The crow cackled, a harsh, guttural caw, clawing from its throat.
And a crow’s song was far from a melody. A mockery. It was far from the soft, lilting chime woven by their fellow songbirds ━ songbirds robed in all shades of colors from the faintest pinks to the regal azures, who spun music that wandered in the breeze.
Yet… even the ugliest dark taunting creatures could be admired. Beneath those mangled claws and that permanently disheveled bunch of feathers was an intelligent soul. A soul who saw all and watched all. And adapted.
Oakspeck eyed the pesky crow, perched atop of a battered branch. He didn’t miss those sharp talons… talons tapping slowly against the branch in an off-kilter rhythm. Shaking his head, he turned aside with a huff. He wouldn’t let that bird get the better of him.
Now what was it Cloudpelt had said?
Right. He’d 'play' in the meadow… and perhaps find something useful along the way. While keeping an eye on that crow.
His paws wandered the field, soaking in the soft greenery bathed in the warm sun. It was almost ironic… to think that a
skirmish had unleashed merely seconds ago. A dangerous skirmish. One that tainted the grass with streaks of crimson.
But everything moved on. It flowed like the seas, like the waves of grass, like the clouds strewn in the skies, undulating, to the anthem of nature’s call. It forgave, forgot… and flourished.
A tiny smile tugged at his muzzle. Just like the little gold flower and─ His brow creased. A pair of unfamiliar blossoms twined around the gold one ─ one bronze and another silver, each illuminating a soft sheen. They
moved, twirling around the gold one, until they were all... connected. In a little bundle.
(+1 tormentil, +1 common myo, +1 boon of fertility ─ an extra breeding slot, after the free monthly one is used!) The screech of the crow shattered the silence.
His shoulder tensed. The dark creature scrawled through the skies, feathers flapping like a whirlwind, graceless and with pride. Another screech and those mangled talons flicked, parting.
A few cold pieces of meat descended, haphazardly tossed along the field.
A gift, perhaps. Or a taunting barb from the crow.
(+1FP scraps, +1FP scraps)Gathering up the scraps, he risked a glance up. The bird had returned to its perch on the tree, those dark, unwavering eyes trained on him. Its beak parted as it emitted a softer caw. Knowing.
It was like... he was missing something. And the crow knew it.
But what─
A harsh hiss slithering in the breeze sent shivers down his spine. Another creature had joined this dance... and an unfriendly one indeed.
