I’m currently looking into getting one and would love to see your’s and some info on how they are. I’m doing so much research at the moment on them. If they dock dive or are any sport similar, it’s a plus!

Hi hopes it's okay I recommend a completely different dog breed but I thought of it well reading your post and figured I might as well mention it.

The breed that your post really makes me think of is a Nova Scotia Duck Trolling Retriever. Some pros are they are high energy and very intelligent so they're great for training, I've heard of them being trained to be therapy dogs (not to sure about service dogs) and since they're bred for hunting ducks they tend to preform really well in dock diving. They're also know for being pretty play driven which can help with training and generally get along well with other dogs and are okay strangers. Overall I think their temperament and energy level is pretty close to what your looking for (and their around medium sized) however there is definitely some cons. First they're hunting/retrieving dogs so they have a strong prey drive and as said before very energetic, possibly more so than your looking for, but I do often see them as family and sport dogs. Also they are double coated and can be somewhat stubborn, but probably the biggest issue with them is their availability. Apparently they are considered a rare dog breed, where I live it's not to rare to see them around but i believe in other countries they can be quite difficult to get a hold of so you might actually not be able to find a breeder.

They not might not really match what your looking for but maybe looking at dogs that are similar to them can help you find the perfect breed for you if you decide to go with a different breed from the ones you suggested all together.

Welcome to the spoo family. I’ll be getting mine come winter 2022 or spring 2023. Definitely make sure your breeders dogs at least have Chic numbers with OFA and are using sort sort of puppy raising methods for picking out your puppy! I would also hope they are tilting their dogs in sports or confo. Are you planning to go with a solid or multicolor breeder for your prospect ?

(i want to preface this by saying i won't be getting a prospect ANY time soon, most likely 1-3 years, so i am soaking up breeds, what best suits me, temperament, trainers and training, budget, breeders (for questioning about the nitty gritty, they usually are very paitent!), and much more, so its not that i'm uneducated but i keep hearing more things about dogs that its taking lengthy amount of research time which i am okay with ofc.)

honestly, i'm more attracted to multicolor, but i hear that some colorations in certain breeds, are signs of health complications in the future, or affect genes, so depending on future research or any tips you guys have here, i may lean towards whichever benefits me and my dog best. i do not mind gender yet either but a lot of the breeders i've been asking questions, do not dock their dogs tails(personal preference) or do not allow later spay or neuter (no breeding, waiting until the dog is fully grown.), so i am facing a dilemma.

a bit of a backstory, i'm a bit anxious and i am autistic so i may sound to the point or blunt and i apologize beforehand.

i bought a bearded dragon 2 years ago. and while i had gone and done a lot of research, i realized that the bearded dragon wasn't for me, i didn't realize i would have a sensitivity to light. but i also learned the importance of getting to know what you want as if it were a close friend.. so i'm a bit paranoid that if i don't spend enough time around the animal, i will not know if i am compatible with a dog.
so long story short, i have been taking volunteering hours at shelters, being a pet sitter, and asking trainers/groomers to spend some 1 on 1 time with me. it has given me a new perspective and possibly stemmed my own career in veterinary care.

so yeah, i'm kinda big on dogs now.

I’ve known my breeder for 2 years so it’s fine not to be getting a puppy until later! So there are zero health concerns with color in poodles( unless someone is trying to breed extreme partis) I’m going with a multicolor for mine. If the breeder is doing all the right things it’s gonna be incredible hard to find one that doesn’t at least do long docks ( i think it’s a 3/4 dock. They keep most of their tail) for showing purposes if you’re in the US. Also any multicolored breeder you look into should be showing in at least UKC, since they can’t in AKC. I will also note most of the ethically ones require you wait until at least 18months to spay and neuter. If you have a facebook, you can join Uncensored Opinions of Poodle Breeders ( def make decisions yourself and not strictly on one buyers experience) and Ethical Breeders of Multi Colored Standard Poodles ( they require OFA and titled parents to post any upcoming litters or puppies. Will also state that any breeder you get into contact with should not be breeding doodles or merle( this is not an acceptable color for the breed club and never occurred naturally). I’ll list a few below i know that can be good resources to you even if you don’t end up getting a puppy from them. Also ask if they have produced any service animals too!

I’m actually in the veterinary field as a tech! I’ll be going for vet school within the new few years hopefully. So it’s definitely fulfilling at times but if it is something you want to get into, i suggest shadowing at an office if you haven’t already. there are some things not everyone can handle and at times it is an extremely thankless job thanks to some clients.

If you are in the US, some good multi breeders are Wanderlust, Cosmic Caliber, Crystal Creek, PK’s poodles, Rhapsody, Epic Quest, and High Desert.

Just wanted to say something about Tollers - because this can be a make or break. They don't really bark, but instead scream. I've known several people who this ruled the breed out for them. They're super cool dogs and I've loved the ones I work with, but the screaming can be a bit much!

Much love for Wanderlust and High Desert. I'd love to have a HD dog some day. Being a dog groomer has made me really love and appreciate spoos!

Beau is super handsome! Those spots on his nose might not fill in. Likely he had two spots of pigment deletion from the merle over those parts of his nose, so they're permanently pink! (:

@Tacticus; I’ve met two of Wander’s dogs, one currently has puppies with my breeder and the other he was watching for her and it was her brown mini. Love their temperaments and one of her lines “smiles” which they get from their sire I think. She’s a good ball and a sweetheart as was the mini.

Absolutely love the scream, honestly lol. I’m definitely going to be looking into the breed because I’m intrigued. :) I’ll let ya’ll know what breed I end up getting.

It's been quite awhile since I've posted on here !!
I've moved out of my previous living situation a few months ago, and have really been able to put more work into Hazel's physical health . She went from 45lbs and slow and lazy to a healthy 37 lbs and full of energy ! I have also been working on her reactivity and that has been making some strides .

I currently haven't been working on her commands or any obedience really, but I plan to work on getting her prepped to get a CGC and see if she enjoys FastCat .

Does anyone have experience with a dog with OCD ? I believe Hazel's is pretty severe and even with regular exercise and some behavior modification she get really over stimulated really quick, and nothing is better than chasing lights . To the point where if she gets the chance to chase them for too long she will down right refuse to go on a walk . We mitigate it by closing curtains when the sun shines through the windows at certain times of the day, and she isn't allowed on the porch unsupervised bc there's a wind chime that reflects some light outside .
I'm thinking it's about time I make a vet appointment and talk about medication ? My last vet wasn't very concerned with her ocd habits . How do you mitigate ocd behaviors, have you conceded medicating your dog, have you found that your dog is more comfortable after behavioral medication ( not looking for medical advice of course, just gauging personal experiences to make a choice when I talk to a vet )

A picture of Hazel from this morning for tax !

It's been a while since I posted too. Honestly thinking about dogs kind of makes me sad but I enjoy reading everyone's updates. Ruby has grown a new small lump on her abdomen at the same place the vets removed the last mammory tumor and I'm too scared to go back to the vets in case they confirm what I fear.
I genuinely don't think I can handle living without a dog but I'm not in a place to look for any of my dream-breeds, so I've been browsing rescue sites recently. It's so hard to find dogs that would work in my household, cat-friendly and confident around children 6+ that visit occasionally. There was a gorgeous boy in one rescue, solid white medium mutt, scruffy like Ruby. I loved him, but he was nervous of children so he wouldn't have been a good fit. I'll likely end up going on a waitlist for a suitable dog.

On a happier note, does anyone have any particular plans for their canine's Christmas?
I took Ruby to a Pets Corner last week to choose her presents. She got squeaky sprouts, a plush 'silent-squeaker', and a large plush football. I'm also planning on making a doggy Christmas pudding for our family gathering; we've got 7-8 dogs between us so it's going to be quite a task making one big enough for everyone.

Hi everyone! I have been diagnosed with PTSD and autism and I am looking into a Standard Poodle to become a psychiatric service dog. I don't know where to start though to find a breeder or trainer. It's a lot of work, but I am ready for it.
