✪Welcome to Spyrans !✪

Odd little creatures, Spyrans appear to be some sort of cross between a dragonfly, a firefly, and a moth, though other traits appear to be present as well. The most we know for certain is that they're definitely, probably, most likely, insects of some kind.

Driven by their curious nature and need for exploration, they love to travel and see new places. It's unusual to find a Spyran that is content with staying in one place their whole life.

Their small bodies and glowing body parts mean they're excellent at exploring small cracks and crevices, where other creatures may not be able to reach. Consider taking one with you for your next adventure !

Spyrans are a non-official companion species to Chicoons ! they make excellent partners for Chicoons, but can be paired up with any other creature you can think of ! Many Spyrans also lives their lives out independently, it's up to you to choose who your Spyran is and what they do ^^

We are an open species with a few rules to create your very own Spyran. Be sure to read through this thread carefully before diving in and making your own !

✪ Personalities ✪

Spyrans are incredibly curious and clever, though how they put these traits to use varies between each Spyran ! Some are tricksters with wonderful senses of humor, others dedicate themselves to learning as much as they can about the world around them. Even the most shy and anxious Spyran will venture out of their comfort zone to learn about or investigate something new.

Their clever nature means it's incredibly difficult to trap or capture a Spyran, they'll figure a way out of any cage or enclosure you put them in ! A Spyran is a companion by choice, and is absolutely NEVER a pet.

✪ Language ✪

Spyrans communicate mainly through body language, and reserve any beeps or squeaks to occasions where they can't see who they're communicating with. Outside of their own species, Spyrans tend to vocalize a lot more to communicate feelings/emotions. They are no real "words" in their native form of communication, and, because of physical differences, it's often incredibly hard or even impossible for a non-Spyran to learn how to communicate in the same way.

Thankfully, because of their clever nature, Spyrans are great at learning other languages ! Their vocal chords do not allow them to speak said languages, but they're more than capable of learning to understand/read/write any different language they come across, so long as they have the patience.

It's rare for a Spyran to communicate purely through writing, as although one cannot communicate to a Spyran with body language, it's rather easy to learn what they're communicating to you. A Spyran would much rather use that method than writing things down constantly.

✪ Habitats ✪

Spyrans will travel anywhere and everywhere in the search for a good adventure, but it's more common to find them in warmer habitats as they can't lay their eggs in extreme cold.

Favorite places to lay eggs include: Swamps, Forests, Fields, or potentially inside a companion's house.

✪ Anatomy ✪

Spyrans are invertebrate "insects" with 6 legs, 4 eyes, 4 wings, and 2 feelers near the front of their snout. They are generally 8in long, never smaller than 6in, and never bigger than 12in.

Their bodies are divided into three sections, head, body, and tail. Classically referred to as head, thorax, and abdomen. Either sets of words are acceptable to use.

Their legs are decided into 5 sections, the divide in between sections acts as a joint. Their front two pairs of legs bend much like a foreleg would, and the last two bend much like a hindleg.

They have two fuzzy antennae on top of their heads that are used to detect pheromones, keep them oriented in flight, and navigate small spaces, their feelers are used to smell.

The last section of their abdomen can glow, and is used for many different purposes. Main uses include: Attracting a mate, communication, and lighting up dark places.

✪ Chicoons ✪

Chicoons and Spyrans get along well because of their shared curious nature. They make great exploration buddies as Spyrans can fit into smaller spaces than Chicoons, and potentially help get them out of trouble if needed.

Their communication styles also match up well, making it easy for a Spyran or Chicoon to learn how to properly communicate with each other, despite physical differences.

Though this is an open species, we still have rules to keep everyone happy and safe !
Please take the time to read through these to avoid any issues in the future ^^
If you make any Spyrans or participate in community events, you agree to the following;

✪ Anyone is allowed to make and sell Spyrans, regardless of if they're staff or not

- MYOs must be approved by a mod
- All MYOs and adopts must have ONLY traits listed, and not contain any banned traits
- If a Spyran design breaks these rules, they will not be considered a Spyran and cannot be used in community events
- All non-staff made Spyrans are non-pedigree, buy/trade at your own risk
- Traits MUST be clearly listed under any Spyran adopts

✪ Spyrans can NOT be heavily based on any pre-existing character

- This includes characters from tv shows, video games, books, ect
- Being inspired by a character is very allowed
- Feel free to DM staff to check over your design if you're unsure if it's too heavily inspired

✪ Spyrans can be traded/gifted/sold

- If a Spyran is obtained for free, you cannot sell them for any type of currency
- You can trade offsite and between species if you desire
- Spyrans should NOT be traded/gifted/sold to users who have been banned from the species
- If a user has been blocked by an artist, none of said artists designs should be traded/gifted/sold to the blocked user

✪ Be respectful and polite to other users

- If you see someone breaking rules, please report it to staff instead of confronting them
- Guilt tripping will not be tolerated
- Respect the individual rules any adopt creator assigns to their own designs

✪ Spyrans may not be bred outside of the species, or with trait/rule breaking "Spyrans"

- If you have doubts about your own or another person's Spyran, ask a staff member to double check and make sure they're legal !
- Spyrans can be bred with any other Spyran regardless of gender
- You must have permission from both Spyran owners in order to breed them

✪ You may NOT use the Spyran species for major commercial purposes

- Video games, movies, ect... are not allowed
- Adopts and other types of sales are allowed !

✪ Pedigree Spyrans may have their designs tweaked/altered (WITHOUT adding traits) unless the artist states otherwise

- All artists [including non-official adopt makers] may set their own rules about this
- Traits may NOT be added without special permission from the Owner as well as the original artist
- No "Items" will ever be required to edit a Spyran

✪ Spyrans don't have any sort of offical warning system, and all rule breaks will be judged on a case-by-case basis depending on what rule is broken, and the severity of it.
Punishments may include:

- Revoking adopt-making privileges
- Revoking MYO privileges
- Complete banning from the species

Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse, they're incredibly easy to find, and not reading them is your own fault.

A Spyran is as rare as it's rarest trait, so even if your Spyran has only 1 uncommon trait, it's considered an uncommon Spyran !
Traits as well as rarity should be clearly written out for any MYOs/customs/adopts

What does "pedigree" mean for Spyrans ?

"Pedigree" here means that a Spyran was made by a member of staff and are thus 100% legal, meaning you can breed/buy/trade without any concern ! They aren't any more valuable than any other Spyran

MYOs must be approved by staff, so they're most likely also legal, but it is entirely possible someone making an MYO off-oekaki could slip past us and end up with an illegal "Spyran"

This also means that any Spyran you see with "special" traits MUST be pedigree. If someone claims to have a special MYO Spyran, it's not legit

We always encourage you to ask for proof of pedigree status/staff approval before buying/trading/breeding ^^

Are there any limits to how many Spyrans i can make ?

Yes ! You may only make 2 rare Spyrans a month

Other than that, you're free to make as many common/uncommon Spyrans as you'd like !
