Stormcloud and Raindrizzle walked side-by-side, carrying a large piece of scrap together. Twistedstar stood in the center of camp, directing where building materials should go. Rosewell and Valentine were in line in front of the pair, both holding a large quantity of feathers in their mouths. Through their muffled gossip Stormcloud could hear them making comments on how the Winter would go. ``Well last year was fairly mild, so this Winter should follow suite``, Valentine mewed through his mouthful of downy feathers. ``Oh please, that's ridiculous. You know I know some Two-Leg? From what I hear, this Winter will be atrocious, one of the worst this city has seen in years``, Rosewell claims. They reach Twistedstar in the line, and he points them to the Starling's den. Apparently it hasn't gotten enough insulation yet. Stormcloud and Raindrizzle set forward.

``Hmm, we should put some more scrap over by the Elder's den, it's been quite drafty there from what I've heard``, the leader says, looking at the den. The pair begin to pad over, both ready to place down the heavy and cold metal. ``I think everyone's heard that the Elder's den is drafty``, Stormcloud teases. ``Aw, don't be so mean! Elder's are usually pretty dramatic, and you know how Rosewell is already``, Raindrizzle pouts. They set the scrap down with a loud thud, and they begin trying to get it into place.

The whole clan was alive and busy trying to Winter-proof the whole Star Yard, trying to close any gaps and making sure to line each and every nest with a healthy amount moss, feathers, or whatever soft materials Two-Leg's left behind. The clan had a history of pretty harsh Winters, but Twistedstar was determined to keep the clan warm and well fed. Hunting patrols had been tripled since the first signs of frost appeared on the grass around camp. The earth was cool enough to keep it fresh for a while, and it never hurt to put on a little extra winter weight. He just hoped they had enough herbs to take care of any illness that may come to the camp.

bayguild make sure their craftsmen are busy weaving for bedding and blankets. scouts bring back any useful scrap of twoleg cloth they can find. as their camp is in a building, they don't need to do too much preparing, by they like to deck their nests out in warm materials.

Already generally having snow most of the year, the mountain cats are often already prepared for its harshness. Prey is always gathered as much as possible, and the fisher cats assist in making up for when there's a lack of prey in the mountains. Although it is often that snow will blow into the caves, in which stones will often be rolled in front of the entrances, to keep the snow at bay. Winter and lots of snow also makes it hard on the predators, coyotes and foxes are most commonly seen during times of deep winter. Cats are warned to take caution during these times, as predators will do anything for a meal at this time of season.

"Have you obtained enough Grey Herb?" A mellow voice came from the cavern, and before getting a response from anything, he continued. "How about Antidote Grass, or Hollyhock?"

"Hollyhock!?" Another cat spouted, a lot younger and more spry then the shorthaired white tom that was asking so many questions. It was a female with a soft lilac coat and golden eyes. She was poking her head toward a small entrance where the previous voice was coming from. "What would we need that for?"

The white faced cat responded with a sigh, shaking his head, the Angel Leaf turned to his work silently without much thought to replying to a younger face.

After a moment silence the angel yelled at the newbie. "Go help the others if you aren't to help me." He did so without looking away from the cupboards of herbs and spices.

“Come on, we have to keep gathering stuff, or Maplesong will give us that sad look again!” Alderpaw called out, her voice muffled through the mouthful of cattail heads she was carrying back to camp. Behind her, her siblings were dragging back various insulating materials; dried reeds and grasses, milkweed fluff, and shredded cedar bark from around the forest.

“Yeah, yeah; you got the really light mouthful,” Seapaw grumbled as they scrabbled backwards towards the great tree, dragging a half-shredded chunk of cedar bark.

“You’re the one who chose that one, you know! You could’ve taken grass like us,” Siskinpaw chuckled, then sprinted off as his sibling dropped the cedar to chase him. Behind them, Heartpaw sighed and tore off a bit of the shredded cedarbark and kept on walking to camp.

Finally, the quartet of apprentices arrived back at camp, a little winded but none the worse for wear. Around them, cats were milling about the great tree of Forest’s Heart, bringing in more dry and insulative nesting material for the oncoming cold season. As had been explained to the apprentices, this was a yearly tradition for the clan; as the wet weather arrived, everyone would gather plenty of nesting material, to pack against the inner walls of the tree, as well as to ensure everyone had a nice soft den when the winter winds howled off the ocean.

At least the hard work would pay off, when the cold weather came calling…!

Prompt: MistClan prepares them self by hunting more in the fall season. They also gather herbs more often to prepare for any sickness that may show up in the trying winter months. The kits are distracted by the elders while the warriors and medicine cats do what they need to to get ready for the cold times. This can involve drying herbs so that they stay well longer or going hunting more often.

leafbare isn’t much for fogclan. their walls and dens are already reinforced to keep warm and strong due to how their climate is. they may bury some extra prey when the ground freezes over or adding more missing and bramble to the walls. but, the main preparations are the ensure that feathers are saved for lining the moss on dens and to gather rocks in order to get water and sometimes fish. so, fogclan doesn’t do much in order to prepare for leafbare.

reinforce the camp! the clan don't tend to move as they find it much easier to sit in familiar territory and prepare for the colder conditions, rather than abandoning it and exploring land they're unfamiliar with. they usually make more shelters within campm to help keep cats out of the snow and as warm as they possibly can be.

How do your cats prepare for the season? Do they migrate? Or perhaps just reinforce the camp before it’s too cold out?


The Travelers don't have consistent seasons, so there's not much they can do to prepare. The best they're usually able to do is stick together and face things as they occur. When there is a warning before a severe weather event such as a snowstorm, they'll first organize into groups so everyone's looking out for each other, and no one accidentally gets left behind. Then they'll seek out shelter, or barring that, build one of their own.

Prompt: Despite living in a relatively cold climate, up in the mountains, where it snows heavily during the wintertime, Moonclan arguably has it easier than most clans during Leafbare. They have the firestarters to keep the caves warm, and the stoneshapers help keep it insulated and comfortable. Every affinity has their role during the colder moons, and Egg has even begun to start keeping a small flock of chickens as a food source, which they can keep safe even when prey is scarce. Things do get harder, of course- the heavy snowfall makes most things more difficult, and even for moontouched blizzards and ice can be dangerous. But everyone keeps working, keeping safe and warm within their cave system for the most part, and get through Leafbare as well as they can. [131 words]
