Agreed.
Ontop of that, if you don't want to be friends with the person due to them supporting a certain creator, then... Don't be friends with them.
No matter who you are,
what you look like, or where you're from...
You deserve love & acceptance
just like anyone else!

You can always block people you do not want to interact with. I also don't see why somebody being in a fandom would dictate what they are trying to speak with you about. If somebody tries to talk to you about a fandom, just tell them you're not interested in talking about that, but it seems unfair to ignore an entire group of people based on their interests.

it can dictate so many things. it shows that they support the creator, which in most cases arent good people. why would you want to be friends with someone who supports someone who clearly makes the world a worse place?

Heavily have to agree with jay here. Not everything needs to be a moral debate based on supporting a video game, TV show, etc. You can choose not to spend money or consume somebody's content, but 9/10 times, there is no malice behind the person supporting somebody you don't.

I also didn't say you needed to be friends with them or even talk to them, but to blacklist an entire group of people is petty imo. In general, the fandoms I see that are targets of DNI do not have controversial creators. You'll meet a lot of people in this world who you won't agree with, but that doesn't mean you write off an entire group of people. Period.

Making the “world a worse place” is such a gray term I honestly, genuinely can’t understand how you think it makes sense? /nm

Like for some people that might be supporting a fandom that has triggering topics (which would be covered by CS rules), or it means you have a personal opinion that differs from either the content or the creators involved, which would make that just your opinion.

Meaning same case as everyone has been saying: Block them if they bother you. Report them if they’re breaking rules. And overall: Don’t put out topics that trigger you in a nice, easy to read list for anyone to weaponize against you!

And to add on to this topic, I have indeed felt the backlash of having a DNI with a lot of my triggers all nice and easy to read on it. It wasn’t pretty and I would not recommend it for people who can’t handle someone in another fandom.

{hard disagree. Generally people can separate content from creator, or, more likely, they have no idea they enjoy something created by a bad person. Also I've been on the receiving end of this mindset and 90% of the time the "bad person" is supposedly so terrible because of years old social media posts that even they no longer agree with. More importantly, again, if someone enjoys something you don't like, block them.}

Hugely agree with your first statement here. Personally, with things like tv shows and movies and most video games, it is very rare that I look into the background and personal beliefs of the creators. If there is something I'm interested in and there is some bad thing the creator of it did, I probably don't know about it because I'm just enjoying the content. Also, there's a point where the art becomes separate from the artist, because the artist/creator decided to share it with the general population. This means it is no longer just "theirs," and a cool game or show shouldn't necessarily be despised just because of something the creator did. You can love the art without loving the artist.

This is an extremely ignorant thing to say. Not everyone is always aware of the wrongdoings of the creator of content they enjoy. Nor does it mean they support the person who created it. Even if someone says “I liked this game” they may not have even bought it. Could have pirated it or even watched a youtube video playthrough. What, are you going to tell a kid on the internet who has no idea the content they enjoy was made by a bad person that they are an awful person for enjoying something? Not even children this concerns either, some people don’t engage in discourse or fandoms so they’d have no way of even knowing to begin with unless they went out of their way to find that information out, which most people are not going to do. We don’t need to adopt the mindset that all content must have been made by a perfect person in order to enjoy it, especially because none of us are perfect people either. It’s hypocritical, even.

You make a strong point here. For example, would you put harry potter fans on the DNI just because JK RRowling made transphobic remarks? I wouldn't because I know (also being a Harry Potter fan) that most of her fans are gutted by her comments and disagree with her on a fundamental level but can still appreciate the Harry Potter series and the joy it brings to people

I'd argue that there's no such thing as a creator who's completely unproblematic (I bet you could probably dig up dirt on just about anyone if you tried), at which point you might as well say "dni if you like things", and this doesn't even get into how many creators have been smeared with false information that gets them added to a bunch of DNI's unfairly. Take, for example, Steven Universe's creator, Rebecca Sugar: SU is on so many DNI's because a few people who didn't like the show's ending convinced a bunch of others that, despite literally being Jewish, Sugar was somehow a fascist sympathizer. Not only is it ridiculous, having it on a bunch of DNI's has another side effect of perpetuating the lie.

I fully support the DNI ban.

Exactly! See, I'm a huge HP fan, and went on for years without realizing there was controversy around Rowling. Still, I decided that Harry Potter had become bigger than Rowling, and meant so much to so many people, and something she said doesn't mean that you can't enjoy what she made. Also, I think sometimes people forget that you can enjoy something without being a part of the fandom. Some fandoms get a bad rep, but not every fan takes part in the actual fandom. They just enjoy the book/game/show.

I am also going to have to disagree with this. Take, for example, the Harry Potter fandom. The creator isn’t seen as a good person, yet so many fans have effectively separated her from the fandom. If you don’t want a friend like that, then don’t become friends?? You have a block button you can use if it gets that bad. In other cases, the person in question legitimately had no idea that the creator is, in any way, problematic. Again, this is a kid-friendly site. You are going to find kids playing games, reading books, watching shows, etc with problematic creators.
