when bacardi was a pup, his parents were cold and standoffish. it’s not like they meant to be, but when you have a pup in the middle of winter, you can’t be to hopeful about survival. so he was left by himself most days. at night there would be family cuddles, warmth being shared. but during the day when his parents were out working, he had only his imagination to keep him company.

walking the snowy pathways around the camp, bacardi would look for small trinkets, things to make his parents proud. weird looking rocks, greenery, berries, anything unusual he would collect. one time as he was walking, a nut fell from the tree above him. he looked up, offended in the way a puppy could be, and huffed in annoyance. a red and grey squirrel sat on one of the limbs, another nut in hand ready to be dropped. once it saw it was spotted, it scurried down the tree and threw the nut at bacardi.

bacardi squawked and gave chase, a small smile growing on his face. he gained speed and got closer to the squirrel, ready to pounce. but the red critter dived into the roots of a snow covered tree right on time. he didn’t let that stop him and started digging. snow and dirt sprayed everywhere. but it was to no avail, the critter was gone. that was, until he looked behind him. the squirrel had another nut in hand and seemed to be smiling. bacardi giggled, as the chase began again.

months later, and the squirrel still stayed with bacardi. to match his name, he dubbed thee squirrel cruzan. their friendship was strong and whenever either of them were down, the other would be there to cheer them up. cruzan did have to hide from the other dogs, in case any of their prey drive decided to act up and a not so friendly chase began.

Monty's companion is a White-breasted nuthatch, he has always been a fan of birds, he just loved how freely they could fly away yet they remain loyal to their birthplace for the most of the species! He found this Nuthatch injured after falling from its nest, he watched the poor baby struggle for days, giving food and water to them and waiting for its mother to came get them, yet that time never came, after 2 days of waiting Monty took the little bird to his owner, and the both of them raised him into adulthood, the little bird was eternally thankfully of Monty, and chooses to never leave his side, often found sitting on the top of his head, snuggled against one of his ears.

Autumn's companion is a snowshoe hare! When Autumn was just a few months old she stumbled upon a young hare hiding in a snowbank. Instead of freezing or fleeing, the little hare hopped towards Autumn and gave a few little sniffs. Autumn thought the little nose twitches were the best thing she'd ever seen! Every day since they met, Autumn goes to meet this little hare and they go for walks with Autumn guarding the curious little hare from the other dogs.
