Short story;
So you don't get confused: A Village is a group of wild dogs that gather together in Den-huts. A clan is a pack of coyotes.
Born with wolves, nursed by coyotes, raised with dogs.
It was Bayan who herd the whaling. He had been seated by the fire, warming himself with the rest of the village, and thinking how two months ago how fortunate he had been to find and bring back the burning twig from the forest fire. It was early Fall but already the grass in the meadow was brown and frost covered. He jumped to his feet and spun around, peering into the night "Bayan what is-" his sister Sasha began, but before she could finish Bayan leaped away from the fire and sprinted away from the clearing. Toska jumped up and started to fallow him but Bayans mother stopped her "Wait." Toska sat down reluctantly.
The tiny pup was laying on the frozen ground. He had three beep wounds where the owls claws had griped him and he was cold and hungry. The bird had dropped him when it spotted another owl in its territory, luckily it was over the woods and the twigs and branched had broken his fall. He opened his tiny mouth any let out another cry, calling for his mother and her warm milk. Then he felt a wet tong (<<Did I spell that right?) stroke his fur to warm him. It wasn't his mother but the gentle touch was soothing. He let out a frightens squeal when his feet left the ground, but he curled his small body in the carrying position and held still.
When Bayan returned carrying the injured pup the rest of the dogs were there to meet him. "A puppy!" Sasha exclaimed when she saw the tiny scrap dangling from her brothers jaws "Not a puppy" he said around the squirming bundle "a pup." Sasha gasped "A wolf..." Bayan set the pup down by the fire "Mom he needs help!" He said. His mother came over and sniffed the pups scratches "Rayo!" she called "come and look at this!" Rayo had a reputation for being an experienced healer. The old gray and blue dog sniffed the pups scratches and then liked them, causing the pup to squeal in pain "They're to wide and shallow to get infected" he said "I'd say my main worry is that this puppy -excuse me- pup is to young to go without milk. I know an herb that can work as an alternative, but it would take me at least two days to find it." a hush fell over the fire clearing. Every dog knew that no female had unweaned puppies at this time of year and therefor were not producing milk. Bayan was sitting by his mother with his head hung as he always did when he was thinking Milk... unweaned... to young... to late... Bayan thought while Rayo cleaned the pups wound and soothed him to sleep to late... still young... need milk... to far, to far?... suddenly he raised his head and yelled "Ive got it!!" he Jumped to his feet waging his tail in excitement "Kay-ling O Ven!" Toska stared at him confused "Trailing O what?!" Bayan took a deep berth and tried to talk more calmly "Kay-ling O Ven, Tracker of elk." in answer to the blank stares he said "Keyos older sister! She had a late litter this season, only two puppy's. I'm sure she would be glad to take care of the pup." "It's to far." said Sasha "and besides, would a coyote agree to raise a wolf?" "The clan still owes me from saving them from the wildfire." "But how will you get him there? The clan lives at least three miles from here." "*____!" Bayan called to the long legged dog "Can you take him there?" "Yes I know the way. But you have to come to. Your the only one who knows the coyote language." And so they set of.
The tiny pup could not hear yet but his eyes were beginning to open. He felt as if he wee flying as the long legged wolf ran with him to someplace he didn't know. Everything was different here, the air was different, the trees were different, even the wolves smelled differently. Dangling from the wolves jaws he began to drift to sleep...
Kay-ling O Ven was not pleased "He's huge!" she protested in coyote. Indeed the newborn pup was almost as big as her three-week old's "It's only for a couple of days." her younger brother pleaded "And besides. We do still ow Bayan." Kayley sighed "Yes I suppose we do...". The pup let out a hungry cry and the mother coyote instinctively moved to sooth him. "Alright" she said "I'll take care of him." "Thank you!" Said Bayan, and then "Keyo, can I speak with you alone?" Keyo nodded and the two friends left the den.
