Valerie gives out the day's orders. Nice to warm up in weather like this."
